What Holidays Do You Celebrate?

So with the holiday season all but here, I thought it would be neat to see just which kind of holidays everyone celebrates at this time of year.

Which do you celebrate and maybe tell us a bit about it 🙂


I'm a Christmas Celebrater, myself. We have a big feast (just my immediate family and I) on Christmas Eve and always open one gift from under the tree. Then Christmas Morning we wake up around eighnt in the morning and open gifts, sing christmas carols, etc.

And my dad always dresses as Santa for the kids next door, which I thought was kinda neat! Kind of brings Christmas to life for them.

Im also a christmas celebrator and a big one at that i love everything about it from the decorations right down to the chaos in shopping centers( ok that parts a lie i hate it) its pretty much the same celebration every year up early to open presents, church home for the big feast and then be glued to the sofa watching the box and some times we might head over the a relatives house but that doesnt happen as oftenly since the grandparents died

I'm a big time Christmas gal. It's my absolute favourite time of the year. Our celebrations in Ireland goes on a lot longer than most countries. Our official Christmas season doesn't end until the 6th of January and that's really when it stops feeling Christmassy too.

As for the Kean Christmas it usually goes a little something like this: On Christmas Eve my whole family will all meet a one of our favourite pubs ins town, that would be my immediate family, aunts, uncles, cousins the whole shebang. We will have a few merry drinks and then head home. Ususally neighbours and stuff will be in out for awhile during Christmas Eve, we watch the 9 'o clock news (where we see Santa leaving the North Pole) and usually try in be in bed before 12 ( even though we are all grown up now we still live the same traditions as when we were children). Christmas morning we get up (but not before 8 lol) and go down and open the presents (even still my Dad has to be the person to lead the way lol). We'll get ready, go see my uncle and then we all go to Mass. After that we go to all my uncle's houses and my Nana's to wish them a Happy Christmas and then go home for dinner. Huge feast and when crash on the couch for hours, until we are able to move again😀 Christmas night revolves around my entire family (agian) coming to my house and we have a big party, there's usually stories of my uncles growing up and then a big sing song. On St. Stephen's Day (the 26th of Dec) we usually all meet up again in the evening and do the same thing one more time😀

Ok I was excited about going home already but now I cannot wait😀

I have a Jewish mother and a Christian father, and, even though I was pretty much raised Jewish, we celebrate Christmas and Hannukah. We don't make a big deal out of either holiday, though...I haven't gotten a Hannukah present since I was 6 years old and on Christmas, we usually just open presents, then sit around and eat cookies all day. This year, we're probably gonna have an all-day Arrested Development marathon, since I got my parents hooked on it and watching it is one of the few things my family can do together without driving each other insane.

I celebrate Christmas, not me personally, but my family do. So, you know, I do too, as to not be anti-social. I could live without it really. I don't like receiving presents, it makes me suspicious.

None, this is a Christmas household but I'd be fine having no holidays this time of year, I mean come on a Pagan celebration hyjacked by Christians centuries ago and re-canonised to be Jesus' birthday in the middle of the 1800's that only took 150 years to be come the most crass commercialised part of the year ever? pass.

@Spuffyy: Which is apparently not the only crass thing at the moment, care to explain such negative karma for expressing an opinion on why I don't personally celebrate Christmas or do you just want to fling another insult at me without acting your age?

You're new around here so I'll let this one slip, but around here giving someone negative karma isn't the done thing, its very very rare that anyone here has ever recieved it and its usually something along the lines of having done something 'really' bad that would get a mod warning too.

To my knowledge, if spuffy lovers can give bangels negative karma just for fun for example, I see no reason why my disagreeing with your slightly brash opinion toward something that is NONE THE LESS supposed to be an enjoyable topic and time of year. If you want to debate about the true meaning of Christmas then it would make sense to start a debate thread, obviously saying something so negative so matter of factly is going to stir peoples' pots. Besides I find it hard to believe you didn't see it coming, surely you anticipated what my disagreement was about anyway.

That's was my point, actually.

Anyway I do celebrate Christmas and I think it's a beauiful holiday for a number of reasons. Hohoho :santa2:

I celebrated Diwali once with my Hindu friend, it was nice, there was lots of candles.

Christmas is The big deal in Ireland. Everywhere is decorated, music and lights everywhere. The whole of December is geared towards Christmas. Best time of the eyar by far.

Oh and Santa gets a bottle of Guinness and some biscuits (cookies) left out for him...plus a carrot for Rudolph😀

Only one bottle? that would have a dint in that big beer belly he has. I likes the Christmas now that all mah shopping is done.. still have stuff coming in though... now I have to get mah wrap one and mail the stuff out.

With my family lacking and real religious belief we celebrate Christmas (my Catholic beliefs are something I have developed all by myself).
With my family being Austrian (predominantly), we celebrate Christmas by giving and opening gifts on Christmas Eve after a huge family meal then phoning our family in the rest of the world to wish them a Merry Christmas.

Christmas Day, however I celebrate something new now. Its something new and probably sacriligious BUT I celebrate the brand new Doctor Who Special🙂

To prepare for this we spend ALL day at my grans house.
We arrive at 8:30 - 9am, when upon arrival my mother will begin to cook a full hearty English Breakfast.
This will be nice and we will then begin to the prep for our Christmas lunch.
Turkey and all the trimmings.
This will be served no later than 2pm OR 3:10 because we HAVE to watch the Queen - yes, I even still stand with hand on heart saluting that fine figurehead of a woman.

The we veg down nibbling on crap for about an hour. I like to go for a walk while they play the 'Some gives Christmas presents to a Hospital Ward' part of the day and get back in time for the Animation/Disney Classic movie that will be on that will finish in time for Doctor Who.

WE, as a family ALL watch Doctor Who, though I have threated to beat anyone who speaks during, and then I phone my friend for about an hour discussing Who.

Then I truly veg in front of the Tele eating random crap again waiting for Boxng Day.

What is Boxing Day, exactly? I mean, I know that it's the day after Christmas, but that's about it. I'm really curious.
