What should Whedon do now?

Now that Joss is pretty much done with Marvel. What project do you think that Whedon should do next, or that you would like to see him do in not too distant future?

I for one would like to see him do a show that's closer to Buffy. In that I mean a show with mostly teen protagonists. I think that one of the things I really enjoyed about Buffy was the core Scoobies' interactions. In fact that's one of the things I always kind of wanted to see more of on Buffy was the off camera moments of the gang hanging out or doing stuff together. Shoot, they could even drop the supernatural elements (although I wouldn't) and it would probably we worth watching. I think it would be neat seeing those kind of characters through the high school/college years. Maybe having more (well written) immediate family involved as well. Then again I like a good family drama (as in Once & Again or Parenthood - not 7th Heaven/Fuller House), so maybe that's just something that appeals to me.

I think Joss would go for something like Party of Five but not something as cheesy as Dawson's Creek.
I think Whedon was at his best when he did TV, but I don't see him going back to a full time series after his popularity boost that came with doing the Avengers movies. I'd like something out of the box like Dollhouse, but I don't see that happening.
 
I am curious to see where he goes with the musical idea he has; if that's just a one-off or something more. He already has said it is not a sequel to Dr. Horrible.

I think I would rather NOT see him on TV or the movies. I would rather he produce and focus oh shepherding in new talents.
 
An AU Buffy - reboot - set in Cleveland - in a universe where the potentials were never activated.

As much as it was easy to get comfortable with the high school years, it was kind of limiting in a way. University is where the story should start, with people who have a little more independence and a little less connection and proceed towards a tighter connection. Showing people with similar interests or people who are just sympatico growing together may work better than showing a core that is established in high school then just splinters apart.

Don't know, maybe I'd agree with that if it was 15 years ago. TV is kind of happening (critically & commercially) right now. You've got viable movie stars & directors doing TV nowadays. So going back to TV wouldn't be considered a step down like it once was. I think that some are finding that TV is a good medium for certain kinds of storytelling. So I'm hoping that Whedon (& Sorkin for that matter) will make their triumphant return to the 'small screen'. 🙂

Within the Buffyverse, maybe "Fray, The Vampire Slayer" which could be part of a multi-time period series, like "Tales Of The Slayers," or "Slayers, Past, Present, and Future," with a rotating cast, several interlocking story lines that come together at the Season finale.

"Firefly: The Next Generation," (with whoever of the original cast is available and willing, and some fresh new faces)

Something totally new and original, in the order of Poul Anderson's "Operation Chaos," if anyone read that, about a universe just like our own, except for the fact that magic works and science is all tricks and chicanery. Not necessarily a copy of that, exactly, just something with that kind of twist.

Or maybe he could just do a Western.

Pretty much anything the guy comes up with will probably be good.

That would be a great idea and I would definitely support a Fray book
 
Pretty much everything Joss does is good. I want something new and fresh, preferably a new TV show. I think he could do like a short 10-13 episode series on a network that would allow more freedom. Like HBO, AMC or Netflix. I wasn't a big fan of Dr. Horrible, but a musical would be awesome.

I would like something like that, furthering the slayer mythology. I'm just not sure Joss is interested in going back to Buffy. Sadly.

I'll echo this, with the addition that he should stay away from anything to do with woods, cabins and horror.

A new cable TV series (not network) mixing drama and comedy like Buffy and Firefly did, but not connected to those shows

Writing for the Buffy comic, and maybe a new Fray miniseries

A Buffy charity special, where Joss writes and directs the original cast members in a one-off story, in character but not 100% serious
 
I vote for an extended directors cut 20th anniversary edition of btvs with lots of deleted scenes and extras added.
 
Though I don't see it happening, I'd like a new series in the Buffyverse. Starting off a few years in the future to match the age of the characters to their respective actors/actresses. Willow and Faith, both around 40, would be mandatory to be part of it. The rest would be a pleasant surprise, though if Angel and Spike, then only as humans. All makeup in the world couldn't make them to believable vampires again. The series is not centered around one character like "Buffy" but on several; and it's more global. The world is highly different as it is now in the comics. The comics can be further used to close the gap between the years.

Add some new characters (also some teens), an interesting plot, some surprising changes regarding lifestyle, relationships or the general situation which are explained in the comics and I'd be the first fan. 🙂
