I'm gone for just a couple of decades, and they do THIS to the single most famous superhero and most recognizable superhero costume in the entire world.

Seriously, now, my question is, for those of you who are fans of the former "Man of Steel," what do you think of the new "Man of Energy" idea?
 
Dude.. you missed the part where he renounced his American citizenship. He is no longer a US citizen either.
 
More of a Marvel man myself, DC blows. Also, why does Superman need a belt when he's clearly wearing a one-piece outfit?

I read about the reboot briefly the other day, but where is the Man of Energy thing? I didn't read down the whole page, so maybe I missed it.

My cousin blogs about comics, but he hasn't commented on this yet & I don't see anything on his FB page either (he's busy writing his dissertation at the moment). No more "Man of Steel," because his powers are now totally changed. He doesn't fly anymore, he TELEPORTS to where he wants to go. Bullets don't bounce off of him, they pass through him harmlessly. He's basically been transformed into a living solar battery.

Isn't that what the blonde haired guy was in Supes3? no. it was nuclear battery.
I can just see it now...

Superman steps in front of a citizen about to be shot. The villain fores, the bullet passes through Superman and kills the citizen. Or Superman makes a miscalculation, teleports himself into a wall, and gets stuck there. Superman tries to stop a runaway train, and it passes right through him, just like the bullets.

Thank god we've got Captain Marvel to get the job done right.

Yeah I listened to my hubby rant about all of this... I can't believe the changes they've made, and it's sick and sad that after all these years, Superman as we know him is no more. 🙁
At least we have the memories!
 
Is there any chance that this DC reboot goes anywhere along the lines of Marvel's "Ultimates" universe....separate from the main comics?

Seriously? Superman is an american idol, a symbol of patriotism and the voice of a nation. They're really going to throw that all away? You can't change Superman. Its just wrong. He's the ultimate superhero in my eyes and will always be The Man of Steel to me.

People won't accept changing such well known superheroes. I'll protest if I have to!!! 🙂 Are people so uncreative these days they can't even come up with new ideas anymore?! Forget this!!!!!!

Yeah, I get that but it doesn't mean he cant be a US citizen anymore. He can still be a global ambassador and a symbol of what America stands for at the same time. Supes can do it all!! 🙂
 
I'm pretty sure that when the dust settles from DC's publicity stunt Superman will be back to the guy we know and love...they've done it so many times before (Doomsday anyone?...Jack Kirby's re-boot of the character where he pretty much lost all his powers...the John Byrne re-imagining etc.) Kal-El will be back to normal within the year 🙂

This is what I believe as well. It's pretty much like the wholw "Death Of Superman" arc a few years ago, as well as the more recent "Death Of Captain America." It stirs up a lot of controversy and attracts a lot of attention, but ultimately, the one undeniable fact remains. Superman is the first actual costumed superhero. He's been rescuing Lois Lane at a speed faster than a speeding bullet since 1936, and he's been doing it as the Man of Steel, NOT some glorified solar battery. I don't think that it's mere coincidence that this mess is taking place on the 75th anniversary of Superman's first appearance in "Action Comics." There's a little bird whispering "publicity stunt" in my ear, and I don't think that I'm the only one that it's singing to.

But, as I said before, there's always Captain Marvel to fall back onto, if worse comes to worst. I always liked the Big Red Cheese anyhow, even back in the day when he and Superman were owned by rival publishers. It would be ironic if, after all these years, after legal action caused the cessation of publication of C M's own magazine, that he winds up being the world's most powerful superhero this way.

Also seems more than coincidental that this is taking place just after the series finale of Smallville.

I think it's more to do with the law suit.. but it's not just Superman so, it's just another 52. If it was just Superman I could see motive, but the only motive is $$$ two moths worth of added sales and 50 weeks of humdrum then all back to normal.

Basically, the families of Seigel and Shuster, the creators of the Superman, will have total control of the character returned to them in 2013. Until then, I guess DC and Warner Brothers are gonna milk every nickel out of it that they can, and possibly destroy every vestige of the original character before they lose control.
