In the episode "The Body" Buffy goes to tell Dawn that Joyce died. When she tells her, we can't really hear what they say because it cuts to a scene where the class is watching Dawn. This is what was said, which was cut due to...I dunno...not wanting to make people sad.

When the scene shifts to Dawn's art class watching her and Buffy in the hall, this is what's being said between the sisters according to the script:
BUFFY: "Mom died this morning. While we were both at school, she--"
DAWN: "No..."
BUFFY: "I don't know exactly what happened, but, she's dead..."
DAWN: "No. NO NO no no. you're lying. you're lying. she's fine. she's FINE and yo'u're lying. Oh no no. Please please no. You're lying. She's fine, she's fine."
BUFFY: "Dawnie..."
DAWN: "It's not true. It's not real. It's not real. oooohhhhh nooooooo....no....."

All of Dawn's lines didn't have periods. I guess she was supposed to be doing one of those really long things without taking a breath...

Also this thread really should be in the Season 5 section, considering the episode The Body Took place during Season 5.
 
Yeah I know. I just noticed that right now. LoL. Killerdwarf is on vacation so he'll move it when he gets back if one of the global mods don't by then.
 
Thread now moved to S5. It's sounds like you're likin' that Watchers' Guide Hero. I might have to go and get one myself...

I think the did a good job with the ep, how they made it with the class watching that part. Although it would have been really good too if they just had them talking. 😀
 
What would've been better is if you could hear them but you still see the class watching them through the window.

It was well sad anyway and by being so close hearing there conversation would of got us even more tied up inside I reckon so that is why they just had the class and us looking through the window, I think that worked really well!!!
 
Im glad you couldnt hear Buffy say 'dead'

I dunno why, but 'dead' seems so...inappropriate...like...as in the word...'dead' makes it sound like she didnt matter...I always say 'died' not much difference...but...Im weird, and ya'll know that, lol...

Thanks for the post. I prefer it the way the episode went down. The perspective from the class was so heart-breaking that the words weren't needed.
 
Well... one of the running theme of the arc was sort of about how difficult it was for Dawn to come to terms with it. Buffy was there, and saw, and called her Mother a Body. Dawn wasn't... so having Buffy offer Dawn the word "Dead" would have undermined that idea a little.

I think Joss mentions in the commentary how outstanding Michelle T's acting was in the scene, and I'd love to see how it was acted out, but yeah, I think it was far more effective to run with the Negative Space motif. The best horror is left to the imagination. And The Body, at it's core, is horrific.
 
What you do is turn up the tv loud, like realy loud.........i think it was just Dawn crying and saying "No!" because i did that by accident because i was cleaning my room and running the vacume cleaner and i wanted to listen to it while it was on and i stoped when that happend and i heard it

This is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in Buffy. I can't even watch this episode anymore. We were made to watch it in one of my classes at school a couple of years ago because we were dealing with death and grieving, and that is the only time I have ever seen it.
 
Yea I agree... Crazy emotional scene...

I just watched the commentaries on it the other day, and Joss mentioned the reason why he chose to keep the shot from inside the classroom. The next scene was up-close with Willow all teary (Amazing acting!), and he thought that it would be monotonous to keep using up-close reactions, and that it would down-play Willows reaction, which was by far, the biggest. She really can tug at the heartstrings 🙂
