What Is Charmed Always "Put" With BtVs And AtS

I've noticed alot quite recently that Charmed is always "put in the same pile" as Buffy and Angel. When I say "PUT" I dont mean like there both fantsay drama type things. But I watch all three shows and dont see why Charmed is with BtVs and Ats when it's completely different show with different mythology etc. What are your ideas?

I guess its cuz its a succesful supernatural drama, and so are *cough-were-cough* Buffy and Angel...
Thats the only reason I can think of...
 
maybe because to the viewing public they look to be the only things remotly simular to one another, there have be parnormal supernatrul shows (psyfactor, poltergyst, etc) but none that I can recall were people directly fighting demons as the shows main thing, I don't think Charmed or the Buffyverse have anything in common but they are my moms favorite three shows and she puts them together in a clump as if they did, and my brother not only thinks they do but said Charmed is Better than Buffy and Angel... I didn't get that but to each their own right.
 
I kind of see your point though, Xander. Charmed is hardly in the same class as the Whedonverse, so it's kind of insulting really.

The Whedonverse should be it's own genre. :: red dev
 
Because they are occult shows. They are supernatural and they have to deal with demons. Thats the best I could come up with.Dont diss Charmed!
 
I agree with the fact that they are all occult shows but Buffy and Angel are on totally different levels. They teach philosophy classes on Buffy and I've read so many books about the deeper meanings of both shows. There is just a lot that you can take from BtVS and ATS that you can't get from Charmed, who doesn't reach that higher level. I don't mean that in a bad way, but I do enjoy the metaphorical and philosophical elements of BTVS and ATS better than the solely entertaining purpose of Charmed.
 
I agree, it's only because all three are supernatural dramas dealing with demon fighting and the like. The thing that gets me is (and I'm not dissing Charmed. I watch it religiously, just as I did with Buffy and Angel) that the writing on Charmed is so much less full and intense as it was on the other two. Imagine if Charmed was produced by Joss instead of Aaron Spelling ... It would be tons better than it is now ... I don't know if that had any relevance to the topic, I just think it's interesting to think about.
 
Yeah, I agree with you. I wish they would bring some Buffy/Angel to Charmed. The writing is getting pretty weak. Though I am still a big Charmed fan. Seasons 3 and 4 were the strongest. Buffy and Angel both had such intensity, chemistry, and charisma. I hope season 7 revives the show's good qualities.
 
I am trying to figure that out myself. I know a lot of Charmed fans that are hardcore Buffy/Angel fans. I think its because the majority of Charmed fans like the Whedonverse. Though when naming the genres Charmed will never be as good as Buffy and Angel. It will not reach the level of them. Come on, it is produced by Spelling. The guy who gave the world 90120. I hate that show.

It would be just like comparing 90210 to a show with a deeper meaning like "My So-Called Life". Aaron Spelling isn't known for creating shows that provoke deep thought. And not only did he bring us 90210, but don't forget about the Love Boat!!! hehe
 
Yeah but when you have shows like Charmed, or Sabrina: The Teenaged Witch in the same group as Buffy or Angel, doesn't it feel like a bit of a lie?

Isn't kind of like saying popsicles are the same as Cherries Jubilee, because they're both sweet, and edible?
 
Oh Ok, now I getcha. I watched Charmed when it first came out, but that was way back in High School, so after a season or two, it just got a little corny for me. Plus I like the way witchcraft is depicted in Buffy better.

It would have been interesting to see on Buffy what would have happened with the Rule of 3 ( I don't remember the exact name) that was shown in the movie "The Craft". Like if everything Willow did came back at her three-fold...that would have made season six very different.
 
I watched Buffy from the beginning. So when I saw Charmed I didn't really compare the two. They are just 2 shows dealing with supernatural phenomenas, same universal rules or not. I mean I don't see the big deal if they are catergorized in the same genre. It's not really like it brings down the quality of the shows. The shows records speak for themselves (ratings, awards, etc.).
 
Charmed is always put with Buffy and Angel because it started out on the wb, and its another supernatural(used to be) drama. Buffy and Charmed were constantly going back and forth as the 2nd-3rd most watch show on TheWB.

Ofcourse now Charmed is purly written and the only thing that keeps it on air is its ratings and nothing else really. And they use a lot of sex appeal.
 
I used to really love Charmed, but since S3 I don't even bother watching it anymore. It should be cancelled at put out of it's misery. It seems at the moment to only thing that is saving Charmed from cancellation is the fact all the cast members are hot.

Anyway, back to the topic. Charmed has never (and will never) be as thought-provoking as Angel and Buffy. The Buffyverse is kind of never-ending, and the world of Charmed isn't. As someone said before, there are college courses etc on Buffy, that would never happen with Charmed.
 
what always baffled me is why TheWB(before Angel) never tried Charmed to be after Buffy on New Tuesdays. They put Charmed and Angel together and that was good.
 
Also, could it be because...it mainly targets the same demographic, and shows that target the same demographic are often lumped together....?
 
I attempted to watch charmed a couple of times this week, but couldn't stomach it. Its' nothing relatable. Atleast Buffy and Angel although they had supernatural stories, the themes were that the average young person can relate to.
