What Made You Watch?

Buffy: I saw the ad on tv advertising a new vampire show so naturally I watched it from the begining and was hooked from the begining. No exciting story for me i'm afraid lol.

Angel: Well it was a spin off from my fav Tv show so that was a no brainer, I was going to watch it.

Firefly: Never really got that into it, I need to watch it from the begining really.

Dollhouse: Saw the hype online about the show and watched it online. Darn glad I did but then I give most things a go that Joss is involved with. And, I love ELiza.

I watched my first episode of Buffy (I'd seen the odd scene or two before, but never actually sat down to watch it) by chance - some friends and I were just flipping through channels to see if there was anything on. We found 'Innocence', and I was completely hooked. This was back when the show was first airing (in the UK) so I just followed it as it aired. When Angel got his own show, I started watching that as well. Firefly and Dollhouse followed naturally - I loved Buffy and Angel, so I figured I'd try Joss Whedon's other shows as well.

Dollhouse: Joss
Firefly: Joss
Angel: It was connected to Buffy
Buffy: Spuffy, sort of. I used to catch glimpses of episodes when I was little and my mom was watching, but I’d forgotten about it until a couple years ago. I have no idea how, but I ended up watching a couple of clips on Youtube. And something about Spike/Buffy just intrigued me. Also, I admit I was impressed that they could get away with as graphic a scene as the end of Smashed on the show. So it was Spuffy that sparked a “huh” in me. But I went to bed without any plans for furtherness. Until the next morning when I randomly woke up convinced I had to see this whole series from start to finish, not for Spuffy, just because. It was seriously like someone was telling me to do it, the feeling was so strong. Thankfully we just happened to be going to visit my aunt who had all the episodes recorded on tape that day.

Buffy was just one of the cool shows everyone watched back then at school. I watched my first episode in s6, and back then, on the original German run, it was pretty big in Germany among teens (esp girls I think) my age.
Angel I wachted because I ran out of Buffy episodes at somepoint and needed my Buffyverse fix.
And well, DOllhouse was just the cool new thing everyone was watching here last year. I guess the same could be said about Firefly, but back then I wsn't really immersed in the Buffy fan world, so I missed that hype.

Okay, here is the long version... 😉
I kept hearing about Buffy on another forum, but I didn't care about it. Just didn't sounded like something I would like 😱

Then someone started a thread about Firefly, asking if other had seen it and all that.
That discussion got my interest, it sounded like a super cool show so I got the DVD's and absolutely loved it.

Around the same time I also started to watch Charmed. The Donnas was playing in one episode and I watch anything with them. 🙂
Was very suprised to see that I really liked it, never thought I would like a show like that.

That made think about Buffy again, considering how great Firefly was and that I apparently could like other kind of shows than I had watched so far.
So I got season 1 of Buffy and got hooked after a minute or so... got all the other seasons and watched it straight through and then straight through again.
Now I totally get what all others was talking about earlier, made me feel stupid for ignoring them. Will never do that again regardning any show.

Angel felt natural after Buffy of course.

Dollhouse, another Joss show. Will always give his shows a chance in the future.

/SK

Buffy: (after the whole series was over) It was on every morning before school, and I thought it looked interesting, so I started watching it! [end of what made me watch] Just really random episodes. After about a year of this I got bored, and sick of missing the ends of episodes, so I went to Hastings and bought... Season 6! I got it cause of OMWF, and S6 is still my favorite season to this day. Then I got S1, and stopped for a while, then got back into it and bought all the other seasons.
Angel: It happened to be on (S4) TBS in the morning when I was really into Whedon stuff, so I decided to start watching it.
Firefly: Joss made it, so I bought it.
Dollhouse: Joss made it, so I watched it.

Buffy - The ads wasn't all bad and it started just as I came home each day too tired to do anything else but slack in front of the tv. And I only had 3 channels at the time so not much else on.
Angel - If you like Buffy it feels strange not to watch it.
Firefly - An online friend recommended it and offered to send it to me so I watched it and fell in love.
Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog - I know it wasn't mentioned. But at this point I was definitely a fan of Joss. I had joined this board. Otherwise I probably wouldn't even have heard of it. So it was the most natural thing to watch it.
Dollhouse - Joss alone was a good enough reason to give it a try and with Eliza in the lead there were no question about it. I'm glad I watched it all through and I love the second season. The first is ok but too uneven. So I can't help but wonder if I'd continued watching if it wasn't for Joss or Eliza.

