What if Spike didn't exist?

So, I'm writing a new Spander fic *yay muse* and Halfrek curses Spike into an alternative universe in which he's a teenager in Sunnydale high, one of the Scoobies and Giles' son. He never existed as Spike slayer of Slayers/born in the 19th century/William the Bloody.

So, before Lover's Walk, what are the changes that should occur if Spike didn't exist? I do think lots of S2 will have a massive change what with Spike bringing Dru to be healed. Perhaps Dru never stepped a foot in Sunnydale. Perhaps Kendra will still be alive. What do you think?

Nah, I'd like S1 to be exactly like it is and same with S2 except for the Spike parts.

Awwww. My next theme would have been that Xander and Spike would be best friends since they were young. Much like Willow and Xander.

Xander is Spike's friend, much to Spike's dismay and disdain, hee. Poor Spike will hate this alternative universe, especially being Giles' son.

The simplest solution to why Spike was there as a human teen would be to substitute him for Jesse, then have him NOT be turned (maybe Buffy's "Watcher's attractive, English son" could be turned, instead, and, if you just HAVE to repeat the gross mistake of Bangel, have Giles find a way to reensoul him). That would leave Spike and Xander as best friends. Dru could be Spike's girlfriend, who is captured by the Master's minions, resulting in her mental problems. Said problems result in her eventually being sent away to a facility for intensive psychiatric care (you could make her the one in "Normal Again," instead of Buffy)

As for how Xander and Spike wind up as a couple, that could be somehow connected with "Something Blue," though with a more long term result.

Of course, beyond the obvious, you would have to manipulate the alternate universe time line in order to have those, and maybe other, future Season episodes occur in Seasons 1 and possibly 2, assuming that you don't want to rush things, then go off on whatever tangent your imagination might take you. It's your fantasy, run with it, and have fun.

These are my thoughts, so if there's a flaw, tell me about it:

1) Dru dies in Prague after being kidnapped and tortured without Spike being there to save her.

2) Buffy kills the Anointed One.

3) William isn't thrilled with his father and Jenny dating and is the only one sympathizing with Buffy in Ted.

4) Xander and Cordelia don't get together in What's My Line because Spike wasn't around to summon the bug man who will lock them in the Summers' basement. However, the sexual tension is there and the snark is stronger than ever.

5) Kendra doesn't show up at this point.

6) Angel still loses his soul on Buffy's birthday - she was already thinking about having sex with him before the whole Judge thing.

7) Knowing that Cordelia has a thing for him, Angelus stalks her as a way to hurt Buffy. At one point, Xander catches him stalking Cordelia and tries to help - but then Angelus has a new idea. He kidnaps both Xander and Cordelia and locks them in his apartment for whatever sick plan he has. Willow and William arrive to save them only to find them kissing inside - Willow gets hurt and upset.

8) No Judge means no rocket launcher.

9) Willow gets together with Oz in Phases.

10) Jenny and Giles are no longer speaking. William notices how much Giles misses Jenny and tries to help them rekindle their relationship. Angelus - who doesn't have Spike and Dru to amuse him - has more time to stalk Buffy and her friends. So, he stalks William who goes to Jenny's apartment, hears Jenny confessing to William that she's trying to find a spell to bring back Angel's soul.

11) Angelus kills Jenny in Passions.

12) William tells Buffy that Jenny was trying to get Angel back his soul but doesn't know if she figured out a way yet. The floppy disk is still between the desk and the small filing cabinet.

13) Angelus reads about the obelisk with Acathla inside in the newspaper.

14) Kendra arrives to Sunnydale for the first time to deliver the sword and help Buffy stop Angelus. Willow and Buffy, of course, find the floppy disk.

15) Angelus sends a message to Buffy to meet him in the cemetery, but when she goes there she doesn't find him and realizes she's been tricked. She goes back and finds that Angelus has killed Kendra, kidnapped Giles and hurt all of her friends.

16) Giles won't tell Angelus how to pull out the sword even with all the torture, so Angelus kidnaps William and threatens to kill him if Giles doesn't speak. Giles still refuses to talk, so Angelus takes another approach, he tortures Giles in front of William so William caves and tells him how to awaken Acathla.

17) Lover's Walk, after Xander gets upset with Willow for trying to do a de-lusting spell, they fight, hormones are raging, they kiss. Cordelia and Oz catch them kissing in the chemistry lab.


So, is there a flaw in this backstory?
