What Should Have happened with Connor

Hey guys!

I used to like Angel's show a whole lot until the introduction of Connor. I"m not sure if many people agree with me but I feel Connor killed the show. Basically the reason why I think this is that the writers decided to go along with the cliche of the baby being sent off someplace and returning as a teenager. I cannot begun to count how many times stories have taken this road. It's been done over and over. Had the writers taken Connor's existence down another path, there could've been much more done with Connor.

For one thing, a baby being born from two vampires is a huge event. It never happened before so they could definitely have done something with that but instead, they decided to have Connor grow up and then be a pain in the @$$ for Angel. Connor could've symbolize any number of things because this story has never been told. Just think of all the possiblities of for a story about a human born from two vampires. How did it happen? Why did it happen? What does it mean that it happened? Connor's existence could've been better explain and he could've been potentially the best character from Angel.

Had something had happened with Connor in this season, I'm sure that Angel would not have been cancelled by the WB. The writers made a mistake with what they did with Connor. It's unfortunate but the hands of time cannot be turned back to fix the problem.
 
I think that rather than rewriting Connor's life, Angel should've sent Connor to someone who could teach him about life and about being a hero. He should've sent him to Giles. Connor would've loved Giles, as he's a human demon fighter, and Giles is the only character we've met who has the skills to raise both a teenager and a hero.
 
I also think that teenager Connor made the show worse..I guess sending him away might have been a good idea🙂
 
Yea, Connor should've been left in the hell dimension IMO🙂. I never really liked the character. He just seemed to annoy me with all his whining - perhaps that was what he was meant to do. I never really felt any sympathy for him or connected with the character at all - not down to Vincent Kartheiser, who I think was doing his best.
 
I don't think sending him away would've worked, because I don't think he would've wanted to go away. But if he had to go with anyone, he should've gone to Buffy. Remember that Connor was in awe of Faith. But though Faith is not capable of raising a kid, I think Buffy could've raised Angels son.
 
And I'm sure she'd have been more than happy to raise Angel and Darla's son...Or he could have simply died

I wish he would have, but I think if you think about it, pretend you never saw Connor as a teen. Wouldn't you have wanted to learn what happened to him. I think the storyline they used with him was awful...I wish he never came back. But I know it would have annoyed me if they sent him away and that was it. They would have had Angel have a son and everything, for him to just go away..that wouldn't be good either. But I would have rather been annoyed with that storyarc than the actual one we were presented with. He should have stayed there...
 
I fully agree. I am only now seeing season 3( yes, I missed a whole season...... shame on me). But I began to watch season 4 around the time that the Beast showed up. It was explained that all the events of each of the seasons( Doyle's death and transfer of the visions to Cordy, the birth of Connor, her becoming a celestial being, even Connor and Cordy's intimate encounter) occured by the will of the being later called Jasmine to return to Earth. It was interesting( somewhat), but I still can't stand CONNOR. His whining, his brooding( can it be, he broods more than his father), his childish claim to Cordelia( Angelus was right, the first woman he boned used to change his diapers.... not a direction they needed to go in), and especially his selfish act in the final episode. It ws a great start, but piss-poor execution. Thank all things good and pure he isn't around to bitch and moan about how Angel ruined his life( like he sent him away to the demon dimension) this season.

I agree with you here. The idea that Jasmine brought about this chain of events was a little interesting but it was hardly enough to justify what had happened. I think the writers were just using this as a way to bring in a continuity of sorts to the show and to make it clear that the show is progressing towards something since Season 1.

What I would have liked was to have Connor stay a baby. His very existence is already something special and nothing more was needed to make him more special. In fact, sending him off and having him come back only makes his story a cliche. They never should have sent him off. Had he remained, there could've been much much more potential with his characer.
 
i found baby Connor more anoying then teenage Connor myself. throwing a kid into a show always feels like some last ditch effort on the writing staff so having be part of a plot was helpful and at least teenage Connor could show emotion and say things (tho i could have gone without most of the whining and brooding.)
 
