The past few nights, I can smell the smell of pot coming though the walls from my neighbor's apartment. I don't care what they do in there, but I don't want to smell it. Would it be rude of me to ask them not to smoke near our shared wall, or should I say nothing?

If I were you, I would say something. Yes, they are in their own home but their activities are now invading yours. Just go round and ask them nicely if they wouldn't mind smoking it near the shared wall, as the smell is traveling through. (Possibly add levity to the situation by joking about the crappiness of thin walls). If they are decent enough people they won't have a problem with that request. If they are not and they refuse, well, personally I would continue to take it further.

But yes, I advise you do say something. I mean they chose to do that stuff, but you didn't choose to smell it. Human rights and all that jazz, hehe 🙂

You really have to say something to them. If they don't want to stop, you tell the landlord. If that doesn't work, you wait till they do it again, and call the police. Even if they try to put it out the police will smell that in your place for a long while afterward. Give them enough reason to knock on their door. And it will end then for sure.

I would definitely ask them to smoke it somewhere else. I hate the smell of weed. Never personally tried it but my friends smoke it all the time when I'm with them and it smells awful. I definitely would not want to have to smell it in my own home.

Thanks everyone!
I'll mention something next time I see them in the parking lot or something.

If there's more people in your building, and more of them share walls. You could remind your neighbours that potentially not all of them are as nice to ask them to mind the smell. Some might call the police straight away. By doing so, you subtly remind them that what they're doing could get them into trouble, but you're also saying that you don't plan to do it yourself, so they needn't feel threatened by you.

Just have to emphasize threatening here.

Its very difficult situation, you don't want to go around and even with levity in your voice, seem like you're giving an ultimatum even though that is exactly what you are doing.
