What if Xander was Gay?

So was Willow! in the jossverse anything could happen!

Yeah, but they hinted at Willow's potential for gayness and for dark evilness in early seasons. Even when they hinted at Xander's potential for dark evilness, he was always straight.

That said, it is the Jossverse. Xander has crossed species lines before, what with his demon magnetism. What's a little homosexuality compared to that? When you're dealing with demons on a regular basis, I imagine little things like sexual orientation dwindle in importance so as to become infinitesimal. I can also see Xander going into a tailspin and being like "You know what? No more women. Women date Xander, and then women die. Or turn evil. Or turn evil and then die. I'm like their kryptonite. I'm kryptonite guy!"

Three quotes stand out in my mind about Xander...

Willow: That must be Angel! I think?

Xander: That weird guy that warned her about all the vampires?

Willow: That's him, I'll bet you.

Xander: Well, he's buff! She never said anything about him being buff!

Willow: You think he's buff?

Xander: He's a very attractive man! How come *that* never came up?

then there's ....

XANDER: No one is judging you. It's understandable. Spike is strong and mysterious and sort of compact but well-muscled.

BUFFY: I am not having sex with Spike! But I'm starting to think that you might be

and finally

XANDER
What do you think happened? Another demon woman was attracted to me. (Anya rolls her eyes) I'm going gay. I've decided I'm turning gay. Willow, gay me up. Come on, let's gay.

WILLOW
(softly, a little embarassed) What?

XANDER
You heard me. Just tell me what to do. I'm mentally undressing Scott Bakula right now. That's a start, isn't it?

ANDREW
(wistfully) Captain Archer... (nods)

XANDER
Come on, let's get this gay show on the gay road. Help me out here.

I still think it could happen!

I thought there were more hints at Xander being gay than Willow. Willow only had that comment about her vampire self while Xander had made comments about how attractive Angel and Oz were, falling for girls he can't have, always bottoming (lol), when getting into a good relationship with a woman, he ruins it. All scream that Xander is gay and confused.

Xander/Spike would be one hell of an interesting pairing! *goes to read Spander*

Ok. You guys have convinced me. Ample hints of Xander latent gayness, too. Maybe he's bisexual? I couldn't see him just going for men. I mean, he was in an apparently very steamy relationship with Anya for years. He's gotta like the ladies, too. But, yeah, maybe he's got some heretofore repressed homosexual attraction going to on. And maybe it could be brought to the fore at some point. And maybe it would be totally totally funny if it was with Spike. Heck, I'd watch -- if anything, I'd watch just to see Buffy's reaction. It would be priceless.

Personally I think it would be comic gold! couldn't one of Willows spells go wrong and poof!(no pun inteneded) Spander!!!

Poof! Haha! Yes - too funny. Spuffy started with a Willow spell. Why not Spander?
I don't mind if Xander stayed straight, but for one episode, Willow screws up a spell and then we see Xander and Spike in love. lol

I love Willow/Tara so I obviously would neve have wanted to go the Xander way, but seriously, I don't think it would have worked. I loved the seven-year joke of that people constantly kept suggesting that Xander was gay-
[Beauty and the Beasts
Xander: I can handle Oz full monty [Willow looks at him] I mean not handle hands to flesh handle!

Intervention
Buffy: [After Xander has described Spikes good qualities] I am not sleeping with Spike but I'm beginning to think *you* are

And then of course there was the whole Larry thing where Larry thinks he's gay]

-and the joke would have only been funny if Xander remained straight. Otherwise it would have been like 'oh there were the hints'. but we instead have Xander tying to prove how hetero he is for seven years.

Yeah I know waht you mean. In dawson's creek Pacey used to tease his brother about being gay for pretty much the whole series, Doug always denied it but the suddenly in the finale he is dating Jack! It was so stupid like the writers couldn't think of anything else to do.

oh yeah- I remember that storyline! it did kinda ruin all the teases/jokes. It made them too literal and serious in retrospect
Frenchy Faith agrees: Hmm not really... cause if you look at figures of gay ppl being injured or beat up for being gay, they're mostly guys.
Two years after I wrote that post, lol. Let me explain what I meant. I know that gay men are physically abused – by other men – to another extent that gay woman. Just like all men are – by other men – if you don't count women getting beat up by their boyfriends/husbands, which is of course less of an issue for lesbians. Homosexual men are also a threat to masculinity, which is a reason they get beaten up by other men.

So I agree. But what I meant was that men are the norm in our society, "even" in the "gay world". If you say "gay" or "homosexual" most people will associate that with a gay/homosexual man. Just like gay men are represented in media (tv shows/movies/etc.) way more than lesbians.

An example of this is that the we had the Sthlm film festival here a few weeks back, where they had a "gay evening" showing gay movies. They showed four or five movies, all about gay men. When my friend emailed them complaining about this, the film festival informed my friend that there were no lesbian movies. Which is of course bullshit, there are lesbian movies, just not half as many as movies focused on gay men. Also, the biggest problem, they probably hadn't even realized that gays don't have to be male, and that only showing movies about gay men at a "gay evening" could be a problem.

