What Got You Hooked?

Innocence was the first episode i ever saw and i was(obviously) impressed but i was the next one i seen Harsh light of day that hooked me straight away, i just wanted to find out all the back stories of everyone. After that i just couldnt get enough of btvs.

The first time that I saw the tv show, a friend wanted me to tape the episode for him, because he was going to be out of town. That was "Once More With Feeling." The characters, the plot, the music impressed me (a couple of the actors could even sinf fairly well), but what got me the most was the connection and interaction between two particular characters: Buffy and the blond guy who I at first thought was the character "Pike" from the movie. That's what hooked me, and what keeps me interested in the show. (Imagine my surprise when, a few weeks later, I saw "Welcome To The Hellmouth," and there was some clown in a velvet jacket stalking Spike's girl!)

some clown in a velvent jacket... lol. even the Bangelists have to agree, that sums up WttH Angel wuite well. :D
i think it had something to do with the fact that the first episode i saw was the one where Buffy hit Riley in the head with a book. How can you not love that? Ofcourse Spike's funnyness, and Dawn's perfectness might have had something to do with it

Probably the freakishly amazing writing and the easily likable characters.

Season 2 is probably what got be hooked, Season 1 doesn't have much to write home about.

I was only 'ickle, and I rented a video of Welcome to the Hellmouth from Blockbusters because I thought it had a cool name, plus I've always loved horror, and after watching it I really liked the idea of playing slayer. The day I watched it my Dad was knocking down the old garden fence, so after I was done watching it I went outside, found a particularly sharp piece of wood and went jumping around the garden pretending to stake vampires. Thinking back that's probably why all the kids who hung out at the park opposite my house were always scared of talking to me, but oh well, I had fun.

I think I saw random Season 2 episodes before I knew what it was and then I started watching Season 4 and the story drew me in and I wanted to know what happened before. I made my mom watch it too (she got hooked!) and had someone to fund the DVD box sets before I could afford them as a youngin, lol.

I think it was an amalgamation of every part of the show that got me hooked; characters, storyline, humor, writing, etc~

I watched from the beginning but I think 3 things really hooked me:
1. Spike's arrival
2. Xander and Cordelia's secret romance
3. The internet - what fun spoiler hunting was back in the day when i didn't know what was going to happen next...

With Angel I didn't watch it when if first was on television, i caught a few episodes here and there but I never knew what was going on. I bought season five on DVD (because of Spike) and loved it but still had no idea of what was going on so wnet and bought the first four seasons and well, loved it, naturally.

The humour of the writing plus the music of the show was great, i discovered new music thanks to this show.

In the beginning it was the Buffy/Xander/Willow love triangle and the Buffy/Angel drama... I was all about the relationships. And then I found that I could relate to a lot of the emotions of the characters' storylines and by the beginning of Season 2, I was in love with the show and I've been an addict ever since. 🙂

When I first heard of Buffy, I was completely thrown off by the name. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", it sounded a little too cheesy for me, not to mention silly. However, when I finally watched it [because my mom was] I became HOOKED in every sense of the word. I don't know what it was about the show, but I always found/find myself returning to it; I came in right during the Buffy/Angel love drama. Nonetheless, I've been a Buffy fan since I was four and I haven't changed.

Since you were 4? did ya mean fourteen cause Buffy hasn't been on for 16 years just about 12. Second generation Buffy fan karma though :)
Some friends of mine, when I was around 13-14, begged me to watch this show I basically loathed (because I didn't know it enough, or at all).
I watched S1 to make them happy, and found it a bit entertaining so I watched S2 to make them more happy. I can remember quite clearly that when things got more complicated, what with Kendra and Angelus, I found myself thinking : "Okay, that's it. This show has passed the point where it has become great." And then "Becoming" came along and I used to drive all the way through town on my lil'bike to borrow the DVDs from my friends.

I think there is a point when a show comes to ordinary/good/okay/entertaining to great. By example, "Grey's Anatomy" was really, really good from day one (today not so much, though) but at the middle of S2 with the bomb episode, you're like "Oooookay. Now that's gre(y)at."
For "Skins", you had to wait till the second episode only. And "Pushing Daisies" ? Hm. The 15th minute ?
In my opinion, "Angel" became great only by the end of S2/beginning of S3.
Okay I'm so going off topic here.

No BillyIdolWannaB!!! Every season was great! S2,4,5 are the best though!!
(In 6th grade-2004) I was whining about not having anything to watch in the morning, so my friend recommended Buffy. (I'm a Buffy late-bloomer) I watched it and instantly... started liking it. It wasn't until Go Fish, I think, that I REALLY got hooked. I know, one of the worst episodes got me hooked, right? It was just that after the depressing-not-knowing-what's-going-on-feeling of the past episodes, watching a (fairly good) stand-alone episode (which is near-fantastic in comparison to TV in general) was just like, "WOAH! Whoever, made this is a genius!" And then I got S6, S1. Took about a 2 year hiatus (idk, it had something to do with Harry Potter probably). Then just last year, I watched them both over again, and bought every season in order.

Now with ATS I saw that it was on at 5 & 6 every morning on TNT, and the new season (S4) was starting, so I decided to record some. Needless to say, I fell in love, due mostly in part to the characters of Wesley and Fred. However, now that I've seen every season, I feel really terrible about ruining it for myself. S3 was SUCH a big turning point, and i completely knew what was gonna happen once I bought it.

Phew! Is that enough writing for one day?

EDIT: Oh, I already posted in this thread... Well think of this as adding-on. 🙂

I'm a buffy late bloomer too, never even watched it when it was on the air.
For me I think it was just the group of people. How they related, how they interacted, etc.
Didn't hurt that it had a supernatural origin...but the thing is it was 'real-life' stuff too that played a HUGE role in each and every season.

Also didn't hurt that many of the characters are super hot...lol

edit: I should note that I never watched it when it was on the air. Not sure why actually. I knew about it and watched an episode here and there, but never really got INTO it.

Funny that my ex boyfriend got me hooked a few years back. He had gone off to college his roomate had the collection. He started off watching because of SMG, then he just loved the whole show in general. We started watching it together, started with season 3 if I recall. The last season I watched was the fourth,; I went all out of order. And now in the past 4-5 years I have watched each season about 6 or 7 times, at LEAST!!! =P

What got you hooked on Buffy The Vampire Slayer & Angel the Series?

The first twenty minutes into Buffy I knew it'd be my favorite show forever. The wit, the emotional depth and the humor won me over instantly. It was intelligent, thoughtful, and had it's own unique mythology, it's own world, I could totally get lost in. I was soon attached to the characters, concerned about their fate, and couldn't wait until the next episode.

Angel took me longer to warm up too, only because it was so dark but I've learned to really appreciate it on the same level that I appreciate Buffy; as good, quality television.
