Boxing Day is a public holiday in the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, as well as many other members of the Commonwealth of Nations and Greece. It is based on the tradition of giving gifts to the less fortunate members of society. Contemporary Boxing Day in Canada is a "shopping holiday" associated with after Christmas sales.

It is usually celebrated on 26th of December, the day after Christmas Day[1][2]; however, its associated public holiday can be moved to the next weekday if 26th of December is a Saturday or Sunday. The movement of Boxing Day varies between countries.

I don't give gifts, what I do is give my time and food to my church and we open a food kitchen for whoever needs it.

I still don't know what it is either! I always thought it was something to do with cardboard boxes.

A Christmas box is, in English tradition, a clay box used in artisan shops. Apprentices, masters, visitors, customers, and others would put donations of money into the box, like a piggy bank, and then, after Christmas, the box would be shattered and all the contents shared among the workers of the shop. Thus, masters and customers could donate bonuses to the workers anonymously, and the employees could average their wages. The habit of breaking the Christmas box lent its name to Boxing Day. The term "Christmas box" now refers generally to a gift or pay bonus given to workers.[4]

I enjoy Christmas but i am not religious so i don't "celebrate" I have fun with family and am really looking forward to seeing my daughter's face Christmas morning with her presents 🙂
 
We celebrate Christmas. I'm Catholic, so on Christmas Eve we go to Church for Midnight Mass....then usually we have a light "breakfast" after, coffee or hot chocolate and a couple of pastries....then home to bed at about 3 am! Christmas morning we get up and open presents, then eat dinner. Sometimes we cook a big holiday dinner here, and sometimes we go out, just depends. I think this year we're going out, there's only going to be 5 of us. The rest of the day will be spend laying on the couch, complaining about how stuffed we are!
 
As an Athiest, the religion aspect of Christmas never really meant much to me.

Christmas Eve is spent by me and my immediate family (mom, dad, brother, sister) sitting in the living room and watching all the old Christmas movies.

Christmas Day is dinner at my Grandmother's for us and the rest of the family (Great-Grandmother, Grandmother, aunt, uncle, cousins) and we open our presents together.

Boxing Day is me taking the kid from next door out to dinner. I've looked after her every Boxing Day from the year she was born, but she's 8 years old now, so sitting in watching The Little Mermaid just isn't going to cut it this year, lol.
 
I've never been a christian girl. So, I guess it's not really "celebrating". But anyhoo, this is what happens
Before Christmas:
Go to airport to pick up uncle

Christmas day:
My mum wakes me up
My mum wakes my uncle up
Go to my grandparents
Snacks
Open Presents
Christmas "lunch"
Check out presents
Eat some more
go home
decide whether or not to throw up

Boxing Day
Get up
Go to grandparents
eat christmas leftovers

I love Christmas time. My family don't really have any traditions set in stone, my family in Australia is only my grandparents, my uncle, my aunty and my grant uncle (and obviously their family). So it's usually quite small, although as everyone's getting older there are partners as well. We only have one kid in the family so the day usually revolves around her, which is great fun.

This Christmas I'm having my parents over for Christmas Eve, we'll have good food and a couple of beers each, go for a walk to look at Christmas lights if it's not to hot, listen to some music and exchange presents (but we're not aloud to open them till Christmas morning).

I'm spending this Christmas with my boyfriends family, lots and lots and lots of food and beer to be consumed. His mum and myself will be making slushies as well. Sitting all day in the sun in a bikini next to their pool and swimming quite a lot.

Boxing Day I haven't decided what I'm doing yet. I'll either spend the morning at the beach or with my rellies at a picnic. Then in the afternoon I'm going to a BBQ at a friends house which will be very very boozey.

The Saturday after I will wake up really hungover, but with Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket and walk into the city to go shopping. I'll get in there, whinge about the heat, and the rude crowds and walk back home and go to sleep.
 
I celebrate Christmas.
This year will be my first Christmas away from home, and I'm really excited about it. I'm gonna sleep over my roommate's parents' house (because his mom doesn't want the place to be too lonely) and open presents there. I don't know what we're doing afterwards yet.
 
Im another Christmas person. I dont like Christmas and would prefer to give it all a miss but I still go along, put a smile on my face and usually it doesn't turn out so bad as I think it is going to. I think I dread it more than I have to. I usually end up with some good stuff 😛 hehe.

Christmas is pretty hectic. We used to do the whole midnight mass too but we havent done it since I left home. I have 3 separate Christmases to go to cos everyone is all separated and that. Usually I overheat the car driving from one place to another and spend half the day on the side of the freeway waiting for it to cool down. Mum usually makes nice fruit platters and cocktails, Dads family has a HUGE BBQ with all sorts of food, tons of seafood and that big bird thing where they put one bird inside another inside another and it goes on for ages til its the size of an emu. And lots of beer there too, it can get pretty messy, most of them end up in the pool in their clothes, or worse, without their clothes. My sisters place is semi normal, she makes tons of food too and we play ping pong and get rather wasted on all sorts.
Boxing day is drinking beer and eating left overs while watching the cricket in the air con or going for a dip in the pool if we dont get seasick.

This year we are all off to Sydney, (by saying all I mean 9 people). I dont know how it will be. Probably much the same but without a pool. Boxing day we are going to the sales (YAY, especially cos we are doing the no pressies thing) the boys got see the Sydney-Hobart race start. No way you would catch me on a boat after all that food and drink!

Christmas. Though it isn't really in the "real" meaning for me. Whatever that might be. I need to convince the presentpart is one of the best parts 😛.

On the 5th of December, I didn't point it but just saying it, we also celebrate, well actually more the younger kids but every reason is a good one to get presents 😀, Sinterklaas. It's an old man who has his birthday on that day and he brings presents around the world in the night of 5/6 December. He is similiar to Santa Clause I guess.

I celebrate Christmas. Being Eastern Orthodox, it involves Liturgy either Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day, I tend not to care which, I just love going. But Christmas Eve is nicer in a way because it's all candlelit. I love candles... I just... burn myself with them... 😉 (Even burned myself during my own wedding). Presents and stockings, of course. This year, though, I WILL open presents in my pajamas. We never did that growing up. Always after we were dressed, ate breakfast, and had done the dishes. So, for the first time ever, I want to open them in my pajamas, and BEFORE breakfast. 😉

I also celebrate St. Nicholas Day on December 6, when we put our shoes outside our bedroom doors and in the morning they're filled with gold coins and nuts and oranges... 🙂
 
christmas ! 😀 i've got some good memories about it and even though im not really a christian i always get the happies this time of the year xD
now seriously, it's good to see the family altogether and there's this feeling in the air you know? oh and of course i like the prsents its usually good to get stuff
 
I celebrate Christmas, though a close friend of mine celebrates Hannakuh, and I went over his house on the first night and thought it was pretty fun.

My schedule for Christmas Eve/Morning:

Eve:

Lounge around all day watching Christmas movies/Listening to Christmas music
Have a seafood fest with finger-foods and such
Take a walk around the neighborhood looking at the Christmas decorations and lights
Go to Midnight Mass at our Catholic church

Morning:

Wake up around 8:00 AM
Eat Christmas breakfast
Open presents
Go to Grandparent and Aunt's house to exchange gifts
Look at gifts
Christmas dinner
 
Christmas!!

Got to be Christmas for me. Especially this year. My daughter is 3 now and is already getting so excited its making me feel like a kid again. Can't wait to see the look on her face Christmas morning.
Hope everyone's been good else Santa wont visit?!?! :santa2:
