What is the ONE worst thing that happened on the show?

I know, I know. There have been several terrible events that have occurred over the years on this show.

Youur mission is to name the ONE horrible thing that you think is the worst. The one that you'll never forget, and still sets fire to your emotions..

I'll list a few, but feel free to add the ones which are missing.

Forever, my answer will be Faith having sex with Buffy's body without Buffy's consent and Faith tricking Riley into having sex with Buffy's body without Buffy's consent.
 
For me, more so at the time that it is now, was spikes attempted rape on Buffy, there were other moments too, but at that time this one stood out most for me
 
How Robin was treated in Lies my parents told me because the writers wanted us to side against him for reasons that weren't good enough. At least in all of those other situations the villain was identified correctly.
 
Obviously the attempted rape; since afterwards Buffy was then asked to deal with taking care of somebody who looked, acted and spoke like the man who did it and who in turn blames her for their crappy relationship; the whole thing took YEARS to be gotten over and no wonder (according to the comics that is).

I wouldn've chosen Tara's murder except 6/7 months after the fact nobody has mentioned her name and Willow's dating somebody else.

The spike issue at the time was something completely unexpected for what Buffy was, and probably could have gone without, but since it's been spoke about so much it's not something that I would debate as much now but still something I would have preferred not seeing
 
I chose Xander leaving Anya at the alter. Cowardly, after all she went through to please his girlfriend fantasies. The rest mentioned had a point to the event. This didnt.

I never understood how the fandom could be so dismissive of her suffering because of it.

Angel experienced one night of perfect happiness and then it was torn away from him and he has to live knowing he can't have it again until his death.

Well, Buffy experienced 148 days of perfect happiness and then it was torn away from her and she has to live knowing she can't have it again until her death.

So Buffy lost Angel (who is just as much her perfect happiness as she is for him) AND she lost Heaven.

Not that it changes much but slight alteration in bolded :

I agree pulling Buffy out of heaven was horrible. She should be able to "to back to it" when the time comes though. Angel is basically just going to live knowing he can't ever be happy, until he dies and then has to be tortured in hell forever.

This show doesn't make me sound like the atheist I am at all lol.

I said until death since soulmates probably go to the same afterlife. Although he thought he was Hellbound because of the Angelus guilt.
How Buffy was treated after she returned from running away after the fight with Angelus and Drusilla.

Buffy is lured into a trap by Angelus and then
1. Returns to the library to find Kendra dead, Giles kidnapped, Xander with a broken arm, and Willow unconscious
2. Is accused of murdering Kendra and chased by the police
3. Is forced to enter into an alliance with the evil Spike
4. Reveals her true self to her mother, who kicks her out of the house.
5. Is not told by Xander going into the fight that Willow is still trying to restore Angel's soul
6. Fails to stop the portal from opening
7. Realizes Angel's soul has been restored too late
8. Is forced to impale Angel through the chest with a magic sword and kick him into hell

So she's homeless, expelled, falsely accused of murder and trying to cope with the fact one of her friends was killed, three more were nearly killed, and she had to kick her one true love into hell to save the world because she failed to stop the portal from opening.

But nobody lets her get a word in when she tries to explain it.

I really hated Joyce in this episode. It's one of the few episodes where I don't think of her as a good mom or a good person.

"If you leave this house don't even think about coming back."

The one really wrong thing Joyce said in Becoming. I didn't see it as Joyce kicking Buffy out- she just said the wrong thing and drove Buffy to leave and not come back (for awhile anyway). I don't hate Joyce in this episode I really felt for her. There was the best acting of Sarah & Kristine together in Becoming!

As much as I hate Xander for leaving Anya at the altar, it doesn't compare to Spike trying to rape Buffy in Seeing Red! That is the worst of the worst.

Although Angelus murdering Jenny was also pretty much the worst.

Closely followed by the AR in 2nd place. I find that choice of scene and placement of it to be rather odd within the context of the narrative.
 
I also get annoyed when Buffy acts like she hasn't killed humans before, or moralizes to others about it.

She knocked that zookeeper into the hyena pit in "The Pack"
She kills a human Order of Taraka assassin with an ice skate in "What's My Line?"
She fully intended to bring Faith back to Angel to be drained and killed in "Graduation Day"
She kills at least one, maybe as many as ten, of the Knights of Byzantium in "Spiral"
She straight up tells her friends that she'll kill anyone who comes near Dawn in "The Gift"

Can I go with Seeing Red as a bundle of awfulness? Later, I have come to appreciate the episode and its place in the season arc, but damn! it was a hard first watch.

Buffy did NOT knock the zookeeper into the hynea pit. He charged at her, trying to kill her, and she used his momentum to knock him down. As soon as she realized he was going to get killed by the hyneas, she tried to pull him up to save his life but was unsuccessful.

We don't know if the Tarakan assassin was human. All we know is he came up behind her, started strangling her, didn't flich seeing Angel in vamp face, and injured Angel. She killed him in self defence.

Faith was actively trying to orchestrate the murder of 40,000 people and shot Angel with a deadly poison in which the antitode was in her own veins.

The Knights were attacking them. It was active combat in a kill or be killed situation. Had she not fought them, all of the Scoobies would be dead. The knights were shooting arrows at them and had swords. Or the Knights would've been killed by Willow, still in self defence.

Do you actually think Buffy would've killed any of them after the ritual started? Look at Buffy's face on the tower. It was grief and despair because she knew she had to let Dawn die and then utter relief realizing their blood was similar enough to spare her. Had one of them (we all know it would've been Rupert "this is the way wars are won" Giles) tried to murder 15 year old Dawn to prevent the ritual from ever beginning, Buffy would be justified in killing them to protect her.

Buffy is against killing for pleasure, greed, and vengeance.
