The Gift. As much as I really like some of the things that followed in seasons 6 and 7, I cannot shake the feeling that they had the perfect ending for Buffy's character in that episode. It is pretty much the perfect way to end her story, and the rest of the finales can't really compete with that.
 
You know, while I personally really like "The Gift", and I think it works tremendously for super-fans of the show, for the casual fan it's a bit of a downer. I re-watched Buffy with my parents about a year or so ago, they'd never seen it before, and both of them, while saying it was alright, thought "The Gift" wasn't overly amazing or anything. When I asked them why, I'd always thought of it as just incredible, they both said that it had a bad ending. That while Buffy going out was certainly heroic, it ended the series on a hugely depressive note (I didn't tell them that there were two more seasons until after we'd seen the S5 finale).

I found that interesting, getting a perspective from just a regular fan.

Becoming is my favorite too.

Not often I'm sitting in front of the TV thinking - wow, that's good TV.
But I seriously did just that at the end of season 2.

The Gift is amazing within the context of the S5, but as an individual episode in itself I don't think it's anything special. If I were to watch the episode just by itself without any knowledge of the pain and hardship Buffy had gone through in S5 (The Body - losing Joyce, Dawn, Buffy's catatonic trauma - Weight of the World, Glory etc) her speech at the end about "live, for me" just wouldn't have as much impact as if I were to watch the episode as a stand-alone.

Becoming is completely different - I think that episode got me properly hooked on Buffy. A casual viewer can watch this episode and get so much out of it.. So I'd go with Becoming (both parts) as my favourite, followed by Graduation Day (Part 1 is better - the Buffy/Faith fight is epic!), followed by Restless, then The Gift, Grave, Prophecy Girl, with Chosen last. Which is a shame, but after a poor S7, the episode just doesn't really do much for me these days.
 
I went with The Gift. It truly was a perfect ending after 5 years spent with BtVS. Not only that, but even though the premises was depression, I find the ending so peaceful, almost happy. Buffy is finally delivered from her burden and the gang can move on. Tara and Willow get a happy ending, so does Xander and Anya, Dawn is "adopted" by two people that she loves. Spike can go on his own journey and his obsessive love is not overused like in s6, there's actually a glimmer of hope for his character's future as he's reminded what it's like to be treated humanely. Giles can return to England and go on to his life, his job is also over.

To me, aside from Buffy dying, the future of every character is beautiful and full of hopes. As much as I love Chosen, we leave the serie with broken friendships, both Xander and Willow lost their loved ones, Giles and Buffy's relationship is basicly over, Dawn will keep living in her sister's shadow while remaining pretty much useless. To me The Gift has such an overall positive ending. It's probably one of the most beautiful "ending" I've seen of any TV show.

That being said I'm very glad the serie didn't end with s5 since s6 is my favorite 😀

My favorite one is "The Gift". It has everything in it for me...beauty,loss,emotion,drama,finality,poetry,heroic sacrifice and selfless love. Its a spectacular ending to a spectacular thrilling season. It is one of the episodes of BTVS that still makes me as emotional today as when i first watched it,it never gets old and it always causes tears.
 
Graduation Day and Becoming are both equal for me, but I chose Graduation Day in the poll.
Ugh, that last scene in Graduation Day where Buffy and Angel are staring at each other across the parking lot still gets me every time.
