What temp do you turn the heat/cooling on?

I know I ask this every year, but I am trying to justify turning the new heater on at night ๐Ÿ˜†

Im thinking below 10C/50f is reasonable? I dont turn the air con on unless its close to 35C/95f and will probably need that next week as well!
 
Cooling? We have no cooling here! ๐Ÿ™‚

I don't put the heating on at night, though if it was getting down to that temperature I might. Not so much for warmth as that it could be because of sub-zero temperatures outside and my pipes might be at risk in the colder parts.
 
In the midst of the pandemic, my friend recommended I purchase one of those wearable hooded blankets. They go by a few names - best decision I've made. They're toasty warm and worth it, you don't need to have the heater on!

I love them ๐Ÿ™‚ I have two, a poodle and a bunny print ๐Ÿ˜€ both pink! Very good, I have been sleeping in them lately.

I definitely dont feel the cold like I feel the heat. So its hard to know whats a good range. Everyone who visit me says the house is very cold, a few said they have never been so cold in their life when they have slept over haha but I rekon the heat is far more dangerous.

We get this weird fog roll in at night, not every night but especially when its clear skies. I can never tell what the temp is inside of it because my gauge is up under the patio and the fog doesn't really get in there. It does leave a mark on the house where its been sitting and the wood floor in the bedroom is often wet from it. Thats why I liked the fireplace because it dried the floors out so well, but I have an electric heater instead of wood this year. Not sure yet how I should set it.

I think the temp you stated above is good. I mean, if it gets to the point where your teeth are chattering, or you're wearing several layers of clothing, then it's probably time to turn on the heater. ๐Ÿ˜‚
 
I think 50F is very restrained! I try to acclimate myself to 60F in the winter, though sometimes when it's damp, I want it warmer. I would only add that it's probably better to keep running your heat than turn it off if it's only for 2-3 hours or less, because it will run so long to get back up to the right temp again.
 
We keep our heating temperatures set from 67ยฐF to 71ยฐF because above that, the dog gets restless.

We keep our cooling temperatures around 74ยฐF because the air conditioner has trouble getting below that temperature without being on all the time.

Wow!!! Lucky You!!! ๐ŸŽ‰ Here in California energy is so expensive the heat does not come on till it is 64F or below and the AC until it is 79F or above.
 
Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ this has been helpful. I feel justified in putting the heater on now. Its a big unit so it does probably prefer to be running rather than being switched on and off.

The sun is hot enough for us in the day, its just at night, the temp drops by 10-20C and the fog rolls in, and I start coughing. Im having trouble keeping the weight on the old rabbit and poodle, so that made me think its already too cold to go without when the pets are shaking. I'm too fat to get the shakes, and I dont actually notice the cold on my skin at all. Just the cold air makes me cough.
