What I'd like to see

I haven't gotten passed issue 10 so please no spoiling.

I have never been a comic fan until Buffy (and still Buffy is the only comic I'd read). I am an artist who only does portraits and I have done a ton of SMG. Needless to say I know her face. lol that sounds funny but for an artist they'd understand. I don't like the art in S8. The covers are mind blowing but the characters inside look nothing like themselves. Some do, but Buffy looks nothing like her. I have only read three of the omnibus but I have seen some of the later pre s8 comics. I really like whoever did the later comics. They nailed the characters faces. They got everything on smg face right, the square nose, slightly drooping eyes, the pouty mouth (I am not criticizing I think smg is hot and beautiful) and even her impossible jaw line. Although the art wasn't as detailed as s8, the characters look much more like the real ones. I know its a comic and that it is not supposed to look real, but it is hard to get into a character when it looks nothing like what you are used to seeing on TV. So in a nutshell I wish they would bring that person in for season 8 comics, or have that person co-work with the new.

I've met the main artist of the S8 comics, Georges Jeanty, and I've listened to him talk about his art, and what Joss wanted from him as far as the characters went. Joss was very specific about wanting Georges to draw the characters of BTVS and not the actors. Georges said this was hard, as he knows we all envision SMG when thinking about Buffy, Michelle is Dawn ect, and so does he. In fact, he said he had the hardest time with Dawn, as he just couldn't figure out how she would look.

But I do understand where you're coming from, as an artist myself, and I know that if they tried a little harder Georges and Co. could make Buffy look a little more like Sarah, Willow a little more like Alyson. But I don't know if I would like it. I think I've gotten used to the comic-versions of the characters, lol.

Personally, I love Georges work on S8, I think he brings the characters to life without relying heavily on the actors likenesses. It's easy to lok at the comics and know who's who, and I think most, emphasis on the 'most' lol, of the S8 artists have done a great job with the BTVS characters.

Well, I agree with Buffy looking NOTHING like SMG. But she also doesn't look like Buffy. I mean the other characters (Giles, Willow, Faith, Xander, Andrew) at least look like one would expect them to look in mind's eye. Buffy is too far off base.