And now I'm getting mad at FOX again since I want more Firefly and Dollhouse. Oh well. A little is better than nothing. And they did give Dollhouse a second season after all.

I was having an argument with someone on a Torchwood forum, which dissolved into discussing what types of sci-fi/fantasy we liked. He asked if I'd seen Buffy, because the type of show I described was apparently exactly like it. I said I hadn't, but it made me decide to give it a go, so I got S2 on DVD for Christmas 2008 (S2 because it had more episodes than S1 at the same price). I loved "When She Was Bad", was hooked at "School Hard" and became addicted at "Innocence". I bought S3 soon afterwards, and loved it even more. I thought about buying S1 of Angel then, but I wasn't too keen on Angel's character then so I got S4 of Buffy instead, and then S5 soon afterwards. S5 was a good time to stop watching Buffy I thought, so after my exams in May/June last year, I bought S1 of Angel and loved it. The cliffhanger hooked me (ZOMFGDARLA!) so I got S2 and S3 for my birthday that summer. That just about tided me over until Christmas, where I got S4 of Angel and S6 of Buffy. I've just finished watching both, and as soon as I get my coursework out of the way (hopefully by next week), I'm gonna buy S7.

Haven't seen Firefly. I watched a couple of episodes of Dollhouse on the internet a few months ago (because it was written by Whedon and starred Faith), but I couldn't get into it.

Buffy -I started reading the books and I was curious about the TV show, so I bought it and totally loved 🙂
Angel -I watched the promos and it looked awesome.

My friend Daniel harrassed me until I watched it! Actually, he is the creator of this thread=D
And now look at me, I am posting on a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan site. Thank you, Daniel. lmao

The first Joss show I ever saw was Serenity actually in 2005. My sister and I thought it was pretty amazing. So we went to the mall, we bought the entire series of Firefly and couldn't stop watching it till we finished. It was amazing. I have never watched something...other than two other shows, with such good writing. (that would be Smallville and Supernatural..still fans of them)

When Buffy and Angel were airing on TV, I was really poor growing up..so I didn't have cable for a really long time. I only had it for maybe....three years now. I remember coming to school in elementary and middle school...people talking about it..I was kind of jealous. I didn't really know what they were talking about. It sounded kind of cool.

I guess you can say it was a need to catch up on life that I missed back when I was a kid, Buffy and Angel were just one of those shows...everyone knew about except me. I felt kind of removed. So when I did get TV and the internet, I went on a watching binge every chance I got. I caught myself up on the shows I missed out on.

I watched Buffy over Halloween through Christmas break last year. It was absolutely amazing. I couldn't stop watching it. I probably watched an episode every chance I got. I talked about it constantly with my high school friends who were in to it. A lot of them couldn't remember, they watched them so long ago. The dymanic of the show is so awesome. There are so many lovable characters. Yea, they mess up. They are only human or used to be. I learned so many life lessons watching Buffy. It is getting me through some times lately. Not only the show, this site and everyone on here. 😀 I am very grateful to be apart of this fandom.

It was the promos. I remember seeing the promos on the WB for a show about a girl who slayed vampires. I was really big into vampire stories and witches and all that fun stuff so I was so excited the day it came on (i think it was a mon or tues) and couldn't wait for the day to be over to watch the premiere. I was 13(?) at the time and I think thats why it had such an impact on me because of the all too familiar undertones of the show. I loved it since the first episode

Buffy - I started watching Buffy because I was on summer break from school and I had nothing to do. I kept reading about how good BtVS was so I thought "eh, why not?" and I watched them all, finally falling in love when I got to School Hard.

Angel - Well, my first time watching Angel I was about 11 (before I even knew what Buffy was). I watched S1, though I just saw it as some show I watched to pass time. I didn't really remember anything about it except for some of the episodes like Rm w/a Vu, Five by Five and Sanctuary (must be cos of my love for Faith and Dushku).

Firefly - Heard Joss was behind it and heard about how good it was so I had to watch it. Bought the DVD without even really looking into what I was buying.

Dollhouse - I was a big Whedon fan by the time it started airing so I followed it's run and really started loving it by the end of S1.

I have only watched Buffy and Angel.

