What Happened To Nancy Drew?

Okay, I never read any of the Nancy Drew mysteries when I was a kid, but I did read a few of the Hardy Boys books, which, I always thought, were the male equivalent. When I saw this new series, I decided to watch the opener just out of curiosity. THIS AIN'T THE OLD NANCY! The first scene is her in bed with her current boyfriend, and we later find out that her widower father has been having an affair with one of his coworkers. Not really all that unusual for a TV series these days, but my question is, why did they use the Nancy Drew franchise for what is obviously an adult series, when there are current fans of the book series who are going to be drawn in by the title?

Incidentally, it seems like a fairly interesting show so far, but it is definitely NOT what I would define as being aimed for the "Young Adult," or "Teen" market. Or am I just really too old to know what's going on in entertainment these days?
 
I abs going to watch it (I loved Nancy Drew as a kid), but apparently it only really takes the name and the concept.
It looks too Riverdale-y
 
Watched the pilot. Not as bad as the usual CW, but didn't continue to watch.
 
Given how Nancy Drew has been pulled into this century I can't wait for the Enid Blyton's tales of the Famous Five in the 1950's, to be renamed as The Famous Five Go Mad On Ice.

I'm so looking forward to the 2030's when you'll the shows like Sam and Dean on LSD.
 
I have enjoyed this series so far. It’s a few major steps away from source material but they’ve done a good job of recreating it. I don’t see how it will continue past this season as it currently is. And I do miss story-of-the-week shows. It’s heavily serialized with one overarching story. I think it would do better as a mystery of the week with the overarching story. But I like the actors and the writing so far!
