Did I miss something? Is Marti off Prison Break? The Futon Critic is saying the following now.

BROTHERS & SISTERS (ABC) - Marti Noxon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Point Pleasant") has joined the drama pilot as an executive producer where she'll serve as its showrunner should it be ordered to series. Noxon's involvement comes as the result of a two-year, seven-figure overall deal the writer/producer has signed with "Brothers" producer Touchstone Television. The pact also calls for her to develop new series projects for the studio. Ken Olin and creator Jon Robin Baitz also serve as executive producers on "Brothers."

Am I the only one who loves Marti Noxon?

Everyone blames her for ruining Buffy. I think her episodes were the best ones. Joss defends her and says most of the changes that she's blamed for were HIS decisions.

I loved "Point Pleasant" as well. I know that I'm definitely in the minority on that, but the show is really intriguing, even though it never took off and reached its full potential.

She's also a "Wonderfalls" fan.

I also like her personality, or at least what I've picked up on from interviews and listening to her. Plus I e-mailed her and she e-mailed me back and was very nice. She's writing that movie for Sam Raimi called "The Curse" which sounds good, and I hope it gets filmed.

I will check out "Brothers & Sisters". She didn't have anything to do with the pilot, I don't think, I think she joined afterwards, so I will stick with that show until I at least see what SHE'S done with the show.

And she's also contracted to develop new series for Touchstone. She's said she will not do any more sci-fi shows, but I *really* hope she changes her mind.
 
Yeah I agree, I liked MN's episodes of Buffy, and I also loved Point Pleasant. And I remember reading that interview where she said she would do no more Sci-fi, which I really hope she changes her mind on, Which is a real pity. It's really annoying to think that she must feel so screwed over by TV that she never wants to write for a Sci-fi TV show again!

Just to push your Karma pts over 7 grand. :)
She is amazing at Dark Sci-fi, point pleasant obviously. But even in Buffy, she wrote The Wish which is an amazing episode, Bring on the Night - Both are full of action and are quite dark. But she can also write something like The Prom which is dark but it reflects everything about the show - Action, Comedy, Friendship and amazing dialog, it had so much that made the series so great in one episode!

Well...I was going to just post the info, and keep my mouth shut, but seeing as you ask...

I like Marti in an interview. She seems like a really nice person.

As a writer I liked her best in the days when Joss would have been looking over her shoulder with stuff like The Wish, or The Prom. She's good in a co-writer capacity also as with Bring on the Night which she co-wrote with Douglas Petrie. I think I read somewhere she also had an uncredited part in the writing of Conversations with Dead People with Joss, Drew Goddard and Jane Espenson also contributing.

On her own though...not so much. When I saw the pilot to Point Pleasant I couldn't believe it was the same person writing. I wasn't the only one who didn't like it. As I recall the ratings took a plummetting nose dive after that pilot which might hold some kind of record.

Now in her capacities as producer, show runner, again I think she's better when there's a "co" in front of the title. I've developed this theory where Marti is responsible for the screw-ups which tainted the second half of Season 7. After Showtime stuff stopped making sense. In my theory Marti doesn't really care if things make sense.

I remember during Season 7 there was talk of ending in a 5 episode arc in which all would be explained. The writers assigned to them were the best, and there was hope all would turn out well. Before it could happen though, a couple those writers disappeared from the list, and we're replaced with what seemed to me to be Marti's personal favourites - Drew Z Greenberg (Him, Empty Places) and Rebecca Rand Kirshner (Touched). I can't help thinking those two share Marti's believe things don't have to make sense.

Another time Marti bugged me was when she went to Prison Break as I believe an associate producer. Great series, but it started to get criticism saying too much stuff didn't make sense. (BTW. Have you guessed yet, I keep repeating that phrase on purpose) My reading of her response was she claimed they tried to make stuff plausible within the boundaries of the story, but it didn't really have to be. Shortly after that she left Prison Break. My feeling is the show was always good, but it's gotten better since.

OK, so my feeling on Marti Noxon professionally. I like her as long as there's a "co" in front of her title, and someone else is in charge.
 
You can't really say the ratings for Point Pleasant reflect the quality of the show much. I mean, it was on after American Idol. FOX didn't advertise much that the show was moving against CSI except like two days before it actually premiered. And then considering it was against CSI the ratings are definitely gonna drop. The ratings WERE starting to climb though by the time the show got cancelled.

And the show changes a LOT from the pilot episode. By the last episode it's not even the same show.
 
I saw one Ben Edlund (Smile Time) wrote. That one showed promise.
 
