What other languages do you know?

Besides your native tougue that is. And feel free to post some phases in said language here. Besides doing French at school (which was awhile a go now😉) I've never learnt another language but someone of my floor does greek so I am starting to learn a few phases in greek.

For a couple of years in high school, I was taking French, English, German and Latin. My native language is English but I might be able to understand some French and very little German. Latin was really not my thing.

Portuguese (my native language) and English. I took French in Middle school (it was mandatory), but it didn't stick.

I have enough trouble with different accents let alone languages! I took French lessons for 5 years at school but remember next to nothing and also 1 year of Spanish that didn't stick either.

Technically English is my other language 😛 My mother tongue is French. I can usually understand bits and pieces of other language, usually written Italian, Spanish or Portuguese I can get the gist of it (lots of people around me speaking those languages), but I couldn't speak any of those myself.

There is some help from the fact that all the romance languages (languages derived from Latin) have similarities, so if you understand one of Portuguese, Spanish, French, Romanche (used locally in Switzerland and closest to Latin), Italian and Romanian, it isn't much of a step to learn the others. Similarly, English is derived from old German and 52% of English words are of German origin, so it should be simple if you know English or German to learn Dutch, Afrikaans, Norse, Icelandic (which is Norse from 1000 years ago), and a bit more of a stretch to Swedish, but they are all related. Finnish , Estonian and Hungarian are related but there is almost no correlation with English except for, say, the days of the week in Estonian to English.

If you know one you know them all? Not really, but it should be a little easier to learn a language from your own group.

Still remember bits of French from high school. My French teacher always said I spoke well and with a good accent! I was like "wut". To speak well with a French accent when you have a broad Scottish accent is a laugh.

Would also love to learn Italian and Japanese.

I am the week worst with learning new languages. Recently took Spanish and i still can't speak it. I can read some of it but im not good at pronouncing the words. So sadly i can only speak English.
