What the?

I don't think a funeral was necessary. Just some aknowledgement of her dying or being missed would have been enough. Cordelia was only mentioned three times after she died after being such an important part of the AI Team. Doyle and Fred were mourned a lot more than Cordy was. And I'm sure if there would have been a season 6 Wesley would be too.
 
I would have liked to see the other characters show the audience they knew that Cordy died by mentioning it or something!

Like a scene with Angel at his desk and him brooding and then Wes come in and say, "I miss her." and then Angel say, "Who?" (you know, pretending he doesn't know what Wes is talking about.) And then Wes say, "I miss Cordy, too, Angel. We all do. But she wouldn't have wanted us to grieve for her." And then have Angel change the topic. That would have given me some closure.

It seemed like they didn't really care that their best friend had died.

Just a kooky thought here but does anyone think that maybe the writers were told NOT to mention Cordy dieing in anymore shows by someone important?
To me this sorta gives credence to the 'supposed' tiff between Joss and Charisma.
Just a topic now discuss amongst yourselves, but please share...
 
I had no idea that there supposedly had a tiff. That might explain it. Where did you hear that they had a fight?

Cruise around the board and you will find it. I believe it started around season 4 when Charisma got pregnant.
 
OK, i'm reading the same thing over and over again so I've stopped before page 2.

1st - We don't need a funeral.
Fact is, we get 42 minutes of 'viewing' in any one week out of the lives. We can safely assume that should this be a real world, there week would not be 42 minutes. So to not get to see a funeral, its perfectly fine being that we know it will have taken place.

2nd - actually if you watch the next episode 'Why we Fight' and truly understand what is going on in Angels mind, he spends that entire episode mourning Cordelia. As for the rest, I expect they are grieving too, everyone lost a loved one. Fact is, after Cordelia dies, Angel can't spend too much time in mourning because he has just received a vision.
The others can't spend that much time either as after 'Why we Fight' ends we have Smile Time which has Wes and Fred understand that they love each other then we fall into the loss of Fred and the last few episodes are strongly building to the end.

I Love Cordelias ending and how she was remembered.
 
I believe that funeral would've just been too much, mixing in with what was going on in the series at the time. We had been thrown having to watch Angel take over W&H, dealing with Spike being back from the dead, and watch how the law firm was eating up all the characters in one way or another.

We had already dealt with and moved on that Cordelia was gone. She wasn't really mentioned too much in season five until her episode where she came back.

Getting that one last episode with her was the last hurrah. That's all. I'm sure in the storyline Angle and Co dealt with and mourned her death, but it just didn't fit in with the storyline that we as viewers were experiencing. Everything had moved on, and having an entire episode devoted to Cordelia's funeral and everything that comes attached to funerals just wouldn't have fit.

I was actually wondering this myself but it seems to go against the notion of bringing Cordelia (and thus Charisma) back for the 100th episode. If they really wanted to avoid mentioning her, it seems like it would have made more sense to leave her in a coma and not feature her in a milestone episode. Still, I get the feeling that it's somehow connected to issues between Joss and Charisma.

I don't think anyone's really saying that they should have taken a 10 minute chunk of an episode and shown a funeral or spent a whole episode mourning the loss of Cordelia, but it would have been nice if they had taken a few seconds to acknowledge the loss of their friend.

You got the entire next episode.
Its one of the darkest, most sombre episodes of the season.
Angel is deeply affected by Cordelias death and it is visible.

I urge everyone to watch Why we Fight again and then you will understand that the thing you are asking for is there.
Just because they don't say Cordelia doesn't mean they aren't conveying the fact they are distraught by her death.

At the end of the episode is when we find out she's dead though.

Like the very end.

He's distraught and I know that the next few episodes, it wouldn't have really fit in..

But they could've written them slightly differently to show that even Gunn has noticed Cordelia has died.

I don't think he even mentions it at all.
 
The thread's title is not clear enough, it forces people to click on it in order to see what it's about. I don't like that.
 
I recently watched the Angel season 5 episode, "A Whole in the World" and I noticed that Angel said to Spike (when they were flying the plane to meet up with that guy to try to save Fred), "I lost Cordy...I'm not going to lose Fred." Or something along those lines, but he did mention Cordy and it was after she died! (He also gave one of those sad, but serious, looks he always gives.)
 
Have we ever actually seen a funeral though, the grieving and mourning thing isnt really something present in the later seasons
