What shows were you wrong about?

One show that I thought would be a "one and done" was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I watched from the beginning and found that the show was more intelligently written than anything else on TV at the time, so I continued watching, but if you were around just before it aired, I'm sure you had your apprehensions about how good a show it was going to be. The premise of a high school girl having the usual high school girl troubles plus having to fight monsters seemed silly or infantile at the time, but what we got was an excellent show with good writing, attractive characters and an absorbing plot line that made us continue to watch.

THIS is why i didn't start watching it until after Angel season one sucked me in and I wanted to know about these amazing characters. I just... could not imagine that something called Buffy would be any good. Or that it would make me come back to writing to the tune of more than 1.5 million words...

You were right not to expect much from Buffy. Making a TV show based on a movie doesn't have a very good track record, especially in the 1990s. Second, most of the WBs output was trash of varying quality. There's no reason to suspect that Buffy would be any different from Social Studies or Unhappily Ever After.

I was at a friends place and watched the History documentary show about English time from 1574 to 1600, but there was no mention of the English early weapon of mass destruction nor the English Spanish naval wars or the invasion of England by the Spanish.
My view of the History channel just got a lot worse.

And yes, I do have friends !

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ❤️❤️

I was so very wrong about it. I thought it was going to be hokey and extremely one dimensional. This show has so much depth and heart, and a realness about it that i just can't quite describe.

The character development is exceptional, and even had me invested in the storylines of multiple characters that I don't really care for. It has some genuinely hilarious moments and many deeply emotional moments as well.

There are so many twists and turns, and great action scenes throughout. By the time you get to S7 the show has morphed into something completely different than it started out as. It's just plain awesome!

It is definitely my most favorite show that i have ever watched. I think it is extremely underrated and gets way more critiscm than it actually deserves. I will gladly eat heaps of humble pie for the rest of my life about this show. I deserve it.

TVD and especially The Originals; like @Nix I thought it would be too young/teenager-y for me, but I fell in love with both shows, particularly The Originals and the way that show used the vampires and werewolves to explore family dynamics and loyalties.

Avatar the Last Airbender was a big surprise to me too, I resisted it for years because I thought it was anime, but when my husband finally convinced me to watch it, I completely fell in love and now it's one of my favourite shows.

Mad Men took me by surprise, because I thought the era its' set in would mean that the female characters wouldn't get enough attention or development but I was very wrong and ended up falling in love with the series.

My first foray into TVD's universe is Legacies; I have not yet decided if I want to see the other two series.
I didn't think I would like The X-Files, but after seeing one episode, I was hooked.

That was about me. I'd see the commercials showing guns (often showing EVERY gun scene and nothing else) so I passed as I wasn't into action cop shows. But then showed the first 2 eps I was hooked, at least for the first few seasons.
Lost, kinda better than I expected, I thought I would only like S1.

Far from the best show, too much nonsense (mysteries). But the first 3 seasons were addictive, I liked the main characters trying to get out vs the others plot of it. Destiny vs coincidence. I spent a good time as season 5 unfold. S6 & the finale sucked though.

I bought the DVD boxed set of The Good Witch which cost me quite a bit.
I was very disappointed as the whole bit about her revolved around how many blokes tried to get off with her, the content about her being a witch was minimal. It cost me $135 I was so fed up with it I gave it to an op shop (charity Shop), well I got my daughter to do it.

Sounds like those laurel k hamilton books, forget the name of the heroine. Anita something or other, let us have loads of badly written sex please. Ugh.

Actually, nothing like those. I mean, really, you would be hard pressed to find anything further away from the Anita Blake books (which I gave up on after the last book I read had the plot of a porno... and if you say pornos have no plot, that is exactly my point 😀). Good Witch is PG and the raciest thing you ever see is a kiss.

EDIT: I should add that Good Witch is from the Hallmark Channel, who are not exactly known for their racy stuff... 😀

I have to admit, I have never seen anyone in a film produced by the Hallmark stuff being in a marathon!

No, Good Witch is not remotely as dark as any of the Anita Blake books, and there is no sex. I enjoyed it, but it won't be to everyone's taste, and I enjoyed the earlier Anita Blake books before they went off the deep end.
