What was the most heartbreaking moment in season 2?

Oh, I disagree entirely. Jenny's death was horrible. But the real tragedy was in the viewer's knowing that she's already dead. It was Giles' building hope, then gut-wrenching realisation that made it so heartbreaking. If we hadn't known, it would have been merely shocking - like, say, The Body (or, rather, the end of I Was Made to Love You). That doesn't make me sad. It's the character reactions that do it.

The phone call is also horrible for just these reasons.

This scene absolutely breaks my heart, and it's not because of Jenny's death (although that is heartbreaking obviously), but the way Tony plays it out. He looks so happy when he thinks Jenny is alive and there for him. Knowing the entire time that he is going to find her dead just completely breaks my heart. Just so unfair and unjust. It make me miserable thinking about it even now.

After rewatching When She Was Bad, I really feel for Buffy when she starts smashing The Master's skeleton.
To have all the fear being released and the level of emotion for her was definately a tear-jerker.
I felt so sorry for her.

I was so young in season 2...only ten...the show traumatized me y'all!

The scene (Surprise) where Buffy/Angel are walking to the docks and both Sarah and David are crying! Oh my....that was just awful. Who knew Angel could cry? Wow....

Of course in Passion when Willow & Buffy find out about Jenny. Willow's tears coupled with Buffy's defeat. It looked as though Buffy was about to throw up....and the way Joyce comes in to hold Willow...ooh, gives me chills just thinking about it.

But the scene that made me burst into tears and call one of my friends for council was watching as Buffy took in all the events of Becoming 1 & 2 after killing Angel and then "Full of Grace" started up....I was a wreck man...I don't think I've cried about a show since then....that was some emotional stuff.

Basically...I have deep empathy for tears and despair & longing. They send me into hysterics.

Near the top for me is in the ep when they fought The Judge and Willow saw Cordelia and Xander kissing - when she said "You'd rather be with someone you hate than with me". I wanted Xander and Willow to get together so bad - but that's another thread(s)

Jenny's death is heartbreaking for me, but oddly enough I Only Have Eyes For You was potentially the most heartbreaking episode. And that's something coming from someone who's not a Bangel fan. When Buffy and Angel act the whole thing out, especially the post-shooting part, I can't help from crying my eyes out.

I'm a sucker for when Buffy stabbed Angel, but also the moment right after, where she watches her friends from a distance. And it wasn't just that she killed the monster who killed goldfish and Jenny Calender (the most shocking moment of season 2 for me), she literally killed the man she loved. And she couldn't tell her friends, because all they'd see was that the monster was finally gone. To be 17 and feel so unbelievably alone in the world that you would have to distance yourself further?

Buffy killing Angel was really sad. But more so when she was walking when that song was on at the end, and when she was on the bus leaving Sunnydale. Because it felt like one big adventure and at the end she just bailed.

Willow sliding down the wall in Passion was real sad though. Humm think imma watch Season 2 now. lol

(Does anyone know the name of that song in Becoming at the end? I always though it Sarah Mclachlan :S)

For me, there are a few "heartbreaking" moments.

First would be when Angelus laid out all the roses for Giles as sort of a path to Jenny's dead body. When Giles got there and saw her dead on his bed, and just his expression, had me tearing up.

The other would probably be when Buffy stabbed Angelus. It was obviously the most painful kill she'd ever done, and for her to vanquish her lover...I can't even imagine.

i would have to say the most heartbreaking moment of this season is a tough one so i will name two. first one is the exact moment in Passions after Giles goes to the factory after Angel kills Jenny and right outside when he pushes Buffy away and says "This wasn't your fight" and she hits him and then hugs him while crying...........i'm getting choked up thinking about it. And she says "are you trying to get yourself killed, I can't do this without you" i think i wept like a 6 year old in k-mart not getting a toy.

second is right at the end of becoming pt 2 where buffy has to kill angel, but specifically when she tells him to close his eyes and then kisses him, right then was just, many tear out my still beating heart and tap dance on it because that's how i felt

There are 4 bits of season two that are truely heartbreaking

1. Basically the entire episode of Passion, it's absolutely masterfully done, a personal favourite of season 2....Jenny's body lying and waiting for Giles, to Buffy confronting Giles saying she couldn't do it without him..

2. Angelus being a complete jerk about the night when Buffy and him slept together and Buffy not realising that he's changed.

3. Buffy telling angel to close his eyes and sending him to hell only to have to leave town and be completely alone.

4. When Willow finds out that Xander has been seeing Cordelia,
"Willow, it doesn't mean anything"
"No, it just means you'd rather be with someone you hate then be with me"

Those are my top four lol, couldn't just chose one sorry 😀

Again, Jenny's death. She was Probably my favorite character at that time
The worst was difenetly seing Giles reaction though

The episode Passion and I only have eyes for you
When Angel kisses Buffy in Innocence and pushes her away
When Buffy kills Angel. Not for Buffy, but for Angel. When he couldn't remember anything and she killed him
Buffy and Giles standing by Jenny's grave
Buffy and Giles crying ("I can't do this without you.")
And when Angel says something to Buffy, I can't remember exactly: "You have to learn a lot about men." ????

And I'm not even a Bangel ;P

Episode "Passion"... it's so sad, i cry every time. Great moment in episode is also when Buffy hit Giles and then she hug him and says: "I can't do this without you", or something like that.

And episode "Becoming 2". My all time favourite. It was so sad when Buffy was leaving, and song "Full of grace" in back... wow 🙁
