What places can vampires enter?

Maybe Sunday could enter the dorms because there was no one there when she did and she had no real intention of killing anyone while in there.
It's a stretch, but it COULD work!

I mean if the chip could work on intention, there's gotta be a clear intention area of the vampire brain!

Angel had no intention of killing anyone (except maybe Spike) in "Lovers Walk," but he still had to be invited in. I don't think intent matters.

KONK for ruining my well thought out arguement
thanks and i dont think the dorms or school buildings belong to anyone private, could be like the angel thing with 'anyone who seeks knowledge' thing.... perhaps?

I thought that Sunday could enter people's dorm rooms because technically the owner they were there to steal things from was dead. It might have been different if they were stealing from the roommate.

All the occupants of a residence would have to be dead for a vampire to enter. In any respect Buffy was still alive and yet the vamps entered her dorm. It seems vamps don't need invites to dorms and Angel got it wrong and like I said Spike and Angel were never knocked back by dorm room barriers.

And I also thought Connor's place was like a ratty old no walls flop place that was half falling down. I think to have a "private home" (at least under the law of search warrants) you have to have a "reasonable expectation of privacy". Something about that place leads me to believe ANYONE could just walk in!

Well Connor's place was no worse than Gunn's old digs and that required an invite and Angel seemed a little more desperate in that scene implying that he might have tried to get in.

But did Connor consider that place as a "home"? Wasn't he still fixated on Holtz being his father and his "home" being Quar'toth? Gunn's place was definately a propper dwelling. Connor was merely sleeping in an old...an old.....what was it exactly? A warehouse? I can't remember.

Anyway, that's the main difference I see between the two, so it could be something.

People, what about the car? Definetly a car is NOT a home! lol

I think the car was just Cordelia being self-centered and histrionic . . . as usual. I think Buffy and Willow did the ward-off thing on her car just to make her feel better, but I doubt it mattered. Because the car isn't her home, and I think any vampire could really come into it at any time.

Didn't Angel say once how hotels are considered public accomodations? That wouldn't apply to the Hyperion obviously because Angel Inc. didn't use the building as a hotel, but as their office and homes (more like an apartment). That would also explain why dorms would be open to Sunday because dorms would be more like public accomodations. Your home is still with your parents even though you live in the dorm.

And I think the example with Connor and the anti-violence spell in season 4 where he is affected even though only demons were supposed to be affected shows that the rules are a little different in his case.

Gaah, now I need to go back and watch season 4 so I can remember which eps these moments are from exactly. Research mode!

As far as the dorms, I think Willow probably did a deinvite spell on her and Buffys room after the whole Sunday incident..

Can you even do a general de-invite? And doesn't that require an invite to have taken place? I'm not sure - if the invite rule doesn't apply to a place - that that spell would work. With a general Vamp-be-gone, the Watcher's council colud just make their way around the world de-inviting Vampires to this dimension.

Well a dorm room is basically like a house or an apartment. You payed for it, its yours until you leave. People still have to have permission for the most part to enter into your dorm room, so a de-invite spell should work imo.

This dimension wasnt even "ours" in the beginning. It belonged to demons until they were thrown out and evolution took place. And since its such a big place, you cant pick and choose who to invite into this dimension since one person cant deciede for an entire planet. Its totally different from a small place that is magically deemed yours when you pay for it.

Connor and home is kind of difficult because he refers to Quor'toth as his home but then he later says he doesn't have a home.

He actually does refer to his dwelling as "home".
CORDELIA
What is this place?

CONNOR
(removes fast food containers from the bed) Home.

From Slouching Toward Bethlehem.

Yeah that's right this is why wasn't able to enter Fred's room because she had taken up private residence in the room and each room would count as one unit. Also Angel didn't own the hotel.

That would also explain why dorms would be open to Sunday because dorms would be more like public accomodations. Your home is still with your parents even though you live in the dorm.

Dorms definitely seem in that midway point.

If Connor were demon enough then that would expain it. You don't need an invite for a demon's dwellings.

Well a dorm room is basically like a house or an apartment. You payed for it, its yours until you leave. People still have to have permission for the most part to enter into your dorm room, so a de-invite spell should work imo.

This is where it gets confusing because dorms seem more private than a hotel room but yet you can't stay there forever (as far as I'm aware) so you have less rights than an ordinary apartment. Seen as Sunday and co got in and Buffy wouldn't have invited them, I'd say no invite necessary and therefore there is no invite to be rescinded.

But that's working under the assumption that a dorm room requires an invite. Which, as Sunday showed, it doesn't. So what I was saying was that you can't de-invite a vampire that hasn't been invited into a place they don't need to be invited into because they don't need an invite. Even moreso, you can't de-invite all vampires from a place they dont need an invite to enter and haven't recieved an invite yet, since the spell seems to be specifically rescinding a specific invite. Clear? :lmao:

KONK! Willy's not here....getting Konk Withdrawal....but it's only a foam rubber pan now!
I think if i was worried about a vamp getting into a certain place and wasn't to sure if they needed an invite or not I'd douse my handle in holy water.

Albeit they could kick the door down but it would annoy them and let them know they ain't dealing with just a random person but someone that knew about there kind.

In The Initiative, Spike knocked on Buffy/Willow's dorm room, Willow said "come in" (not knowing it was Spike) and Spike could enter. So it's not entirely clear if vamps need a invite to get into dorm rooms.

buffy's home is 1630 revello drive
sunday got in to the dorm room becoz buffy always new her true home was 1630.
spike needed permission to get in to the dorm room bcoz willow lived there.

But did Spike actually NEED permission to enter? He may just have knocked for the sake of it or he didnt know he could just enter. We dont know the only reason Spike could enter was because he was invited.

^^Now that is just silly! What are we saying here that Spike is the poster child for "Etiquette For Murderers In Today's World"?
I give Spike LOTS of credit but your general politeness isn't one of them.
There's no reason for a person who intends to kill you, wait for your roommate and then kill HER to knock on the door unless he NEEDS to be invited in!

I think the Sunday mystery has to revolve around her being a student there when she died. That sounds FAR more likely than Spike was being overly polite during a murder plot!
