I'm looking for movies with strong, witty, independant female first-role (Yeah, that makes a lot of conditions!).
I like to watch Buffy or Veronica Mars, because they are really motivating character who makes you want to be as strong and witty and independent. I usually am all of that but I've had a tough summer and a good badass-girls-movies watching is exactly what I need! I also think about Juno or Whip it, both with Ellen Page, where she plays an adolescent well...you get it, strong, witty, independent.
So, any suggestions?:biggrin3:

If you haven't seen it, I highly reccommend "She's All That". 🙂 It's a great movie about a very smart, artistic young girl who learns that she doesn't have to compromise who she is even when everyone else is telling her she does. Plus, SMG has a cameo! 😉

I love that movie. First, I watched it only when I found out SMG's in it.. that little scene when she turns down the pizza LOL

very good choice I love that movie! I used to watch it everday during the summer when I was younger ;)
If you don't care how great the plot and or/the acting are, you should watch Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Here are the trailers:

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (sorry, it's not very high quality)

Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life -

Also, you should watch The Women, the entire movie has a female cast - not even the extras are men! Jada Pinkett Smith is in it and who doesn't love her? There's not really an overly strong female lead, but its very "woman empowering". Here's the trailer:

The Resident Evil movies are worth a watch too (plus there's a new one coming out soon!):

Resident Evil:

The first two movies that popped into my head actually were "Juno" and "Whip It" xD

Have you heard of "St. Trinian's"? It may be just what you're looking for and it's a lot of fun if you don't take it seriously. And with that, I mean at all.

There's also "Imagine Me And You", which is a beautifully done romance. The two leads (Lena Headey and Piper Perabo) are fantastic and play so well off of each other and both are very strong and awesome in their own way. (and Anthony Stewart Head plays Perabo's character's father).

I also liked what I've seen of Aeon Flux. I haven't watched the whole movie though.

aw St Trinians is a good one.
I usually am all of that but I've had a tough summer...

I know this is totally the opposite of what you're asking for, but I say a good way to drown a tough summer would be to immerse yourself with the Winchester boys. *sigh*

Well Sugar and Spice is a good one it is cute and funny.
Now for independent I have some movies Dreamland is a okay one but I don't know if it will necessarily cheer you up.
I will look at my movies and see if I have any more suggestions for you 😉

Nice banner, I totally heart JDM
For really strong, independent woman roles, I would actually go back to some classic movies. Anything with Katherine Hepburn, like "The Philadelphia Story."

But, if you're looking for more modern movies, ones that come to my mind are "Legally Blonde," "The Holiday" (absolutely adore Kate Winslet in that), Chicago (women as murderers while dancing and singing may be what you need, lol), or Bend It Like Beckham (with Keira Knightley and Johnathan Rhys-Meyers).

I was a film major in college, so I got a ton of choices 😀

Oh, yes, Katherine Hepburn is fantastic!

ooh good choice. I'd suggest anything with Miss Audrey Hepburn as well. 🙂

Alien movies--Ripley
first 2 Terminator movies--Sarah Connor
Fifth Element--Leeloo
Star Wars 4-6--Princess Leia
La Femme Nikita--Nikita

If you're open to a bit of old school then I would recommend Faster Pussycat Kill Kill by Russ Meyer. Amazing movie. Quite ahead of its time and beautifully filmed.

Also, both the comics and the movie - Tank Girl (1995, so it's quite recent). Awesome lead female character. It's actually reminded me that I'm due for a rewatch!

I'll try and think of some more - but I would definitely recommend those two for starters.

A strong female role...anything Meryl Streep, Whoopi Goldberg and the ultimate dominant female movies Kill Bill.

I was thinking Kill Bill, too, although they tend to be a bit violent for me. Not an action movie, but Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich is awesome.

Thelma and Louise also seems like an obvious suggestion.

Oh I wouldn't recommend anyone to watch this movie, I thought it was horrible. It didn't feel very 'empowering' to me at all, the only thing it did was make me want to avoid women for a long long time.

Yeah, I feel the same about "The Women". Horrible movie.

not empowering at all
Some not mentioned:

The Scream series - It was Neve Campbell's first role outside Party of Five and Courteney Cox is AMAZING in it. Sarah Michelle is also in the second! It's women-empowered in the sense that it has strong females that don't die, haha. (At least the leads, anyway...)

I recently watched The Pink Conspiracy with Mercedes McNab and Sarah Thompson (Both from Angel) and I personally didn't like it, but it's about their characters plotting to literally destroy this one womanizer.

Hmmm...

Mean Girls is great, but I don't know of anyone that hasn't seen it.
