What unsettles you still about BTVS?

Yeah, but she's hot and she had sex with him. Best one minute and thirty seconds of his life. I mean, stupid, yes, but in all fairness, Xander is 19.

What happened to Self-Defense? If someone is trying to kill you or another, you are allowed to kill that person.

Octarus just tried to strangle Buffy and looked like he was about to curb stomp a full-powered Vampire. The coach had just used a pistol to force Buffy into a pool with 3 sea monsters who wanted to rape and eat her and knocked out Xander. The Zookeeper was trying to kill Willow and had knocked out Giles. Each of those deaths was justified. Each was Self-Defense.

I thought it was obvious that I was being sarcastic. Of course Buffy is allowed to defend herself from an assassin with deadly force and still be a 'good girl hero-type'.
I am amazed at the general nonchalance of the residents of Sunnydale. People are dying all over the place and no one seems to notice. One of the football players at Sunnydale High says, if we can limit these unexplained deaths, Sunnydale is going to rule. When Johnathan gives Buffy the Class Protector Award, he mentions the fact that Sunnydale is not like other schools due to the death toll, but no one seems to raise the alarm or do anything about it. Maybe it's the influence of the Mayor, but no one does anything about it.

Even the signpost that Spike keeps driving into in his Chrysler changed over the years from population 38,500 to 32,000 between seasons, some of this due to vampire kills and no doubt as we see when Buffy tries to take out a loan in Season 6, low property values would prevent people from moving to places with rising property values.

My assumption that the Hellmouth had a weirdness filter that stopped people from acting on things, or even remembering them in the long term. At the end of Gingerbread, Willow mentions her mother is doing the same selective memory thing as Joyce does; if the parents could really remember stuff, the fact that any parent would continue sending their child to Sunnydale High would count as child abuse. Younger minds may be more flexible and more able to remember, but everyone in the town would have to be being affected in some way. And if the alternative is dying, some would just say, okay, we'll eat the financial loss.
