What Made You Happy Today Thread (#8)

Finding free sheet music online and renewing my pianofiles account. GAH I love new sheet music. I love playing my flute. I haven't done this in way too long.

Also Charlotte (my flute) says hi to you guys! (yes, I name my instrument and she has a personality, it's different from my other flute (Christy)'s personality and I'm not a freak, just a band geek)

EDIT: hahah I rhymed. Not intentionally mind you... but I rhymed. I'm BA.

YAY!!! Someone else who names their instruments! And she's a flutist. This also made me happy! 😀

Agree (just karma'd you, so I must SAY agree...)! Nobody not in band seems to know how instruments have a lot of different personalities. Like, Mirta is a total trooper and could probably go through hell, and Greta is picky about who can play her, and for some reason Galatea doesn't like high notes until I've been playing for at least thirty minutes, she only plays low at first no matter how much I practice.

Yay for flautists!

Christy's a tough bitch. She reminds me of Faith. She's... she's crazy. And she's really.. she could also go through hell... she's also really stubborn and sometimes just WON'T play something... could be a note, could be a rhythm... and it could be just that one time... I could not play something on her and try on Chrarlotte and it's perfect. Charlotte is a sweetie... but sometimes she gets a temper. If I play her too long she starts to act up and if I ignore her too long she has a temper for the first ten to twenty minutes I'm playing her...

I don't let anyone else play my instruments after Katie (my flute before Christy) got stolen in middle school. Katie was amazing. You couldn't learn to play on a better flute. She was loyal and sweet and understanding. If I didn't do something right, it still generally sounded ok. And she never got impatient like Charlotte and Christy. I miss her dearly. Don't get me wrong I love Charlotte and Christy, they're my babies... but I miss Katie.

Mirta is great, we just have this rift between us because she broke in my third year of playing, and I knew it. I took her to my band director to be repaired, he said it was just my bad playing.

A year later, my section leader tries her out, realizes she's broken, and I have to switch to another flute (my mother's) for half a year. She's never really gotten over it, even though she plays like a dream still.

Galatea and Greta are both made of crystal glass, and not traditional, so naturally they are extremely picky.

and I've never played a crystal glass flute. that must be beautiful.

It is, and extremely difficult. You have to make your lips buzz a little more than normal, it's tuned in a completely different key, and making any note sharp or flat is absolute murder because there are no buttons, it's open hole. Plus, you're always paranoid that you're gonna drop it.

My mother got them and gave them to me because she always intended to learn how to play flute, but never did. Since I knew, I can actually use them.

They're much prettier in real life, believe it or not.

Think I heard a radio programme about the glass flute a year or two back. Mozart (I think) wrote something for it but listening to it (or playing it) was supposed to drive you insane!
I woke up with a headache, but it's gone away.

My new cockatiel is more comfortable, and I've had him out of his cage for awhile now, and he only flew away once. He's sitting on my shoulder and being so sweet. 🙂

I got called into work, said no, but found someone who could come in ('cause I'm a gym class hero or something).

Today a good friend of mine Christy made my day 🙂 She can always seem to put a smile on my face no matter what. I thank god for putting her in my life everyday 🙂

Felt too tired to read most of today, so instead I've watched two episodes each of Angel S4, Buffy S4 and Dollhouse S1.

And I solved a problem with my Kindle all by myself.

I am suddenly grateful that I can only play "Joy To The World" on the glass flute. ^^

In other news, I am officially one of the founding officers of Future Educators of America at my school. Before, I was just a founding member, but I was elected secretary. I'm so happy!
 
I've had a rubbish weekend but remembering I had some alcohol in the fridge cheered me right up. I don't drink that much but it was a nice little pick me up. 🙂