If Xander was gay, then he'd be gay. I dunno, it's all the same. But that would mean no Willow and Tara and I would reallllllly miss that.

We wouldn't have known about Tara, maybe Willow would have been with a guy who we'd like so much (like Oz) that we can't picture Willow gay, and we'll be upset that if Willow was gay and Xander was straight that we'll lose their boyfriends whom we like so much.

On a point of information...

Sorry but I joined this forum purely to write this post.

In the episode The Wish, there is a clear gay vibe coming from Xander when it comes to torturing Angel whilst he's in the cage.
A quote from Xander from this episode "We love all the parts..."

In the Episode "The Triangle" when xander and Spike are talking there's a definite buddy chemistry when they are talking about girls. I believe I read a slashy fic where the conversation was used to believably put a spin on a relationship the two had already built (during the story), whilst Xander was STILL with Anya. Why has this possibility not been brought up? Xander could have been "corrupted" by Spike, had an affair and it could have been a long running thing up to "Hells Bells" where Xander leaves Anya at the altar, would have been exact same show, with a bit more homoerotisism, a tad more kissing...

If Oz had stayed it might have been possible that Joss would have kept everything the same, still had Tara come on the show as Willow's witchy friend etc etc.

In "Phases" there are a lot of issues explored... the clue is in the name of the episode. Larry comes out, he also DIES at the end of Season 3, which whilst reading across the boards a lot of people appear to have forgotten. Another thing I've noticed across the boards is the fact people seem unwilling to discuss the possibility and go on about homosexuality itself... kinda not the point?

To be honest I've always liked the idea of Spander, there's a tonne of sexual tension just waiting to burst between them. The quotes are numerous and not so obvious.

Yeah yeah I know this is a WAYYYYY old post, but it frustrated me and I'm going through a buffy obsession relapse at the moment... I'd say the world would be more ready for this now then it was back then...

If you only joined to make this pointless comment, you obviously need to read more anyway, I think it was a waste of your time and ours because your post is absolute rubbish

I don't get your point with the Larry thing. What are you trying to say about his death? Are you saying it was related to his homosexuality?

At least we have proof now that the karma bar can go red, after all. Myth confirmed. :lmao:

I never doubted that BUT I am surprised, dare I say pleased, that I take so much:)
Not that I'm surprised, but evidently you didn't read what I put.

The point about Larry is that he died, I have read a lot of posts where people have said that he and xander could have happened in the 4th season.

As much as it doesn't surprise me that a community will attack anyone who makes a valid point which doesn't necesarilly conform to the concensus. Which i have. So, unless you can actually point out anything else in my post which makes no sense apart from the, perhaps, badly structured Phases point, please do...

And to state finally: just because I don't have a picture of a Buffy character or a flaming graphic as my signature, doesn't make my point any less valid. The ramble, as you so boldy put it, might have some gramatical errors, but it is hardly unstructured. I was making points based on the OP, which 70% of this thread seems to not have even read. However you seem to dislike new members, so I'll take my leave.

Good for you 🙂

What valid point?
You came onto Buffy-Boards, apparently annoyed, at something and all we seem to get is that Larry died from you.
There is no disagreement with that, its the pointless windbaggery of the rest of the post where you huff and puff but fail to blow out any kind of point.

What does Larry, a minor character not even in the leagues of Johnathans, sexuality have to do with anything.

Are you suggesting that Joss is anti Man-Man love?

Or are you suggesting that the boards are anti man-man love?
What?
Your entire post makes no sense BUT what you did do is attack us as a community for no reason.

There are PLENTY of members without sigs and avs BUT we still embrace them because they do something you didn't do - leave coherent posts.
Heck, we even have members that bitch other members that aren't well liked BUT we still acknowledge them when they make good posts - hint hint.

Honestly, if all you're gonna do is make pointless observations that make no sense and don't explain THEN get pissy when we call you on it, well I think this community is better off without you.

Good riddance.

Chakraking: Is your point that Larry died because he's gay? I didn't get that vibe anywhere; he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Lots of people died. Harmony got turned, not because she was mean, but because she happened to get grabbed by a vampire (which did lead to some awesome hijinks).

But if that was your point, that Joss & Co. are homophobic because Larry died and that's why Xander wasn't ever gay, then I disagree with you.

Neither point stands up - he seems to be just whining.

But, what is this point that goes against the consensus that you are making? All of your points about the gay jokes and Xander weren't exactly going against the topic - most people recognised that they were there. Everyone knows that Joss originally wasn't sure whether he was going to have Willow or Xander come out, so there was groundwork laid for both. Are you saying Xander was gay? Cause you don't seem to be making that point either.

The only point you distinguished as being "controversial" was the one about Larry. So he died. That's a big deal how, exactly? Because people wanted to ship him with Xander circa S4? Hardly community shattering. I don't get what you're trying to say.

Edit:
Edmund Blackadder agrees: You know, you really should't call him a reta...😛

Stop putting things in my mouth you!

Joss is clearly against straight people, I mean seriously, just look at how many straight people died on the show.

:hanged: <---- straight people. May they rest in peace.