Since senior high, i was into vampires. I found them darkly romantic! So, I started with Bram Stoker's Dracula. Then in Uni, last year, a friend told me about a vamp with a soul. And then I watched a video in you tube about Buffy and Angel's relationship and I was really interested in the shows.

The only reason I started with Angel, is because I found the show's episodes first. I have already read in Wikipedia about Buffy and Angel, so I didn't have many questions. And then, a friend of mine found Buffy episodes and gave them to me...and made me a very happy girl!!!

I really liked those shows, cause not only Joss has unique ideas and a mythology to support them but also all actors and actresses were at their best performances and made the show high quality! Before that, strangely, I had no idea those two shows existed!

I was off work sick and was almost bored to death with daytime TV, my roommate at the time's girlfriend had left Buffy seasons 1 - 4 at my place so I decided to watch them got hooked by the time I was on season 2 and my addiction grew from there, buying each boxset on the day of there release and have continued to watch them ever since.

Angel - My schedule changed and I was at home in the morning. I was clicking around and watched a bit of an ep when Connor was a baby. I clicked around on the show again in a few days and I saw Pete Campbell from Mad Men! I'm thinking what happened here! I saw Angel and thought --hot! Over the next month, I watched a few minutes of the show here and there. Then I decided when TNT would start the show over again I would watch and I did! This was a little over a year ago. I can't believe I had missed out on this show. It has become one of my all time favs of tV.

Dollhouse - I saw it advertised with Eliza Dushku and thought I have to watch. The premise of the show sounded interesting too. I enjoyed both seasons and wish it wasn't canceled.

I was home with a bad back. I had hurt myself skiing, which I never did again I might add LOL. I was lying on the couch and flipping through the channels when the remote fell out of my hand and onto the floor. Now let me tell you, it hurt even to breathe and I just couldn't force myself to pick up the remote.

As I lay there in pain LOL, I realized I had stopped on a re-run of Buffy. The episode, as I later found out was "Earshot." I kept thinking to myself, OH NO, I AM STUCK WATCHING THIS RIDICULOUS SHOW. Boy, did I eat those words. I was hooked. I believe Buffy was in its 6th season at the time and the first few seasons were out on DVD.

I bought the first season and began watching it, then the next and the next and so on and so on. The more I watched the show the more I realized just how ground-breaking this show really was. I loved the characters, the actors, in fact, there was nothing about the show I disliked.

I've been a Buffy fan ever since. I've watched all 7 seasons over and over again and I still believe it was the best television series EVER.

Buffy/Angel: When I was feeling pretty ill a couple of years ago, and couldn't really go out anywhere, my step-dad lent me the videos (yes, those ancient box-things! :O ) I watched Angel first within about a fortnight, and then moved on to Buffy despite feeling better, and flew through that as well. It's great to be able to jump into a show like that, and watch every single episode back to back.

Someone I know from another place on the internet recommended Firefly and Serenity to me, so I rented out the DVDs. This was before I'd ever watched Angel/BtVS. The same person told me about Dollhouse as it was starting up, and it sounded awesome. I actually thought I was quite lucky to be able to watch a Joss Whedon show as it aired, gutted when it got axed.

If I remember correctly, I was about 10, looking through the TV guide section of a paper, saw the words "Buffy och vampyrerna" (it means "Buffy and the vampires", it's how Swedish media translaters the title) and I thought "Hey, vampires!" and watched it on Swedish TV. I think I missed the frist ep, but caught up on the second of third.

Angel I watched because I felt like I had too. I didn't exepect to like it as much as I did, since I already had so much love for Buffy, but I felt like I would be missing out if I didn't watch(even tough I wasn't such a big Angel or Cordelia fan, I felt like I had to take part of that part of the verse too. I was very Bangel then, so it took a few eps before my anger over Angel's departure faded). And now I love the show (not as much as Buffy of course). I think I began watching it after I watched the first 7 seasons of Buffy.

I began watching Dollhouse because it was created by Joss (the Eliza part was a plus). I thought I would be blown away, and I was, but it's nothing compared to Buffy or Angel or Firefly (I began watching Firefly because I heard it was good and it was made by Joss, but I didn't think I would like it at all, since I wasn't in a science fiction/western phase, but after watching Serenity; I had to buy the series).

I guess you could say that my loyalty to Joss has paid off.
