What The Buffy TV Show A Continuation Of The Movie?

I never saw the movie and I always thought that the show was a re-imagining of the film. But I read yesterday in an article that it was a continuation. Is this true?
 
i've not seen all of this film so don;t take my word for it....but I think it is a continuation! I'm sure the school in the film was Hemry!
 
The series is actually both. While continuing after Buffy destroyed her original high school, Hemery, it is also a re-imagining as the movie took place in Buffys senior year and both the vampire and slayer lore were very different from in the T.V. series. So they continued afterword, but sorta rewrote history a bit 😉
 
Yeah as Jacklyn said, its a mix. Heres a few examples. Buffy was 18 in the movie, 16 in the show. However it is mentioned she did burn down the school, like in the movie. Also a few people said they imagined Buffy to be taller, because Kristy whatsherface was taller then SMG.
 
The movie sucked... It was stupid... Should have put SMG in or something, maybe it would hve been MUCH better.

I heard that the movie sucked so bad that they HAD to change a lot of stuff for the TV show.
 
As I understand it the TV show is what Joss wanted the movie to be if he had had more control over the production. Apparently the studio enforced a lot of unwelcome changes.

Although SMG was 18 in 1996 when the show began production so she would of been 14 in 1992 when the film was in production. Ickle Buffy!

Also, Donald Sutherland was EXTREMELY difficult to work with. I saw an old interview with Joss about this subject. Apparently Donald wouldn't take direction, would constantly re-write his lines and refuse to read the ones in the script, and was just a general pain-in-the-ass on the set.

I heard that too. Joss Whedon called him a prick! Hehee.

I liked the flick. It's funny though, I don't know very many people who like both - just one or the other.
