What if Xander was Gay?

Xander never struck me as the gay type. That little aside with Larry in "Phases" was just that, an aside.

But...I did notice that over the course of the series, we didn't see Xander really bond with males as friends. His best friend was, of course, Willow. He had moments of friendship with Oz and with Riley but nothing too deep, wasn't too close to Giles (he annoyed Giles), hated Angel and Spike. The only male that he ever called his "bud" was Jesse, and he was only present for the first two episodes. When it came time to marry Anya, he had no male to be at his side.

He himself says out loud "I need male friends" in "Bargaining Pt. II".

I could imagine the creators of the show experimenting with gay men but I doubt we would have seen any lengthly scenes of them in bed together, as we did Willow and Tara

Nope, i just can't picture Xander as gay at all. Doesn't work for me. Ironically he might be a little too camp! 😀

Why would scott be gay? Cos in Conversations with dead people the vamp buffy was fighting told her he came out in college.

I had a soft spot for Scott Hope back in Season 3. Forlornly, it seems, trying to pursue the unattainable Buffy, she being all complicated and conflicted. I thought "more power to him" when he ended up dumping her rather than the other way around.

So this followup as related by Webs about him thinking she was gay and then coming out himself somewhat turned me off.

I suppose they could have made Xander gay in the later seasons but I think it would have been a more marked change of character than was the case for Willow. Of course what would happen to her was hinted at in S3 "Doppelgangland".

Is that when VAmp Willow came? And she said she think she's gay??!!

Well IF Xander was gay I'd want him to have a relationship with Angel!!!!

The pics of the two in the avis! they look good together!

In "Doppelgangland" Vamp Willow didn't say she was gay but remember in the library scene with her human self Vampire Willow comes on to her. It's such a funny scene-"Does this mean we have to snuggle?" and "Ack, ewww! You are really starting to freak me out!"-some of human Willow's lines. Later when they are locking up Vamp Willow unconscious in the book cage Willow says "It's horrible! That's me as a vampire? So evil and so skanky! And I think I'm kind of gay."

As expressed by Buffy, the vampire is nothing like the human that was. Such is the principle. But I think that in this episode Joss Whedon was deliberately dropping hints about where he'd be going with the Willow character-turning gay, losing herself to evil, etc.

As for Xander having a relationship with Angel, that I can't see. The two guys couldn't stand each other. Neither could Xander and Spike. But I think with the plasticity of James Marsters' character somehow he might have made it halfway believable.

If Xander was gay? Well, then he'd be gay. They probably would have brought on a lover for him like they did with Willow. I do agree, though, that the ratings would have suffered a bit due to homophobia. This was pre-Brokeneck, people, and maybe even pre-Queer as Folk (does anyone know the timeline on that?).

As for Spike and Xander... umm. I can see it, but not as a love thing. More as a sex thing. I mean, they were both pretty randy. And it's been hinted that Spike isn't the straightest guy in the world (hints of a Spike and Angelus past, especially). As for Xander, well, he's been known to follow his hormones more than his heart. Kind of like Xander and Willow. Or Xander and Cordy. Or Xander and Faith. Or even Xander and Anya, in the beginning. Xander was sort of horny, yeah, but he didn't fall in love easily. It would have taken a LOT of time to make Xander and Spike fall in love - time that the series didn't have if it wanted to explore Anya's character and Spike's character as ex-demon moving toward-the-human-side type people. I guess what I'm saying is that even though I could see a gay Xander possibly having sex with Spike, I can't see them being a couple.
