1) It's best to catch the audience off guard by using cliches to your advantage, subvert them when least expected

2) make the stories personal and relatable, basing scenes off of events in your life helps

3) try adding layers to the dialogue

4) make the audience feel something, whether its joy, sadness or laughter (mostly sadness)
