What Makes A Season Your Favorite?

I love, love, love Season Two. The villain was creepy and interesting, there was lots of drama, and there was tons of interesting character growth. There were ships I liked, and the finale was fantastic.
Those are the reasons that I love Season Two. However, another favorite season of mine (Season 6) is missing my favorite character (and favorite ship), and I don't really like the Big Bad at all. I'm not a big fan of Spuffy, and there is not a bit of Bangel to be seen.
But the quality of the episodes is amazing, and the whole season is dramatic and dark and emotional. Even though its missing some things, it more than makes up for them in other regards.
So, what is it about your favorite Season that compels you to watch it? what makes you love certain seasons of Buffy?

Angel season 5. Because Spike was became a complete wimp in Buffy Season 7, it was refreshing to see him become interesting and fun again. David and James had incredibly chemistry too, and their scenes were always special. The show got a new "feel", it managed to balance fun and darkness much better than Buffy ever did (or any other show I have seen). And the finale is easily one of the greatest I have ever seen

I have to relate to what the characters are going through in order for me to genuinely love it. I relate to most of the Scoobies in Season 6 more than I have ever related to them before. Their struggles, in particular Buffy's, are about the same things that I went through (and still going through). That makes me root for the characters even more, and at the same time, they can be my light at the end of this long, dark tunnel.

Season 2 because of a couple things. The main big bad was a completely unexpected and interesting plot twist, not to mention the drama that it added to the season as a whole.
Also, the acting was completely jaw-dropping. SMG's and DB's (As well as the entire cast) performances were oscar-worthy.Also, it featured some of the most well written TV episodes ever ("Passion", "I Only Have Eyes For You." , "Becoming, Pts. 1 & 2)

Season 6.

I enjoy watching the characters make mistakes, fall hard, and best of all, in the end, make the right decisions. I can relate. Life is tough, and the hardest thing in this world is to live in it, right? I can relate. It makes the characters more real to me when they don't always make the right decisions. Buffy sleeping with Spike? Bad idea. Xander leaving Anya at the altar? Mega bad idea. Willow going dark? Super bad idea. Dawn stealing? Super-mega bad idea.

But hey, at least they aren't the only ones who cant make the right decisions. Hence our love for season 6. 🙂

Oh my. It's always so hard for me to pick a favorite season to begin with.

I love Season 2, 5, and 6. And that's just at the moment! Next week it could totally change. lol

Though I'm thinking season 2 is winning a little bit this week. It makes me so nostalgic and it's got some really amazing episodes. And I would say that it has my favorite season arc. Angel/Angelus is very interesting. I love the closeness of the Scoobies and Giles/Jenny. I just generally enjoy watching that season a lot. Am thinking about rewatching it again over the next couple days.

Plus. Spike is looking good that season. For reals. I had to have my shallow moment there. 😀

My favourite seasons in both AtS and BtVS are their S5s (although, for BtVS, S2 trails close behind). In AtS, I love the storyline and the new setting--plus, the Angel-Spike dynamic that made me ship Spangel, the only slash couple I actually ship (neutral to Tillow). Illyria is awesome. The episodes are generally very good (with the outstanding exception of The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco). BtVS S5 beat S2 because I don't like Bangel, and while I appreciate the writing and drama, the whole season would have had more of an impact on me if I actually gave a fig about cardboard Angel. S5's episodes were also of a high standard throughout the entire season, and The Gift is my favourite season finale. The storyline had less plot holes than usual (lol).

My Fav seasons are because of the storylines and characters in them. Season 3 of BTVS because of Faith and Season 1 of Ats because of Doyle.

What makes S5 of BtVS my favorite is everything Buffy goes through in that season. How she gets hit really hard, and keep fighting till she ends up sacrificing herself. Also, the whole season is really gripping, yet has those very light-hearted episodes such as 'Checkpoint', 'Triangle' and 'Buffy vs Dracula'. 🙂 Spike switches side, we get to dig a bit more into his past. Dawn is a nice addition, although a bit whiny. And the Tara/Willow relationship is great. 😛 Oh and let's not forget Jinx... Dude is awesome.

As for S4 of AtS, it's simple. Epic storyline, Wes is a badass and Angelus reappears finally! The whole thing feels like it's non-stop action too. It was also the only Buffyverse season that had me shocked so many times. Despite its obvious flaws, S4 was really special for me. 😉

My favourite season of Buffy was Season 5.

It had an awesome big bad Glory. She's my favourite Big Bad of the series, she's just awesome. The season had a really cool and original plot twist to it (Dawn showing up all of a sudden as Buffy's sister). It had Joyce's death, and I think The Body is a remarkable episode that ties into the season wonderfully. It had lots of funny moments, and lots of Tillow and Xanya love. And of course it had The Gift which is probably one of the best finales. It was just a really well-done season, especially after Season 4. None of the episode felt like fillers, everything was necessary, and nothing felt rushed. Really well-done. 🙂

I used to have a hard time deciding between seasons 2 and 3, but 2 is definitely my favorite. I agree with your reasons. Angelus is probably my favorite big bad of the entire series, there are a lot of really intense moments which I love. And I'm pretty sure that I love Becoming Pt. 1 & 2 way more than Graduation Day Pt. 1 & 2. I'm a sucker for an unhappy ending. Every single time that I watch season 2's finale, I can't help but cry just a little bit. Season 3 was sort of the more...up beat version of 2. Still intense, I love The Mayor, and the finale is great. Ugh I love both of those finales so damn much.

Maybe I can't pick between the two. I love them both for the same...yet different reasons. I think I might find season 3 more entertaining, but 2 is definitely better.

My favorite season is season 6. I consider Dark Willow the villain, or the Big Bad.
Willow is my favorite character and there is so much going on with Willow in that season.
I like the Trio (please don't beat me, besides, it's Be Nice on the Internet Week 😛).
I hate Warren, but Andrew and Jonathan and all the Star Wars references etc. are hilarious! 😀

The whole season makes me feel kind of uncomfortable, which makes the finale an even more awesome conclusion.
I also almost never watch single episodes from season 6. I feel like this season has to be watched as one piece. Kinda like a progressive rock album or something.

I look for a good story line that evokes a lot of emotions, continuity and my favorite characters. While I enjoy every season of BTVS and Angel there are only a few seasons that I can truly say are some of my favorite television seasons. I absolutely love BTVS S2 and 3 as well as Angel S2. The rest I just enjoy.

"Not Fade Away" had a message, which is why I consider is more than a cliffhanger. From the beginning Angel and the characters on his show have all been fighting. Angel is redeeming himself for Angelus, all Gunn has done is fight since, Wesley is trying to find his purpose in life after being fired, Cordelia after her visions realizes what's important in life and just wants to help, Lorne has been exiled from his world and is just trying to fit in, and Fred might be the only one without a chip on her shoulder (the show isn't perfect lol).

Anyways, the finale is is basically what the show has been about from the beginning, fighting and never giving up no matter how bad things get. When you think about it, Angel and his group will always be fighting because they realize the world will never be "good". That's main difference between the Scoobies and the Fang Gang. The Scoobies were only fighting because they had to and all wanted normal lives, the Fang Gang fought because they wanted to.

And at least the show didn't end in some boring, generic battle...like "Chosen"🙄
