At first I thought "Buffy killed a person", but when you think of it, he had super-strength, he didn't seem that human to me, but he didn't seem like a demon either... I don't know if this question was answered anywhere, so sorry if I sound ignorant 🙂

To the best of my knowledge, it wasn't ever mentioned within the story line, but think that Caleb was a normal human physically (also a psychopath, sociopath, sadist, and probably a Democrat) who had somehow struck a deal with the First Evil in order to become as powerful as he was, something similar to what I always imagined Hamilton to have done with the Senior Partners in Season 5 of "Angel." That seems to be something of a favorite plot device with Joss. Mayor Wilkins "got rid of his soul," at some point, probably to gain immortality. Caleb and Hamilton cut deals for physical power and, possibly, immortality, Eve probably cot her deal with the Senior Partners for immortality and possibly beauty and sensuality, Angel made his deal with Twilight in order to serve, he believed, the greater good, and Spike made a deal with the cave demon to return his soul if he could pass certain tests, and, of course, Aud, who became Anyanka, the vengeance demon..

Of course, very little of that is actually mentioned in canon, it's pure conjecture and imagination on my part, so accept or deny any or all of it, at your own choice.

Calling Caleb a Democrat is just uncalled for!

Caleb was such a Republican he might as well have had a red elephant tattooed on his forehead.
I think he's human, but so evil The First can merge with him.

To a lesser extent I think that's why The First was able to come out through Willow, she'd done evil things, but wouldn't have been evil enough to merge with.

and probably a Democrat

He seems very republican, what with the over zealous religious nature and oppression of basically everyone else, lol.

What do you mean come out through Willow? Do you mean when the locator spell backfired? As I always saw that as more to do with that particular spell, which was a silly spell anyway, how can you locate something that exists everywhere?

Caleb is human, but is uniquely evil and insane enough to handle merging with the First without being consumed/destroyed by it.
He seems to be a type of serial killer who is able to function in normal (ish) society, make plans for the First (and possibly bombs) and talk unpleasently about killing 'women folk' so that it makes my skin crawl.

I'm so glad Buffy cut him in half lengthways, too good to 'im I say. 🙂

Didn't Caleb say where he came from to the potential he gave a lift to?
Does it matter if he is democrat, republican or a founding member of the monster raving lunie party? No, wait, I already said republican didn't I
I'd be more interested in his initial religion.

About Buffy cutting him in half, if the First can re-animate the dead could it also have regenerated the dead, if so that's two Calebs isn't it?

I totally agree- except for the part about him being a Democrat. 😛

I felt like Caleb was a human that The First bestowed some power on. He didn't seem like he was a demon or anything like that.

We didn't have a lot of proof in this but I always thought he was part of the Evil elite. Like he made a deal with the First to do his bidding and be as strong as he was.
