What I can't stop thinking about...

After reading the preview for issue 19, I've come up with a possible scenario. We've all been contemplating what DW meant when she said "the most important thing about death isn't who dies, it's who kills them", right?

Now granted, I don't have much to go off of for my hypothesis I'm about to present, just a few bits and pieces and what I've read of issue 19. What if the reason Willow is immortal and dark is because she was the one that killed Twilight? What if the reason why the slayer line died out was because Buffy dies in the fight against Twilight? What if DW thinks the only way for the slayer line to survive, is if Buffy survives and therefore she must be the one to ultimately end Twilight and become immortal.

I mean, it's not like Buffy would be lonely in her immortality, and we did see that flash of Spike with the scythe in ATF. Plus, who knows what happens to Angel, unless he is Twilight (which I think he may be, since the visions foretold he'd be fighting on the side of evil and all) and in that case, it could explain why Angel was brought back in S3. Buffy killed him at the wrong time because she was supposed to fight him in the final fight.

Or perhaps Buffy wouldn't become immortal. Perhaps she has to be the one to kill Twilight (or whatever the ultimate Big Bad is, I'm just using Twilight since it seems like he supposed to be) so that the slayer line will truly die out along with all the magic of the world, that way we don't end up with the future that Fray lives. It could be a different future, where since there won't be anymore vamps, period, Harth can't be turned and thus Fray and the rest of the world gets a happily ever after.

So, what do you think?

Interesting. Do you think Twilight could be Angelus or Angel? Not that it matters, I just wonder.

In regards to your comment, I think it's an interesting theory, and makes sense, but I think there could be more simplicity to the explanation. Think about it, what would be worse, your leader being killed by a random, or your leader being killed by the leader of your enemy. If you think about every bad guy in every story ever told, they always want the good guy for themselves, it's because it's more crippling. You can't call it a fluke when a leader kills another leader, it changes things, it finishes the war. Maybe that's a weird explanation, but I think that's part of it.

If you die in battle by some random person, you die on the field, perhaps no one ever finds you, you die probably without being in the history books. If you guy fighting the worst of the worst, it is an epic tale. Remember Willow said history is nothing but interesting stories. I don't know how that figures in, but it's interesting the in 200 years, the history books died, and there's no mention of Buffy. Just vague legends. There is no story. If you think about it, 200 years is not very much. 200 years is a blip, and for there to be a room full of books, and for them to have absolutely nothing... is quite peculiar.

I like your immortality theory, and I like how you theorize that there has to be something important about who kills who in some scenario in the future, and I think you're right about that. I don't get what I'm saying because Willow is just such an enigma that I get so wrapped around what she could be saying, that I just confuse myself. But oh well... I really hope Joss just blows my mind.

P.S. I wish I didn't know about the comics, so I could find out about them after they were done, and be a freak and obsessively read them one after another.. I HATE waiting

I think the reason DW is "immortal" or at least has lived this long, is because she has done it to herself, just so she could intervene in this meeting.

I think I got it. Twilight turns out to be Spike. He tell Buffy that she made some bad moves. Buffy agree to undo the slayer army, reprogram every minds. Dawn tranform into two things, a boy(Harth) and a girl(Melaka). Buffy start calling herself Erin Fray. The end of magic is here.

I wonder if the mystery concerning the statement, "It doesn't matter who dies. It's who kills them" might refer to whether DW kills GW, or GW kills DW. That could tie up the other mystery of why Saga Visuki doesn't want GW to look when she opens the rift.

IF GW gets sucked into the future, and killed by DW does it create this kind of time loop where everything ends at that point. Has DW been stuck in that loop trying to alter events like the character in Groundhog day? Has DW finally decided the only way to end it is to let GW kill her?

Okay, I know that DW is Dark Willow, but who is GW now? I don't care for spoilers anymore, so don't worry - I'm already up to Issue #17.

My theory is that the reason there were no Slayers from Buffy's time up until Melaka Fray (200 years in the future) is because the "Slayer mojo" is limited in amount, which is why the Shadow Men created only one Slayer at a time rather than an army of them. When Willow used the Scythe to activate all the Potentials, she burned up all of the magic that was supposed to power individual Slayers for the next several centuries. The future fate we've seen for Willow here may be at least partly a consequence of having done that.

I don't think Twilight is Angel or Spike. How ever "Angel: After the Fall" ends may make that a bit clearer, since it is also canonical and takes place prior to Buffy season 8. I think Dark Horse had to agree not to use those characters in the season 8 comic until after the Angel series (which is being published by another company) ends... of course, that could be a reason why Twilight has to wear a luchador mask. 🙂

My biggest fear is that Joss is fixing to take Willow away from us, and from Buffy... permanently this time. I hope not. If I understood anything of the lecture Willow gave the Slayers about the time anomaly, it should be reversible and not etched in stone. I hope they are able to correct the anomaly by saving Willow from whatever was going to cause her DW fate. (Not by de-powering all the non-Buffy Slayers, I hope.)

Spoiler for the Fray graphic novel:
In "Fray" we are told that something happened in the 21st century to banish all demons from earth for a time, and thus end the need for Slayers until the demons found their way back in. Could Willow have had a hand in bringing this about, at a great cost to herself?

According to the series Fray there were slayers between the time of the "final battle", and Fray, they just weren't trained by the watchers, and there were no demons left for them to fight. The real discrepancy between Chosen and Fray is there were multiple slayers after Chosen, and the line had somehow returned to single slayers by the time of Fray.

Dark Horse editor, Scott Allie has stated on multiple occasions they can legally use the Angel characters anytime they want.

The previews to the upcoming comics tell us Willow is still around, so she appears safe.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's wondered why, if there was enough power available to keep an army of Slayers going, they didn't do so right from the start. It's always seemed to me like the kind of question that had "future plot point" written all over it.

You're definitely not the only one who had such questions. In fact Whedon was asked on more than one occasion to explain how there could be multiple slayers after Chosen, and a single slayer (well 2 really, I guess) in Fray. He promised to make it make sense in the future. Many of us are hoping that's what's going to happen in the upcoming issue.

Until the IDW comics conclude, though, we don't even know whether those characters are still alive in Buffy's later continuity, or what their status is. I suspect Dark Horse is leaving them out as a professional courtesy and in respect of Joss's decision to make both series canonical.

We don't know if those characters are still alive, but I think it's safe to say Joss does. We're told he gave a general road map to Lynch as to what would be in Angel: After the Fall.

We do know Harmony is in an upcoming B-8 ep, because it appears in a DH promo. I'm going to assume Joss knows whether or not Harmony was introduced, or died in A:AtF. I'd make the same assumption about Oz.

But yeah, you'd expect professional courtesy between DH, and IDW. In fact, I'm not sure, but didn't Allie make a comment suggesting that was the case?

Well they already briefly used Angel and Spike in Buffys little dream sequence. DH can most likely use the charecters just not run any titles with the name Angel or Spike in them, IDW has the publication rights to that. But none of the writers or Joss have wanted to use any of the Fang Gang in the comic so its not something they have to worry about.

Having those characters in season 8 at this point would be a spoiler, as it would indicate that they survived the conclusion of A:AtF.

Which makes Twilight's mask so suspicious... is it there to hide just such a spoiler? Or maybe Joss knows we'll think that and this is just a fake-out, like making us think Harth's ally was Drusilla before revealing her as DW.
