What do YOU think happens to us, our soul not our body, after we die? Do we come back in another body? Do we go to heaven/hell? Do we become ghosts?

Personally, I believe we disappear. Like when we sleep, we don't feel ourselves if you know what I mean. Death is like sleep, without dreams. That's my theory.

I'm an atheist, I don't believe in souls or an afterlife.. Nothing happens after we die, we are just bodies and we'll rot away..

I agree. We just go back into the ground, where we came from.

No idea, honestly. I can't really believe in a heaven or a hell, but at the same time I can't bring myself to believe that nothing happens at all. It's weird. When my time's up, I think I'll just go with the flow.

I think consciousness is independent of the body (it's just not an easy thing to achieve since we are so attached to ourselves!). Although my experience of this is limited, it does make me think that some aprés vie is possible.

I have some friends who introduced me to the idea that when you die you get what you believe in. I thought that made for an interesting conundrum!

part of me feels death is like sleep without dreams... but part of me has always kind of believed, when we die, a piece of our soul... a part of us goes to every one we loved.. Although I think that's probably just something I've told myself to make myself feel better about people dying.

I think you rot in a box or get set on fire and turned to ash. I'm an atheist incase that didn't give it away.

I don't know. And I have lately been seriously contemplating it...All I know is what I WANT to believe in. I WANT to believe in Heaven/Hell and God but I just feel like I need proof. I am not a practicing Christian and nobody in my family is...I sorta have my own view of Christianity and none of that hardcore "NOT GOING TO CHURCH IS A MORTAL SIN!!" stuff. Haha that's what my CCD teacher says

AND Fake Shemp I wish you would not refer to my and other peoples' beliefs as "made up hoo har" Be respectful. Especially when it comes to religion.

I'm not all that sure what would happen to us.

I'm sure once we die, we die, but our soul/essence goes somewhere, we just don't know it - we (our bodies) stay where we are in an endless black dream. Dead and done. Not knowing a thing, and since I'm someone who believes in reincarnation, I think while we rot away, our soul is reincarnated into somebody new, we just never know it. We remember nothing. The word "reincarnation" derives from Latin, literally meaning, "entering the flesh again". Some of it usually connotes reincarnation after death, as either human, animal, though emphasising the continuity of the soul, not the flesh.

I'm not all that sure on Heaven or Hell, though. As for ghosts, I think those who weren't able to be reincarnated were stuck here in the lower plane as an unliving, usually unseen form.

But that's just me, we're not all the same.

I always felt like it would be wasting time of my life contemplating about what's going to happens after death. I've pretty much decided that I don't know and since I'll be dead, I don't really care.

I'm Atheist, so I don't believe in heaven or hell, or reincarnation, really, but I do believe in ghosts, so I'm not really sure what happens after you die. It's not something I think about.

Someone asked me once, what I would I do if, when I died, I found out that God and heaven did exist. And I told him 'Salute God, turn on my heel, and saunter quite happily on down to hell.' I'm not going to live my life HOPING something like heaven is real, just so that I can guarantee I'll end up there. I'm not going to pretend something's real when I have no proof either way.

I'm firmly convinced (and in fact, couldn't live my life if I thought otherwise - I really wouldn't survive as an Atheist even for a day) that life energy/"the soul" cannot be destroyed. As for the question what exactly will happen when it dissipates out of this shell I call "my body", dunno. Reincarnation/"recycling", "heaven", or a Nirvana-like thoughtless one-ness with everything, basically I'm fine with either (still, my preference would be the latter, I don't see the need in having my personal mind endure after death).

The concept of a judging deity sending sinners to hell really makes no sense to me, though. If heaven does exists, I'm certain that Hitler and Stalin are there right alongside Jesus of Nazareth and Siddharta Gautama. 🙂 Basically, I see God as the all-encompassing energy of "All Is One"/"One Is All", so segregating the sheep from the goat seems like nonsense to me.

Don't worry, there will even be a place in Bangel Heaven for you too ;) mwahahahaha
matter can't be created or destroyed.......so if theres more than just your body...I would imagine it just changes form or energy......who really knows....nobody will ever have the answer cause you could only gain it through experience

I think there's a Heaven. But I don't think there's a hell. And, to be honest, I have no idea where I stand on the whole re-incarnation thing. I believe it can definitely happen, but I'm not at all certain under which circumstances.

I was raised Catholic, but I reject pretty much everything the church taught me except for the existence of God. As corny and Lifetime channel as this is going to sound, I know God exists. I couldn't explain it, or prove it, or do anything Francis Bacon or the scientific method would approve of, but I just sort of ... know.

random sidenote: Does anyone else have "Out of this World" by Bush in their head now? Just me?

I'm on the Heaven but no Hell thing too :)
I believe in Jesus heaven/hell I just don't think it is as simple as that alone. Lately I have really been thinking and wondering about this topic.
