Say Buffy had been in hell insted of Heaven. When Willow brought her back wouldn't she be all crazy animal likem like Angel was when he came back in season 3? Did Willow and co not think of this!?

It feels like the gang didn't think through everything when bringing Buffy back. For example, when they didn't open the grave but let Buffy dig out herself. I remember from that s1 episode "Nightmares" that Buffy was afraid of being burried alive so it must have been horrbile for her in many different ways.

Then if Buffy had been in a hell dimention, she'd probably come back as some crazed savage trying to kill the scoobs or anybody else for that matter. I understand Giles was upset when he got back, they weren't really being responsible. I can agree with Spike when he said the gang hadn't told him anything about bringing Buffy back cause something might go wrong. They knew this. But being so desperate to have Buffy back, they gave it a shot anyway.

I think they did think of that. Hence the reason they decided to bring her back and why they kept saying she'd been in a hell dimension and that's why she was acting all aloof (such as in omwf, etc).

I agree. I do understand Giles, and Spike too. But I think Willow was the one who was supposed to know everything about the spell, and she thought she did, she had become pretty messed up and addicted to magic by know, which the others didn't really realize yet, they just trusted her to know what was best. Giles knew better though.
Either way.. I think it would be worth it, bringing Buffy back was the most important thing to all of them, she was the most important thing.. I think that they would've taken the risk, even if they had really thought through what could happen.. And I do understand them..

Actually, I think that Willow was just using that as an excuse. There's a very real chance that she did know that Buffy definitely wasn't in hell, but I think a part of her hoped that Buffy was, so Willow could bring Buffy back. All of the Scoobies, mainly Willow, were very selfish in Bargaining, just wanting Buffy back for whatever reasons. If they thought things out more, they could have maybe realized what they were doing was wrong. Even Tara said that it defied the Laws of Nature, and it was completely wrong. Just a few months before Tara and Willow were scolding Dawn for wanting to bring Joyce back, now look where they've gotten themselves. But of course it's understandable with the whole "not dying natural" thing, but still, all of them were quite selfish, the way that I see it.

I think it was selfish, because they didnt leave buffy to do what she wanted in hell/heaven, but they knew she was needed for the world and they couldnt handlie it the self, they couldnt just leave the world unprotected and i think willow knew and tara too that buffy may have been in heaven, not that she was but that there was a chance, which means there was a chance she was in hell, so with no way of finding out which they brought her back, she may have come back a savage animal but its better than the alternative living her life in a hell dimensions, being tortured etc.

I always saw that as Willow's little science experiment.

I mean she was getting powerful and had explored most of the dark arts, so why not do a ressurection spell.

And you guys are right, they had no idea where she was or what she would be like once she got back. They didn't think it through, selfish incompetent brats.

I know theres the fact that there was no active Slayer, but the Council could have simply killed Faith (Not that I don't like Faith, its just that she was no use in jail) or they could have gotten her out just like in Angel.

I think your completely right!!!
See I don't think Faith would have come out so easily. She proved that in S4 of ATS. She wasn't willing to come out until she heard that Angelus was back.

I think thats odd. Because Faith never faced Angelus. She only heard rumors of him.

I would be much more scared of the Hellmouth being unprotected than some infamous vampire becoming un-ensouled and evil again.

Hm, was Faith ever even told that Buffy was dead?

Faith probably never new Buffy died in the body. Maybe Willow or someone else told her when she got out of jail.

But it's true, it's kinda strange that she came out because of Angelus...

Angel was the only person who ever believed in Faith and tried to help her be a better person-of COURSE she would come out to help him. For Faith, I don't think it had anything to do with saving people-it had to do with saving Angel.

That is exactly how I see it too!

Exactly Right!!!!
I think they might have thought about Buffy being crazy when she came out but they knew that Angel recovered so they probably thought that it was better for her to have to recouperate than stay in the hell dimension.

I don't think a lot of people knew that Buffy was dead. They wanted to bring her back and that would have looked strange if everyone knew she was gone. Plus, they wanted to keep Dawn in Sunnydale so not even Buffy's dad knew she was dead.

No, I think she believed Buffy was in hell. If you watch OMWF again (and again and again...oh, wait...I did) and see the expression on Willow's face (great acting, BTW) you know what she was hearing about Buffy being in Heaven was a horrifying surprise to her.

Connor, on the other hand, came out of Koritoth (?) relatively normal...except for the wanting to kill Angel part...he wasn't as wild as Angel was in S3. So, would Buffy have been crazed? I guess it depends on how "bad" hell really was!

Faith sees Angelus as how she felt about herself when she was a crazy killer. Angel helped her overcome this and she wanted to help him overcome it.

As far as a hell dimension goes, it strikes me as odd "She saved the world a lot...so shes going to burn in a hell dimension". Ah well.

I think it was more like she had hear the rumors and stories from the Scooby Gang. I mean he was an almost deadly foe to the superslayer Buffy, and has a tenedancy to want to destroy the world. So therefore a huge threat. Plus she did kinda have that whole "I only like Angel" thing going on.

I think they believed she went to a hell dimension because of the way she died.

She died by jumping into Glory's portal, which lead to her home hell dimension. So if you think about it, it is logical to assume that her soul would have been trapped in some hell dimension.

But they had no right in finding out if she did.

I think it was selfish, because they didnt leave buffy to do what she wanted in hell/heaven, but they knew she was needed for the world and they couldnt handlie it the self, they couldnt just leave the world unprotected . . .

I don't think that's a good excuse for their actions.

There was no excuse. Willow even admits she was being selfish in 'Tabula Rasa'. And they absolutly didn't think everything out or they would have dug Buffy up first (and this is something Xander mentions).

I am convinced Willow did not know where Buffy was and really thought she was in a hell dimension. Her expression at the end of 'OMWF' shows that (and I agree, great acting job by Alyson Hannigan, but is there anything she can't do).

I think they did mean to help Buffy but Willow's actions in 'Tabula Rasa' and Giles and Tara's departures fracture the group and force Buffy even more into a place of isolation where she seeks out comfort in the only place she can- Spike's arms; thus setting up the rest of the season.

what buffy's friends did really was selfish and none was more selfish than willow herself, because frankly, looking back at everything that happened, it really makes you wonder whether she reeally wanted to bring buffy back in the end of the day or just prove to herself that she could and that she could push the limit even more. i don't argue with that her intentions were pure and good (at least in part tyhey were), but it was not all perfect.
and also, it's true. they couldn't tell for a fact where she was, hell or heaven (each is understandable - she jumped "into" hell dimention but she also jumped to save the world, and even so... guys, she was *buffy*. so hell? don't think so). but they couldn't handle a world without her.

I don't think it occured to the scoobs that Buffy was in heaven. If you think about it, there are a number of different hell dimensiosn. Buffy herself visits a version in Season 3 episode Anne. And like KD said Connor came back pretty normal.

The other thing as well, no one saw what Angel was like when he came back. The gang only found out Angel was back when he was almost normal. Giles was the only one who knew what a person would come back like after they had spent time in a hell dimension and he wasn't there.

I think there was a degree of self-interest in Willow's decision to resurrect Buffy. It happened to dovetail with the (mistaken) theory that she went to the dimension that the portal lead to. Both of these things made it seem urgent to call Buffy back, that and the stress of fighting the Hellmouth battles and trying to keep Dawn in Sunnydale, and at "home". All these factors taken together made it inevitable that Buffy would be brought back...that and the contracts all the actors signed...