I strongly disliked Connor. I really did. Yeah, it definately would've given him more potential to come back later, when say, they would really need a character for a certain situation. Also, I don't think he deserved that ending. I would much rather have him been sucked into a Hell dimension or something. Geez. He was so whiney, and he was such a nuisance. I think so many people didn't like him that they stopped watching. He was just...bad. Ahh. Haha.
 
I disliked teenage connor a lot.
He just brooded and whined to much if you ask me.
I really liked baby connor though.
I loved seeing how happy Angel was with him.
And hated seeing how unhappy he was when connor was sent to hell.
He should have stayed a baby.
it would have been fun to see him groing up and maybe a little faster then usual baby's.
See him go from baby to toddler.
And see how Angel would have raised him.
 
I totally disagree that Connor killed the show in season 3. Seasons 3 & 4 were the best seasons IMO. They were thrilling and the long story archs kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

Was Connor annoying?

Yes, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing in my view. It just means I have a certain emotion towards him. The show made me not like him, which is a feeling the writer's made me feel. Again, not necessarily a bad thing.

It may have been the writers' intent all along. I like to have characters that I like and despise. If I "liked" all of the characters that wouldn't be as fun. I loved season 3 & the finale was great (even though it seemed quite grim for Angel).

Without Connor how could the finale have ended the way it did? Plus, I also loved seeing Angel knock Connor's ass to the ground when he was raised back up to dry land in the season 4 premiere.

I think Angel Seasons 3 & 4 were TV perfection.

I believe this was all explained in season 4. All the events from as far back as season 1 led up to Jasmine's birth. They were like chess pieces being moved around in just the right places to make it possible for for Jasmine to be born.

Connor has NOTHING to do with Angel being cancelled. His story finished after season 4. He's leading a happy, normal life, like his father wanted for him.

Angel was cancelled, because it costs too much to make. The ratings it pulls in are ok and it's the 2nd highest rated WB show, but I don't think it pulls in enough Neilson viewers to make the WB want to plunk down the kind of money it takes to make a costly, densely plotted show, like Angel.

Why would they? I mean, they can make cheap reality crap and everyone will watch.

Neilson is crap if you ask me. Angel has proved it has the most devoted fans of any show currently airing. Just look at all the lopsided polls in favor of "Angel". Also, the Fox forum has turned into the "Angel forum" recently. lol. The dense plots make it hard for newbies to get into, but IMO, that's what makes the show so great (if you've watched from the beginning).

Angel was cancelled, because the WB are idiots. Fans have already proved that with their unprecedented (have a look at EOnline's incredibly lopsided "Save One Show" Poll) fighting to save Angel.
 
Although I hated teenage Connor I would have been ok with him if he was killed off after only one or two episodes...but I still would have rather him stayed in his nice little hell dimension...
 
Yes...Brooding Angel is sexy Angel IMO🙂 plus knowing that Connor is suffering..well..you know🙂
 
I agree that the writer's might have intended to make Connor a pain in the @$$ but way they tied up his story in the end of Season 4 seemed rushed. First of all, I saw the ending of Season 4 as the easy way placing structure to Angel's show from the beginning of the series. Angel had never been about fighting Big Bads. It was always about the characters and the relationships. To have Season 4 explain key events of the past season leading to the creation of Jasmine as the Big Bad probably was just a way for the writer's to try to clean their plate of the everything.

Then saying that Connor was born so that he can have sex with Cordelia to spawn Jasmine makes Connor nothing more than a sex object. What's sad is that once the writer's were done with him, he was written off the show. To me they wrote him off the show because they realized that they didn't go the right direction with him.

I respect that people think that Connor didn't kill the show but the way I see it, so much of the things that happened after the intro of Connor just didn't go as planned. If you watch the technical stuff and story, you'll see that there was a weakening of focus. The writer's probably didn't really know what they wanted to say about Connor's odd existence so they had him be the guy that helps spawn Jasmine. Honestly, Connor could have been representative of more after all, he's not even supposed to exist being that 2 vampires cannot create life. :: hiding:

I loved Conner's character, maybe it's because I am 17 and can related to him. or because I always had trust in Joss and the writer's decisions. I think Conner was very well written, and there was one one bad episode with him in Season 3, "Dad" (Don't remember if that was Baby Conner or Vincent Conner).
