Yes, Spike is so much worse than Xander (given his behaviour once he fell "in love" with Buffy in particular) yet gets very little loathing. Even now.
 
It may have been interesting. I've always wanted to see a female character be a mentor to a male one. That's a dynamic we don't see as much. Sure we see teams of heroes where women are the leads but that's not the same thing.

I think male Dawn would have worked if they'd made him more of a normal kid who genuinely looked up to Buffy and was a bit of a mommy's boy but in a good way and scared of Spike, rather than thinking he is cool. I think they should have made him sweet as teenage boys and young men can be very affectionate. I definitely would NOT have wanted him to be any of the following cliches we tend to see with teenage male characters.

Fancies every single woman that comes near him. Maybe an innocent crush on one of them is cute, but that's it. Not all teenage boys are sex obsessed.

Makes jokes about wanking.

Drools over Willow and Tara because they're lesbians.

Says duuuuuuuuddde a lot.

Falls in with the wrong crowd of scofflaws who are written like they are from a 1950s high school movie.

Is reckless and can't take being given orders by a girl, but learns about toxic masculinity.

Or worst of all he hates Spike but then Spike sees that they are the same, rebellious people and that's why they don't get along and says he's just like I was at that age.

Euuuuuughhh I hate that cliche so much.

Becomes a Wesley Crusher who is better at everything than the main characters.
 
Would a male Dawn (Alpert) have aided Willow to be heterosexual again?
 
The thought of a male so close to Buffy, he may even have seen Buffy as she got out of the shower.
There could be so many eventualities for humour from Xander,
so he would have become a well liked figure ( that silly Joss missed out on a good one there ).
Can you imagine a male Dawn and Spike being friends? Now that'd make me smile!

I agree, I think they made the right choice. The stories would have taken a dramatic turn into a completely different direction with a boy... like fierce over protectiveness towards Buffy, mind you this could have been an interesting twist!

Well..... S6 & S7 pretty much abandoned the "femminist" aspects of BTVS in favor of the abusive relationships and nasty sex. It's really interesting since the showrunner was now an avowedly feminist woman along with an avowedly feminist man.

Was the form taken by Dawn (female) it anything to do with Glorificus's embodiment on earth being a female?
 
Well, we know Dawn is an incarnation of the Key in the Form of Buffy Summers, or at least that's what I think it happening. My understanding is that the metaphor is between is that Glory represents a future version of Buffy, somehow. I don't think Passion of the Nerd really covered that, or I am unwilling to watch six years worth of episodes to find out if he did. So, a connection between Buffy and Glory would be the logical place to look for a connection.

In world, Glory and the Key have no connection, it's kind of like Loki sailing to Britain with a group of Vikings and deciding to steal Excalibur and the Holy Grail. Glory looks like that because that's how a Idol of the Flesh would look to humans, same as with Jasmine. Dawn looks like Dawn because of Summer's blood, and the key has to be pure, and not a vampire. So, the answer would have to be, it could be, but the show really doesn't give any indication one way or the other.
 
I'm curious if it would be different (to the audience) if Buffy swore to fight to defend her little brother rather than her little sister at the end, even from her own friends and allies if need be. And ultimately gave her life for him.

I'm also curious how Once More With Feeling would've been different.

Do you think the "proper" opposite sex prospect is all it takes to 'fix' the queer?

Maybe the right same sex person could also turn Buffy or Angel gay? Or is it only queerness that "needs" to be "magic fixed"?
