What if Doyle didn't die?

It's all so sad. You people are sitting here talking about it like it means nothing. I however, have seen the affects of drugs and addiction, its a disease, not some freak accident. It was not Joss's fault what-so-ever, how could you ever consider that a possibility? It shouldn't even be up for discussion. It's ignorant.

After cross-checking the info a bit, this one seems to tell the story pretty good.

Angel Star Glenn's Tragic Death...

The tragic details of the death of Irish actor Glenn Quinn, famous for his roles in hit TV series' Angel and Roseanne, have been released to the press.

According to reports the talented Dublin actor died on a friend's couch in LA from a heroin overdose. When he was found he had a syringe in his pocket and a packet of heroin.

The Los Angeles coroner stated that tests showed that 5ft 7ins Glenn had .32ml of morphine in his blood and he was 12st 7lb when he died. He also had needle marks in both arms.

According to reports the 32 year old's spleen, liver, and lungs were all congested and his heart was enlarged. The official cause of his death on December 2nd 2002 was given as "morphine intoxication" due to a lethal heroin injection.

Glenn had a tattoo Erin Go Bragh (Ireland Forever) on his right shoulder and a harp on his left.

I'm not sure if you're talking to me or not, but in case you are...sorry to say, but it pretty much is nothing to me. I mean, it's not like I knew the guy personally. He was a great actor, sure, but life goes on. If I knew him personally, maybe I wouldn't talk about it like it was nothing, but none of us do know him, and none of us know *all* the details. We just know what's released to the public. How can we talk about it like it's something to us, when we didn't even know the guy?

And quite possibly, it may have been nobody's fault. Maybe Glenn was just too high to realize that he was ODing? Who knows. Either way, his drug use might have affected how long Doyle was in the series for, and if he died, provided that Joss didn't decide to kill Doyle to (as I have heard) show that not everyone can escape death.

I'm talking about the person who thinks its a good idea to blame Joss Whedon for Glenn Quinn's death, it's the most pathetic thing i've ever read on this forum. When you have no idea what drug addiction does to a person, then don't post your comment. Regardless of whether you knew him or not doesn't matter. Nobody has a right to sit there and talk about something they have no idea about. It's a sensitive subject. But you should really be careful what you say to people, or what you say about a situation, aspecially when you have no idea what you're talking about.

Again i say there would have been an actor change (Glenn had cancer as far as i know).. and as someone pointed out its not joss style to change actors although it could have been done if after being with the bomb he returned somehow (a few characters did - cordy buffy etc)but returned as a fulltime demon rather than a human/demon cause then the actor would be covered in makeup and it would allow for some kind of physical change - although i don't think him and cordy would have lasted as at that time she was too superficial to cope with dating a demon.

Hmm, I'm not too sure about that. In Hero, she mentioned that being a demon was a very low point on her list, and it came below short, ugly and poor on her list of 'why-I-can't-date-you.' Although, it's also quite possible that you're right, she could quite possibly not be mature enough to date a full-demon (as opposed to halfling...someone who's half human, half demon...see Doyle, Angel, Cordelia Post Birthday...).

Hahahahaha ok so when you say Glenn Quinn had cancer, I'd like to see the proof of that please. Because no one has mentioned a single thing about him having cancer, so please, indulge us!

Hi, i like giving you Positive Karma......i hear its good for the baby:)
I know this isn't the point of this thread, but I would just like to address some issues that have been raised regarding Glenn Quinn "suicide".

You don't go to a friend's house to kill yourself.

I have had childhood friend's and a close family member who have succumbed to the evils of heroin addiction. Research has proven that heroin addicts do not intentionally kill themselves.

As has been pointed out, suicide occurs when one's limit for pain is exceeded and they feel they can no longer go on. Heroin is a pain killer, a comfort drug. It is taken to reduce pain. Suicide occurs to end pain. Traditionally the two don't mix.

I am almost 100% sure, that Glenn Quinn's death was accidental.

As for the actual point of this thread. I have no idea. Questions like these should be left to fanfiction.

THANK YOU!!!! this is all im trying to address here, if only people would read stuff like this before posting their rediculous comments.
While I agree that a heroin overdose, though tragic, does not equal suicide, I think it is a valid question to ask what might have happened to the character of Doyle had it not been killed off the show. The two events are not connected for our purposes.

And just because someone misunderstands something, that doesn't make them an idiot. Please try to correct facts without putting other people down.

Don't hate me, but I still wanna discuss the Glenn Quinn thing so I opened a thread here, How Did Glen Quinn Die?

Now on the question What if Doyle Didn't Die? It would create other questions like "Would you still need Wesley?" If so, which one would you want?

Excellent idea - feel free to split off the appropriate posts from the original thread and merge them with the new one if you want.

Rock on, man ;)
I'd rather have Wesley. I didn't really feel any attachment whatsoever with Doyle. I'm really not sure why. I just really find it hard to believe that Angel loved him like a brother (and part of that could be because of how stoic and unflappable he seemed for most of Season 1, including the part that Cordelia told Angel to talk about Doyle). I think the chemistry between Cordelia, Angel and Wesley is *far* better than that with Doyle. I'm not sure if it's the character chemistry or the actor chemistry (more likely the character though, because I hear that David B. had big respect towards Glenn).

Wesley seemed to fit in alot more nicely with Cordelia (their banter was easier than the banter with Doyle seemed to be), and his character was able to make Angel come out of his shell easier than Doyle's character. The overall feeling I get of Angel towards Doyle is that he doesn't feel that strongly one way or the other about Doyle (I understand if someone disagrees with me, since we all have our own opinions, I just feel that Angel was rather neutral). The only time Angel really showed strong emotion about Doyle's death was when Wes wanted to go with Angel to hunt down something in 1x11 - Parting Gifts, and Angel says something to the effect of "I had someone by my side, and I lost him. I'm not going to lose you too."

It was obvious Angel cared about Doyle because of the way he opened up to him in a lot of the eps. Way more than he opened up to anyone on Buffy before that.
Nackereia disagrees: Who has time to read 3 whole pages of a conversation before jumping in?

i do it all the time, i never post if i dont know what the conversation is about. Simply because I don't want to post something thats already been said.

See here is the problem with that question.

Doyle - 9 episodes at the beginning
Wesley - 100+ episodes from both shows

Without doubt I love Wesley. His character, for me, has been a shining example of who well the writers can take one person and create some fantastic TV around them.
My personal opinion is that no other character was as well developed as him YET i'm not sure i'd pick him over Doyle because there just isn't a strong enough story on Doyle to be fair.

I also must take into account Cordelia.
Another character I love, but, in my opinion(again) she did alot of growing up from City of... to Hero but with the introduction of Wesley, as much as it was great TV, she did kind of stall on the maturing for quite a while, reverting to the Sunnydale girl we knew.

As I sit here, I will say I would not change Wesleys evolution for anything - I just wish I could have had my cake and eat it in the form of having both Wes and Doyle....but that is another question - could they have worked together?
