Hiya,

Season 5 Angel, I am currently watching it.

Cordelia dies, right? In "Your Welcome"

Where's the funeral?

Where's the tears?

I understand she said goodbye and shiz but like.. huh?

Did Joss slip up?

Is that even possible?
 
Maybe they did have one, but dont show it. I mean Angel gets the call from the hospital to say she died.

Your right though, she was such a main character you'd think they would of made more of it.
 
I can only revcall one funeral on either "Buffy" or "Angel" during the entire run of both shows, and that was Joyce's. I don't know whether that was because the writers just didn't feel like devoting air time to it, or whether it had anything to do with Joss' outspoken athiesm, or if maybe they just thought that such a private moment shouldn't be made public.
 
it's true they didn't show a funeral for cordy, they didn't even show angel having to tell the others about cordy's death (at least i don't think). they just knew after that episode happened. to my memory, joyce's funeral was the only one to be shown on either show. i mean, they showed character's visiting graves a few times-- like jenny's & tara's. but they never showed the funerals. i just think they didn't really have the air time for it, because once you show one, the others are pretty much structured the same way, and the writers probably didn't want to have to do that everytime.

Heck, look at the regard they showed when Anya died. Like Cordy was going to get a funeral, lol. Trust me, I wish for one. I loved Cordy.

But there weren't anymore episodes in which they could've had a funeral when Anya died. :S

Dude, she's so hot. Haha.

Always, even when she was preggers.
 
A funeral!!! Wasn't it right after the episode was in the can that they got the word that the show was canceled?
Would have been a tad awkward to do a funeral show don't you think?

Anyway, in *nicer* terms I think he was trying to say that it would have been a bit wierd to have a funeral right before the series finale. But they could have done something, like go to a grave and then go fight the big fight or something. They could have incorporated her in it somehow! Maybe a spirit or some kind of talking salt shaker...I don't know but Cordy needed to be in that finale.

What a shame. *sigh*

The way I was saying funeral was just me saying that there at least should've been something.

It would've been strange but a bit more than just Angel mentioning her once or twice before the end.
 
In a way, I think they'd already been grieving over Cordy for a long time, considering she'd been in a coma with no brain function, pretty much dead already. Maybe they saw the last day they got with her as a gift, and handled her death better because of it?

You're Welcome made me realize just how much I'd missed Cordelia, and it is a marvelous episode.

That's exactly what I was thinking. They had already been dealing with her being gone for a long while, this was just the final good bye. For me though, the episode in itself is sort of enough, hm, and I don't think showing her funeral would really have done any difference.
 
I think faithful1's point is that after You're Welcome, they don't spend any time on grieving for Cordy. In Tara's case, fit pretty much hit the shan after she died, and they were too busy either looking for revenge or trying to stop certain wiccas from destroying the world.

The funeral was just; "why wasn't there anything?"
 
I definitely agree that there should have been more of a response to the loss of Cordelia. The episode itself was so powerful and after watching it I felt like they really dropped the ball on not following up with some kind of emotional response from the rest of the team.

Doyle, a character I liked but who only appeared on maybe half of a season, got more of a response from his death than Cordelia, who was a major player on four seasons of Angel and several more on Buffy.

Look at Fred, one of my favorite characters in the series. While her death was more of a plot point, it still had emotional repurcussions for the characters. In fact, wasn't it only in response to Fred's dying that we hear any kind of reference to Cordelia's death?
 
i think it has something to do with the memory wipe/alterations as to why Cordelia's death didn't seem to have such a huge impact on the whole team. I also believe that Angel takes Cordelia's death very hard and being somewhat challenged in the showing of emotions department, i think that Angel did what Angel does best - that is, bottle up his feelings. As for a funeral i'd reckon they would have had a small memorial service off screen but also because her death was mystical perhaps they were planning to bring back the character at a later date so didn't want to show the finality of a funeral.
 
I suppose without knowing to what extent the memory alterations had on the rest of the team, one could assume that maybe that had something to do with it.

I don't think a funeral itself would have been necessary to show, but maybe a comment or two by some of the other team members would have been appropriate.

I think this would also make sense as to why they didn't show a reaction to her death. They showed reaction to her entering a coma and dealing with that so maybe the writers felt that was enough.

And I agree about this episode making me realize how much I had missed Cordelia. After the way she was handled in season 4, I hardly missed her at the beginning of season 5. Then they brought her back so perfectly and ended her story in such a great way that I actually cared about the character again.

Your Welcome was the 100th episode of Angel, that is why Charisma came back for the show. It was shortly after they finished filming the episode that the CW canceled the series.
So the writers had limited time to put the series to bed. Maybe they did have a funeral episode in mind, maybe they did not.
Either way I think it would have been 'awkward' for the whole cast and crew to do a funeral show for Cordy after finding out their series was canceled.
