What Happened To Buffy's Dad?

he gets mentioned from time to time, like in season five (i dont know what episode, i just remember buffy folding towels) its after their mom died and they talk about if dawn may go to live with him if buffy cant take care of her, thats the last i think that they mention him, he was just kind of forgotten
 
Actually, saw him twice. He was in Nightmares and also a brief bit in When She Was Bad.

Then in season five, after Joyce died it was said that he was in Europe somewhere.
 
I'm going to get metaphorical, I think the reason that we barely see Mr. Summers is becasue the show is in a way a viewpoint of Buffy's mind. Mr. Summers appeared a few times because he was still in buffy's mind as her father, but still not fully there becasue he didn't live with her and wasn't around as much. Now as the show proggressed, she find a new father figure in Giles, hence Mr. Summers only being mentioned passsingly, he was more or less somewhere in the back of her head. So Mr. Summers probably did appear off scenes just the viewers didn't get to see it because in her mind, Giles was hers and Dawn's real father. Alot of this is backed by the episode normal again, her dad does appear in that episode I believe.

Does any of what I say make sense?
 
is anyone forgetting about S5 or something, when glory gets dawn, and buffy is cought in her own thoughts, when she was a little girl...Her dad is in there too...So he is seen a few times..But not much...

It's a female based show focusing on the strenghts in women isn't it? I thought I had read that Joss wanted that point to get across...so taking the father and the boyfriends away just gave them more real obsticles to face dealing with the negetive male aspects in the real world. Or not...maybe the storyline would have been too damn hard with him there hovering over his daughter all the time...lol...
 
Yes, he appeared in "Normal Again", as well as the second-last ep of S5 (I think it's "The Weight of the World"). He was also in "Prophecy Girl", and is mentioned as being in Spain with some woman after Joyce dies.
 
Well I didn't see enough of him to think he was strange.
My, question is this, because he was in Europe when the
Monks made the memories and Put Dawn with Buffy, would
he have all those memories of Dawn too? Did dawn just appear
and everyone on earth she may have Interacted with just, suddenly have a perfect memory of her?
Would Mr. Summers?
 
I think he must have memories bout her...he might come to Sunnydale and then what??His mind had to be altered...
 
It makes sense to me, It seems though they could have played a bit on that, say if Buffy went to contact her father and, he thought she was crazy because, "Buffy you're my only daughter, what are you talking about". 🙂
 
He was also mentioned in Bargaining. They wanted Dawn to answer the phone instead of BuffyBot incase it was Mr Summers.
 
If anyone's interested, the last arc of the Buffy comic, called "A Stake To The Heart", deals with Buffy's parents' divorce. Dawn is in it as well, and there's a lot of interaction between Buffy and her dad. It sheds a little light on their relationship pre-Sunnydale.
