What if Jenny had worked on the cure at her house?

While re-watching Season 2, when Jenny died, it made me think of a hypothetical question.

Why didn't Jenny work on the cure at her home? I'd imagine that someone who liked computers as much as she did would have one at home. That way, she could have worked on the cure there, Angelus probably wouldn't have been able to find her home in time much less gain entry to it. Jenny would have been able to get the cure, and the Scoobies could have acted upon it in daybreak, thus restoring Angel's soul before he awakened Acathla, and likely saving his life.

I get that for the plot to have worked the way it did, Jenny had to die. But it's a fun hypothetical question to think about. What if things had worked out like I talked about above?

Spike and Drusilla might or might not have fled Sunnydale anyway. If they chose not to flee, it likely would have resulted in their deaths at the hands of Buffy, eventually. Jenny would still be alive, giving Giles a romantic interest throughout the series unless something else happened to her. Buffy would likely not have ran away from home, and Angel would never had to go through the hell experience, basically washing out the first few episodes of Season 3.

Anything I missed or you guys could add? I'd love to hear your feedback on this. 🙂

P.S.- I really liked Jenny, was sad when she died.

I wondered the same thing, but figured she jut didn't have a computer at home. Speaking of her home, did she have a permanent home in Sunnydale or was she staying somewhere temporarily while watching Angel?

I don't think they established where she was staying. But watching Angel, that could've been indefinitely, right? So odds are that she may as well have a home there, but even if not, obviously Angelus couldn't intrude anyway most likely.

You're probably right about Jenny not having a home computer, I was thinking the exact same thing. I'd just be surprised is all, considering she teaches computers. You'd think she'd do research in her own home/apartment.

That's the kind of thing that I would expect of him, and that would also explain why he just happened to be there at that particular time, especially if he had some suspicion that she was, indeed, trying to find the way to reinstate his soul.

The way Angelus thinks he'd probably fire bomb her house if Jenny holed up there to do the spell- he's pretty good at working around problems.

It might not've killed her (if she managed to escape) but it probably would've disrupted the spell being performed

I think it was explained why he knew she was there. I'm pretty sure Drusilla tipped him off. Remember the scene where she kills the shopkeeper? She had a vision that the "bad computer teacher" was trying to restore Angelus' soul, and Angelus went to look where he figured he'd find Jenny.

He had this chilling stalker thing going on in this episode so he likely would have found her at her own home as well. What logically would have happened is that on instinct he'd still go to the school first after Drusilla tipped him off that "The bad computer teacher" was trying to figure out how to restore his soul, but when he didn't find her there her home would be the next sensible choice considering it was late at night. He may not have known where she lived but there were ways to find out, though for a vampire following her scent would be the easiest.

I think that it was more just a dumb mistake on Jenny's part, going there in the first place. She knew enough about vampires to know that he had no barrier stopping him from entering a public place, and, even if he did, a written invitation like that wouldn't work any better than a "Welcome" mat would allow a vampire into someone's home. The invitation has to be verbal, and has to come from someone who actually lives there.

Remember when this episode took place - not everyone had internet at home then.

True, but if anyone in Sunnydale would have had access to the internet, it would have been the Computer instructor at the local high school. In fact, she might have even been required to have it as a necessary aid for her job.

I was about to say something along the lines of your last sentence until I saw it. Jenny had seen Angel there on multiple occasions, including when she knew he was Angelus when he attacked Willow. Jenny wouldn't have been that stupid. I think she was just caught off guard.

I guess it boils down to the fact that Jenny was in a place where she felt safe since she spent so much time at the school and was in her comfort zone. We all do that unless we are in a place that is out of our comfort zone. It went down the way it was supposed to and Jenny ran, tipped something over to trip Angelus up and tried to leave the building but the door she ran to was locked but it would have played better if Jenny hadn't made it so easy for Angelus and had a cross or holy water with her. She must have picked up some self defence moves over the years. I still can't believe that the idea that Angelus would go after Jenny didn't occur to Buffy, Giles, or her friends. If Drucilla hadn't been around still Angel would have had his soul restored before Angelus had any idea it was going to happen and could do something to stop. In that case what would have ostracized Angel then in the 3rd season if not that.