He only wrote one episode that was aired in the U.S., "Who's Your Daddy?" so I assume that's the one you're talking about. The other was called "Waking the Dead" about...well, the title sort of explains it.

Are you saying that episode showed promise in the sense it was overall better than the pilot, or...you thought it still sucked but it showed potential? lol

THE SKINNY: Marti Noxon has a new series at ABC starting this fall called BROTHERS AND SISTERS and was on-hand at an ABC party to promote her new show. While talking with the talented writer/producer, iF managed to find out what might have been beyond season seven for BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, and some possible future plans to revisit that universe.

iF MAGAZINE: What would have happened if BUFFY had gone into an eighth season?

MARTI NOXON: Joss and I were so, so, so tired that we didn't think about it. I had way more ideas for the FAITH show, than I did for the BUFFY show. That was something that was more alive for me at that point and I could see that show. In terms of, we would have broken the model and done something new, but the BUFFY model felt so tapped out and we were so afraid of the show not staying at the level of quality that we hopefully maintained for most of the seasons. I think that was why it was over for me because I didn't have another thought at that moment, and Joss didn't have another thought. We were thinking however, "If you put Faith and Spike in a show"¦"

iF: How close to actually doing the FAITH series before you knew it wasn't going to happen?

NOXON: It was a combination of things. Eliza Dushku was committed to something else; she had just taken TRU CALLING. She wasn't sure she wanted to keep playing Faith, and then the series got cancelled several different times.

iF: Would you ever feel like visiting the "BUFFY-verse" again via comics perhaps?

NOXON: If I had the time and the energy I definitely would. It would be fun to put my head back there. Joss and I talk all the time, so you never know. It would be nice to write with Joss again, and we all loved him.

Oh for the love of god!!! Why does Spike have to be in everything! I think he would have been a crap combination with Faith. At this point I'm hoping Ripper is the one to go on as it's the most likely one not to contain Spike!!
 
I *really* hope there is a Faith spin-off pretty soon but they can keep Spike out of it, please. Or at least reduce him to recurring only.

BEG did you hear about how James Marsters was going to join the cast of Point Pleasant if it got picked up for season two?

I think Marti and James are screwin' or something because she tries to put him in everything.
 
I think a Faith spin-off is a fantastic idea, but It shouldn't have any of the old cast in it, maybe Andrew, as the comic relief guy. But definitely not Spike, He is totally being over used, He is the only character in the 12 series from the Buffy-Angel verse that I am sick of!

I remember hearing something about him doing Point Pleasant, and while I would have rathered one of the other cast members, I might not have minded, if his character was nothing like Spike, but if he was just a recreation I actually would have stopped watching!

I just don't like that he seems to be everyone's favourite!
 
As I recall the original idea by rumour was something like Faith and the ghost of Spike on a motorcycle. Where there they were going to go from there, I don't know.

I'm not so much the Spike-hater, but I would have preferred someone like Dana on the back of the motorcycle.
 
For a Faith series...I'd like Andrew, definitely, and a resurrected Cordelia, because you can't have too much Cordy.
 
Marti has left "Brothers and Sisters".

"Brothers & Sisters" showrunner Marti Noxon has departed the upcoming ABC sudser.

According to a Touchstone TV rep, Noxon left the show due to creative differences. Insiders said she and "Brothers & Sisters" creator Jon Robin Baitz disagreed on the show's direction.

Baitz remains with the show, and Touchstone is expected to announce a new showrunner shortly. The highly regarded Noxon, who developed a fan base during her time running "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," will continue to develop and exec produce new dramas for Touchstone under a two-year, seven-figure overall pact she signed with the studio earlier this year (Daily Variety, April 13).

Noxon's departure is the latest shake-up to hit "Brothers & Sisters," which scored the plum post-"Desperate Housewives" 10 p.m. Sunday slot on ABC's fall sked. Last month, Sally Field and Matthew Rhys were brought into the show (Daily Variety, July 11), replacing original pilot thesps Betty Buckley and Jonathan LaPaglia.

The cast changes meant portions of the pilot had to be reshot; as a result, a screener for the show (which bows Sept. 24) still has not been released.

"Brothers & Sisters" revolves around five California siblings; show also stars Calista Flockhart, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin and Patricia Wettig. Ken Olin is also an exec producer.

Beyond "Buffy," Noxon created the short-lived Fox drama "Point Pleasant" and the never-aired drama "Still Life." She also served as a consulting producer on the "Buffy" spinoff "Angel."
