What do you guys think of what General Voll said in issue 4, about how when they destroy all the demons, the demon in the Slayer will just turn on everyone, because of it's need to Slay?

It's interesting, cuz I couldn't see Buffy suddenly killing Humans to get her fix, if she won out against the demons. But he was right about what he said that there is something in her that says Slay.

Think back to the start of Season 5, where Buffy wasn't training with a watcher. And she suddenly started developing a urge to go out and hunt in the middle of the night.

Or Dana, the insane slayer. Obviously she was seriously messed up, and not totally there. But she lost the plot and started taking out everyone, without distinguishing between good and evil. Is it possible that the demon in her had something to do with that?

Yeah it's very much true that there is something inside a slayer that says "slay," and many things can trigger that. Like Buffy going out every night "hunting," or all the times Buffy got upset she wanted to kill something or even Faith

I think the slayer in Dana only helped with the killing (her instincts etc).. otherwise she was just a crazy girl.

And uh I don't think Buffy "wanted" to kill Faith, not like Faith wanted to kill other people.

I don't see how having slayer abilities will automatically make you slay something... it is about choice. Use your power for good, or selfishly like Faith used to, and if the demons are gone why can't they just use all that energy in other things .. take up some kickboxing 😛

Honestly, I don't see the problem with empowering women into slayers.. seems to me it wouldn't be an issue if men like the General were stronger physically. In this world men have more strength (9 times less pain tolerance tho 😉) and we just have to trust that they wont use that strength for evil purposes.. Hmm maybe we should declare war against all men 😛 lol. Owh and maybe gorillas, they're pretty strong.

Voll didnt say the slayers will turn on everyone. He said the world still wont be the way they want it. That doesnt mean they'll turn on everyone. i doubt they'd just go around killing innocent people. Maybe bad guys but not innocent people.

Or no no no I wasn't saying the "slay" made Buffy want to kill Faith, I was just saying look at Faith and you could obviously see that the demon in her was in constant "slay" mentality

oh ok
I could see it happening. Think about it, what is the difference between Good and Evil? In a lot of case's it is the person's point of view. Sure we all know killing some one is bad. But what if it was a bad person?? Like killing an assassin? Is that bad? Well your stopping a person that kill's people (some innocent) right?? That's how some one would justify it. Think about it: Say the slayer's win out, they stop ALL demons on earth. Kill them all except the good ones, or even them. (They are demons after all). Then what, they retire, take up knitting??? Maybe form there own WNBA??? Come on, there are other "Evils" out there. Drug dealers, pedophiles, basically bad people. Maybe family member of a slayer gets killed, by accident. The slayer stops the guy turns him/her in or kills them, whole eye for an eye thing. That's give's them the Idea. Lets stop ALLLL the bad people. Then it starts. They stop drug dealers & smugglers. People starting wars & running drugs or guns. People trying to over throw a government (any 3rd world or other). Things like that. Who knows. Maybe Dawn is at collage, some guy slip's her a rufy (spl) date rapes her. That sends Buffy into a crazy spiral of destruction looking for the person. Maybe Dawn kill's herself because of it or something. Other slayers get in on the act to help. She has to of made at least some friends of the other slayers.

You just NEVER know…..

I don't see Buffy really just outright killing a human being no matter what that person may or may not have done. I think Joss kind of established throughout the entire run of Buffy that she doesn't have it in her, which is why she was labelled a true hero. Of course I could be wrong.

Well duh 😛 Of course some slayers are going to stray... just like some people stray in real life. I guess General Voll is not willing to give them a choice and free will. They'd rather have the power, like men in power have had traditionally (not just power over women).

Oh wow, I finally had the moment of clarity about what the whole slayer power thing means... thanks 😉

What Voll is saying is that even when the Slayer accomplishes her apparent goal - the destruction and/or banishment of all demons in the Earthly realm - that still won't be enough. The Slayer - who traditionally does not (and some might say SHOULD not) has no bearing on the way the human world is run - will set her sights on other percieved (non-demonic) world problems, which may therefore lead her into direct opposition with entities like the United States government. I can easily imagine that Voll assumes that that would manifest itself in the form of violence (thus fulfilling his view of the Slayers as a terror cell), but I don't think he nor Joss mean anything else by it.

I thought that had to do with the spell that resulted in the Scoobies' dream encounter with the Primitive.

I assumed it was her physical and psychological abuse coupled with the sudden shock of Slayer activation (and the legacy dreams that accompany it).

I don't think that Faith ever really wanted to kill people either. She had a taste for violence that spilled over into the human world and she became addicted to it like a drug. I suppose she wanted violence and death in the same way a junkie looks for his next fix.

I think maybe I just had an epiphany. I think maybe the question of General Voll's concerns about slayers becoming a force working against humanity, after the demons were defeated have been answered in the Buffyverse. This providing you consider Fray a part of the Buffyverse, which I personally do.

In Fray the demons have been banished from earthly reality. The slayers simply vanish into the population. Nobody seems to even know there ever was such a thing.

well yep.
Buffy has that "IT's WRONG" mentality. Which is good. I don't think she would ever kill beyond demons. I do feel tho that it's in her to slay, but of course, she is the slayer. Of course it would be. Sometimes I think she slayed to 'feel.'
If you remember in season 5 when Buffy and Riley were in bed together. She left him and slayed in the middle of the night and then crawled back into bed with him. I think she wasn't getting what she needed out of Riley, and slaying helped fill that void. And I think that's how it will be for her, always. It's a part of her, it's in her blood and she will always have it. But would she use it if all the demons were gone? No, but she might enjoy breaking up fights between humans once in a while, throwing a punch or two at a bad guy. But then again...if all the demons were gone, would that include inner demons? Prob not but hey, a girl can wonder.

I feel a bit opiniony in this thread but anyway 😉, My impression was that Buffy had been hunting every night since the first slayer tried to kill them in Restless. She was enjoying being a slayer and having that power, like she hadn't felt or understood before... hence leading to her need for knowledge about being a slayer with Giles again.

Jeez I'm such a geek now. Damn you Joss Whedon! 😛
