Theres something very special about season finales as we all hold our breath waiting to see how Buffy and co will despatch of the latest Big Bad!! Plus the Joss writing and directing factor is always a big bonus (except for Grave!)
Prophecy Girl - its the first finale and so is special in the way that Chosen is special because it is the last. I love Prophecy Girl. Xander having to save Buffy because Angel can't, Buffy in her dress, Cordelia and Jenny fighting with the Scoobies and Buffy's I'm 16, I don't wanna die. That really touched me.
Becoming is just so tragic! Even though I wasn't a big fan of Buffy and Angel it was still hard to watch them tear each other apart. It's horrible to watch Buffy sad and the end of the season has a very depressing note. The sword fight is pretty cool though and I love when Buffy grabs the sword thrust at her head. Willow also rocks in this finale - the real start of the magick which will be so important in the later years. Also seeing Jenny again is brilliant, even if it is only Dru in disguise!
Also great that Joyce finds out about Slayerhood and Spike and Dru survive! Although Kendra had only been a minor character I still found her death tragic.
Graduation Day - I love how the whole school works together. Buffy and Faith's fight is very intense and the dream sharing is great. I love that they blow up the school - every kids dream lol.
I think that even though Angel leaves, which was a good thing the season ended on a happy note. However I love how the consequences are addressed later on in the series with Larry dead, Faith awakening from her coma, Harmony sired.
Restless - I love Restless, especially the first time watching it and thinking wtf! I think that Restless has immediate appeal but is more of a slow burner style finale as something new can be understood every time it is watched. It really gets you thinking and questioning the meaning of dreams within Buffy and dreams generally.
The Gift is truly epic. It has everything. All characters excel. We get Buffy making the ultimate sacrifice (and looking at some of her most beautiful while she does it!) This episode also marked my appreciation for Dawn as she was prepared to make the utimate sacrifice. Afterwards I had respect for Dawn even when she was at her most annoying!
Spike was amazing when talking to Buffy saying he knows she'll never love him.
One of the most important things to me was Willow getting Tara's mind back because I wasn't sure if Tara would be back to 'normal'.
It was also very interesting yet disturbing to see Giles murder Ben and who cant love Xander and Anya in this episode.
The previously on BtVS was amazing and the teaser was perfect especialyy as it was nothing to do with The Gift!
Grave is my least favourite finale but the scene between Willow and Xander at the end is beautiful. It is also great to see Dawn swordslay. It's nice that after such a dark season that the season ends in a positive way. With Buffy and Dawn crawling at the grave and into the sunlight, Willow back to red and in Xander's arms, Giles surviving and Xander being the hero.
I do love that the season both begins and ends with Buffy coming out of a grave. First in horror and darkness but then in happiness and light.
Chosen is my favourite finale because after two years if darker stories it was great to have 'real Buffy' back. It was epic in every sense of the word and was a fitting end to the series. Every character was given screentime and at least one cool line! The reassertion of the female empowerment theme through all potentials becoming Slayers is beautiful and the destruction of one girl in every generation is breaking the rules in the most beautiful way!!
