So I was wondering if Joyce was still alive and Buffy still died etc etc, when Buffy came back would she still be very depressed? Her depression wasn't just being taken from heaven but coming back to pay bills and become a adult, so if Joyce was still alive would this change it? as she could of helped Buffy and would it change more of the storylines?

Please share your thoughts 🙂

As far as season 5 goes I think it would have been an amazing scene to see Joyce watching on distraught as she loses her daughter in exchange for saving the world. No parent ever wants to outlive their children and to see it happen in this way would have been even more tragic and moving than 'The Gift' already was.

I think Joyce would have helped to intervene in Willow's magic addiction, possibly preventing season 6 from turning out the way it did. Although the three dorks as the big bads wouldn't have cut it so maybe having Rack as the bad guy could have been good.

Season 7: Well they certainly wouldn't have kicked Buffy out of her own home and continued to stay there for the world's bitchiest slumber party, that's for sure 🙂 Potential Slayers or not, Joyce would have opened a can on the lot of them!

love this answer haha! now I would of love Joyce to do that in season 7 :P
I think that Joyce would have had major issues about the use of the Buffybot to impersonate her daughter, even if it was explained to her that (this is totally my theory here, with no support of any sort from the actual show) if the Watchers' Counsel ever found out that Buffy wasn't filling in for the actual Slayer, Faith's life would be forfeit in order to have a (hopefully) more easily controllable Slayer Called. I also doubt that Willow and Tara would have moved in.

Yes, I believe that Joyce's presence would have helped Buffy, sure, but Buffy's depression was due to a variety of factors - her job at the Double Meat palace, financial issues, being ripped from Heaven, Dawn's disobedience, etc.

I don't think it would have helped Buffy that much. Part of Buffy's problem was just having to live. I honestly feel that she did have a death wish, as Spike said in FFL. By the end of season 5, I felt that she had lost the will to live because losing people, being the slayer, just plain living was too much for her. Her heroism aside, IMO, she jumped and took Dawn's place because she wanted an out. I know that's not a popular opinion but rewatching season 5 recently I just felt she was desperate to make it all end. So to have to live again after being in heaven and finding the peace she wanted, Joyce or no Joyce, it would still lead to her massive depression in season 6. Joyce being around to pay bills and care for Dawn wouldn't change the fact that Buffy had to face life again.
