Spoiler! What if Angel was in Chosen?

So I was thinking... Angel mentioned that the amulet Spike wore in the final episode Chosen was meant for him. How would you feel if Angel had been the one to wear the amulet, be in the season finale and ultimately die? How do you think this could have changed the feel of this season and ultimately affected the series of Angel?

While I love the idea of Buffy, Faith, Spike, and Angel all fighting together, it would have just been to please the fans. It wasn't Angels place. Plus all of the awesome Spuffyness may have died out in that episode. But I would have loved to see the two ensouled vampires and slayers fight together at some point in the series, I am opposed to Angel being in the final fight.

Well I haven't watched much of Angel, but to me the whole concept of it seems to be that Angel is trying to redeem himself for Angelus' actions, so I think if Angel had of taken Spikes place, people would be made to wonder what on earth he had to do in order to be 'redeemed'. Saying that I haven't seen an awful lot of Angel so I might be missing something 😉

It pains me to say it, but I think it's better how it is. Buffy wouldn't have told Spike she loved him if it had been Angel, and it would have made AtS completely messed up.

I think that Angel would have simply added to the confusion and ill feelings if he had stayed, and more than a little actual conflict. Buffy already had more than enough problems to deal with in her upcoming fight without having to keep the two of them from trying to kill each other. And just imagine Angel's reaction when Buffy made him share a room with Giles while she slept in the basement with Spike. And how about when Angel burned up in the hellmouth, and Spike was left to help Buffy go and build her Slayer army?

But, seriously. that was Spike's battle, his chance to be the Champion and save the day. Spike earned his place at Buffy's side in that last battle. He earned it with his pain and his loyalty. He earned it by doing something that, as far as we know, no other vampire had ever done of his own free will, and he nearly died in the process. Having Angel swoop in there at the last moment and steal, or at least TRY to steal all of the glory, without suffering a bit of the pain or faced any of the dangers that had gotten them to that point, just wouldn't have been fair.

It pains me to say it (being a Bangel as well as a Fangle) but I agree with WA it would have been all wrong. Spuffy needed some kind of closure and Spike had had his character built up for this moment in chosen. It would have been very wrong of Angel and would have destroyed ATS.

white avenger agrees: "Closure?" Let's don't get too far ahead of ourselves here. More like the prelude to a new beginning, if Season 9 so far is any indication.

Ah this may be true but I don't read the comics so it was closure for me like the tying up of emotions and Spike's acceptance that she did not love him in the way he wanted her to. That's what I meant by it anyway. If I read the comics I would probably have a different opinion. 🙂

I think it would have made Angel S5 a bit more interesting with Angel being the incorporeal one. I think it would have been fascinating to see how he handled that.

But that would have made the Buffy finale about the next season of Angel and that wouldn't have been right. In saying that, I think Angel had a place in the Buffy finale because he had been a huge part of that show and its story.

I really can't say I agree with you on this. 😀
But then, I'm with you when you say it would have been wrong having Angel back. Sure he has been an important character in Btvs, but it was kind of over. So much had happend since he was gone, I don't think he fitted anymore. It'd have just felt awkward.

To be honest this is one of the reasons I liked it the way it was. I liked the contrast between Angel and Spike. Angel is the more figurative metaphoric individual and he felt that he wasn't in control at W&H even though he tried to convince himself he was. He also felt 'disconnected' and believed because of his past actions and perhaps even his soulled choices, he was going to hell.

Spike on the other hand is more literal and to the point. He literally can't affect the world so was disconnected in that respect. He was also literally being dragged to hell. I liked how the problems mirrored each other and how the fitted their respective personalities.

Almost certainly, W&H would have figured out a way to turn the situation to their advantage, possibly by forcing Angel to sign a contract with them, becoming their minion in exchange for regaining solidity again so that he could protect Connor or some of his friends. Then the rest of the season would have been spent trying to get out of the deal somehow. In that scenario, Spike obviously wouldn't have been on the show, so probably Faith or one of the younger Slayers (maybe Kennedy, with Willow there as a bonus) to help out.

We saw way too much of Angel in Season 7. And that kiss was sooooo wrong. Perhaps even worse than Kennedy.

I would absolutely hate it. We already had enough bad acting in the season with the potentials. I didn't even like the fact that Angel showed up at all. It makes me despise Buffy, again, just when I was starting to like her again.

The final battle was spectacular without Angel. I think he would have just gotten in the way with his jealousy of Spuffy, tbh.

That's a very elegant point but I think I would have liked it because it would have put Angel in a position where he would have had to find a way to make a difference without his physical presence, which I think he leans on a lot. I would have really enjoyed seeing him trying to fight while he was essentially incapacitated, I think there is a lesson in that for Angel waiting to be learned.

As for Spike, well I'd imagine he wouldn't have been in LA at all, since he would have survived the fall of Sunnydale.
