What Is Charmed Always "Put" With BtVs And AtS

as a dedicated charmed watcher and buffy/angel fan i must say that charmed has went downhill since season 3. though i still watch the show it's not b/c it's educational it's just because i have grown to like paige, other than that i don't watch it.
angel has more depth to it and gets the creative juices flowing much like how the writers are crerative with eveyr arch and every storyline ever produced(on both buffy and angel). while charmed has lost many of it's viewers due to the decline in character development and story lines.Charmed is a great show but i would never put it in the same category ad buffy or angel and i would never say that it has any theological impact what so ever,. It's a show with sex appeal, and that's about it.If one of the girls wasn't getting laid in everyother eppy no one would watch it, it would probably be cancelled by now.

It would have been interesting to see on Buffy what would have happened with the Rule of 3 ( I don't remember the exact name) that was shown in the movie "The Craft". Like if everything Willow did came back at her three-fold...that would have made season six very different.

One of the reasons I always thought Charmed, Angel, and Buffy were grouped together was because they all take place in supernatural Californian cities. Oh yeah. LA? Totally supernatural.
 
It s just because they target the same supernatural audience and they are supernatural shows, so they group them together. They are very different but on the surface they may look the same to some people. I also don't think Charmed should be on the same level like TNT promotes it with Angel but it is. Its an Aaron Spelling show so obvioulsy its not the same, but oh well.
 
I pretty much said the same thing as you Britt...so i agree...except I used a bigger word...demographic...lol...but IMO Angel and Buffy are the stronger shows...Charmed doesn't compare and shouldn't get grouped with it...don't get me wrong...I will watch Charmed...although it doesn't bother me if I miss it...but Buffy and Angel are by far the better shows....the audience can relate better to them....and they have a better story line IMO....
 
I honestly think their fan bases are different. I believe the Buffyverse attracts a wider variety of fans from the younger fans who take the show at face value and up to older fans and philosophical minds who read deeper into the show. I think once you've reached the age of 16, Charmed just becomes too corny. IMO only.
 
I must be honust, I started watching Buffy and Angel kinda 'cause of Charmed. I agree the shows are very diffrent, Buffy and Angel have there own catagory all by themselfs. Charmed can get a bit corny at times, I agree, but thats kinda why I like it. Demons, witches, supernatural stuff, etc.
 
I just kinda take to the occult theme more when its taken more seriously. Stuff like Sabrina the Teenage Witch and movies/tv shows along that line don't interest me. But stuff like "The Craft" is another story.
 
Charmed was inspired by shows like Buffy and Angel.

Which is also where Alias and Dark Angel came from 🙂

I understand why you say that it is nothing like Buffy as I love Charmed just as much as BTVS and Angel but after watching a few episodes of Charmed and then watching Buffy you can really notice that Charmed is nothing like Buffy.

For one thing Charmed focuses on sisterly bonds etc whereas Buffy is more about growing up and the trials life throws at you.

That's pretty much the basic gist of Buffy. They use allegorical examples to show the trials and tribulations of growing up. In the one of the Commentaries I saw on my Buffy DVD's one of the producers stated they would create monsters to represent the problems of Buffy & the Scoobies at that time. Even though Buffy does not live the normalest of lives, she experiences similar emotions and events as we non-slayers would.

Charmed is about sisterly bonds I guess, but Buffy shows that family can be just about anyone you let into your heart.
 
Yea Buffy is about that metaphor of life and friends while Charmed mainly focuses on family and sisters. So that i guess would be the main difference.
 
I have one serious problem with CHARMED - not only do the sisters still maintain a adolescent view of morality after six years, they have a tendency to be hypocritical. Rather odd, considering their characters are older than the ones on BUFFY. Take their view on demons, for instance. I found this definition of the word - demon or "daemon":

"The words daemon and daimon are distinctive Greek spellings of demon used purposely today to distinguish the daemons of Greek mythology, good or malevolent "supernatural beings between mortals and gods, such as inferior divinities and ghosts of dead heroes", from the Judeo-Christian usage demon, "a malignant spirit that can possess humans". The Greek translation of the Septuagint, made for the use of Hellenized Jews in Alexandria, and the usage of daimon in the New Testament's original Greek text, effected an application of the Greek word to a Judeo-Christian spirit by the early 2nd century CE. Then in Late Antiquity, these pagan conceptions and exorcisms, part of the cultural atmosphere, were seamlessly transmitted to Christian beliefs and exorcism rituals. The transposition has recently been documented in detail, in North Africa, by Maureen Tilley (see Links).

For Greeks and Romans, daemons ("replete with knowledge", "divine power", "fate" or "god") were not necessarily evil. Socrates claimed to have a daimon that warned him and gave him advice but never coerced him into following it. It's a shame that unlike the writers of BUFFY and ANGEL, the writers of CHARMED has never utilized this concept of demons (or should I say . . . daemons). I wonder why.
