What fascinates you most about Spuffy?

Notice I didn't ask what you like most about Spuffy, but what fascinates you about it. What's so intriguing about them?

For me, the idea that they were once mortal enemies who hated each other and wanted each other dead (but were attracted to each other without realizing it), then they became friends, and then feelings started to emerge and they started having sex, and ended up with deep care and feelings for each other, to the point where they're the most important people to each other.
I look at them in the begining, even back in season 2, and I look at each step, at each season, and what they have become to each other. The thought of mortal enemies becoming this close, is the most facinating thing to me in Spuffy.

It fascinates me that no matter how many times Buffy puts Spike down, he never stops trying. No matter how much of a bitca she's being, he's always there for her. The thought of someone like Spike, who could get pretty much any woman he wanted, was that dedicated to Buffy fascinates me.

I feel exactly the same. For me, it's the ever-changing nature of their relationship that continues to fascinate me. They've come so far, yet still have SO much more to explore. Spike and Buffy have been everything to one another; enemies, allies, lovers and finally friends. They've come full-circle. They defy all conventions, and the non-traditional gender roles they take in their relation with one another is really unique.

Plus, you know, they're really hot together.

For one it's the "Spike never gave up" thing and on the other hand I like their love-hate relationship. It was so interesting to see and to guess when Buffy will listen to her feelings for Spike and when not. The relationship was so unpredictable.

Oh, you just made me see another difference between Spuffy and Bangel and why Spuffy is much more interesting:
Buffy and Angel are very predictibale, there are no surprises there. All these years it's exactly the same thing, the same story hasn't changed. The doomed love story, and the routine keeps repeating itself. The only change that happened with them is them breaking up and him leaving town. Their status almost never changes. There was just them as lovers and then not together anymore (including the phase when he was evil and then he turned good again and the same story again where they're together, and then the seperation again) but still having feelings for each other. From season 1 to season 7, nothing's changed in their story direction, nothing's happened that's really new.
With Buffy and Spike, like it was said, they had so many statuses: enemies, allies, lovers, friends. He died, he was in Los Angeles, he came back. And it almost hasn't repeated itself, there was always something new. They had so many ups and downs and the story went to so many directions, and it's still going. Nothing predictibale in their journey.

When I first started shipping Spuffy, it was because of Spike. After S5, I shipped it more because of the two of them together. But when I came to S6, I found myself wondering why I shipped Spuffy, because I'd never seen such a twisted, complex, dark relationship before. Spike is delusional and Buffy dismissive, and why do they keep having sex if she's disgusted by him? was basically my train of thought (yeah, yeah, I was pretty innocent). But that's what intrigued me, kept me wondering what the hell was going on and why I was so drawn in by it. So that was what fascinated me about Spuffy.

But if we're talking about now, I can only cite what I also love about Spuffy. The journey. Basically the OP's post.

I think the word "journey" to describe Spuffy, is the universal word that all Spuffies use. I'm not sure where it started, but I noticed that all Spuffies agree on that, that it's the way to describe this relationship. I love it, it's perfect!

Also, it's how their relationship with each other, whether as enemies or lovers, has changed both of them. They grow with the relationship and evolve separately and alongside each other. It is how amazing Spike's devotion and capacity for love are. He's like a force of nature, and Buffy can be, but after Angel really tries so hard to keep herself walled up. I love how there are so many ways in which they are opposites yet alike. I don't know...I guess it's 'cause together they have a bit of everything: fire/passion, loyalty, friendship, respect, trust...it fascinates me how Buffy could go so long in denial of her feelings🙂

Honestly, it's mostly from Spike's side for me. The way that he changes over the course of the story because of his love for Buffy. How he sticks around no matter what Buffy says or does to him. It's fascinating. 😉

It really fascinates me how Spike, William The Bloody, a soulless vampire, was able to have feelings for Buffy like a human could, and how he was willing to change and be the man she wanted to make her happy. Heck, he even got his soul back for her (which I'm sorry but Angelus never would have done. 😉 )
