Say Firefly was brought back. How would you all feel about this consitering Wash and Shepard wouldn't be involved? Do you think this would be a big deal, or do you feel their characters are easily replaceable?

Discuss.

Also to the MODS: Was that spoiler warning neccesary? I wasn't sure. 🙂
I know quite a few people on here haven't seen the film.

I wouldn't say easily replaced, but I think the show could go on without them
Neither of them was the main reason why I watched the show.

It's a shame though with all the great storylines that hasn't been told and that I would love to see.
Especially Shepards backstory.

On the other hand we could get a lot of new stories.
I can see the show go a bit darker, with Mal being in a not so great place.

A big problem is though that so much of the main story with River and all that has been revealed already.
The arc of a whole season, if not more, has been lost. Not so easy to replace that with something else just as interesting.

/SK

If it were brought back now, you'd have to worry about losing more than just Book and Wash. It's been too long. I can't say for certain what must of the cast is doing, but Adam Baldwin is committed to doing Chuck for the time being, so the show would have to be Jayne-less too. That would hurt a lot!

From what Joss said about discounting Season 8 if he could ever make a "Buffy" movie, I see no reason why he wouldn't apply the same logic to a new "Firefly" series. He wouldn't hesitate to bring the entire crew back and just say that the events of "Serenity" were just a bad dream that Jayne had after eating too much synthetic protein and washing it down with Mudders' Milk.

I think that would be a more difficult sell with Firefly. The comics are only read by the hardest of hardcore fans. People who'd never even heard of Firefly saw Serenity. A friend of mine told me he hadn't even realized it was a spinoff of a TV show when he watched it. I think its just too late to take back the events of Serenity. Also, the best shot the show had at getting back on the air was the success of the movie so I'm sure if Joss thought about resurrecting it at all, the new episodes would take place after the events of Serenity.

Serenity was truly awesome anyway. Better than the show, IMO. So I think it would be incredibly stupid of Joss to recanonize the Firefly universe...although at this point I think a series of movies is more realistic than a return of Firefly, the show.

I don't think the show will come back. If it did, I don't think it would be as good. Book's secret backstory was one of the major developing plotlines. Without it, the show would miss a lot. Similarly, the Wash/Zoe relationship was kind of a big deal. They were heading toward a conflict about whether or not to have a baby. That's another big story to just take away. Sure, we could get another mysterious guy and another funny guy, but they wouldn't have the same impact.
