Question what was happenin with the rest of the worlds evil?

Ok Buffy was the Vampire Slayer , the one and only (until S7) and she lived in Sunnydale where there was a hellmouth and fought evil!

So what about the rest of the world, what about demons in say Austrailia or Japan or even over here in the UK?

Ok Angel was in LA but what about the rest the US?

Are there other demon hunters about that are not slayers who just fight evil?

I mean the council probably had people around the world working for them right? (maybe I have just answered my own question!)

Well, I postulated elsewhere that as the permanent Guardian of the Hellmouth; evil-nasty-bitey things seemed to continually gravitate to Sunnydale for Buffy to smackdown rather than a slayer having to go find them.

I'm pretty sure there are people like Wood, Gunn's gang, rogue Wesley, Holtz and even Cain (spelling? the werewolf hunter from "Phases") all around the world, actively hunting the supernatural, though probably with considerably less success than a Slayer (and even more horrible survival rates...). Actually, that list is impressive enough to show that the concept of non-Slayer hunter is very canon already.

Let's face it, one girl per generation in a world chock full of the leftover baddies from the time where demons ruled the world? That's always been the weak point in the show's premise.

There has to be other 'hunters' out there. I do think the Council would have had demon hunters too, i mean, they've got to do something.
Even though SD had a hellmouth, Cleveland has one too, so i assume theres more scattered around the world. Must be loads of Vamp hunters out there. There may even be other Initiative type orginizations through out the planet.

I think that it's easy to forget that Buffy was a vampire slayer and technically that is all she might ever have been. Destiny had her end up as the guardian and ultimate destroyer of the Sunnydale Hellmouth but that was a fate specifically meant for Buffy, rather than for a vampire slayer as such.

With that in mind it's easier to imagine that a slayer is usually only a small player in the larger fight between good and evil. Buffy became a hell of a lot more than that but most slayers are born, get chosen, kill a few vamps and die. End of story because that is all the story the Shadow Men intended them for. Just pawns in the greater fight. Therefore why do we imagine that slayers are meant to be the first line of defense against evil in the world? Is it not more likely that they were meant to be just one force against demons rather than the only one?

I'd say that the Buffyverse is probably full of different heroes and champions of many different types, each doing their own bit in the greater fight. Slayers are just the ones we know best.

I always imagined their were Hunters out there. Kinda like the Winchesters on Supernatural. People who know what they're doing, know about the Supernatural, are fighting the good fight and get it done, but just don't have the advantage of Slayer powers. An experienced non-Slayer could do almost as much damage to the baddies of the Buffyverse, I'm sure.

I think that's pretty much how it has always worked in the Buffyverse.

That might answer the question of what the Potentials who are never Chosen wind up doing. They've had the training, some of them, like Kendra, for years. That's a large investment in time and money for the Council to throw away just because some girls pass the cut off age (whatever that really is) for being Slayer material. Knowing the Council, they would want a return on their investment. As has been pointed out, there were at least two teams of demon hunters, Gunn's and another mentioned once as being in Florida, so it would be a safe bet that there were others like them, at least in the major cities, and almost certainly independent "lone wolves" like Wood. Riley left Sunnydale to rejoin an Army unit in South America who apparently specialized in demon eradication. If the Army had such a unit, probably so did the Navy, Marines, and Air Force, not to mention more than a few special National Guard and police teams. That just covers the United States, and I'm sure that that would be the situation all over the world.
