What was the official reason for cancellation?

Obviously I'm assuming ratings had something to do with it but from what I understand the ratings weren't terrible and from watching some clips on You Tube it seems like they were even decent some weeks. It's a shame they couldn't have struck a deal with another network to air a sixth season.

As far as I remember it was halfway through season 5, Joss started asking the guy in charge of if they would get another season, and the rateings for season 4 weren't great, but season 5 was doing better, but the guy said no there wouldn't be another season.
Joss wanted to know so he could wrap up the season or finnish it as planned. Then they finnished people were mad, rateings where actually ok for season 5 and the guy was fired (Don't think theres a connection there, but it's amuseing!)

Thats off the top of my head but I think thats what happened?

It was pretty much the way BEG describes, but if you'd like the play by play details...

HERE's a link to an old thread where we got into it with links and quotes around the time it was actually happening.

Thanks for the link. I figured it had to be more than just a ratings issue. Still, it's unfortunate that Angel could have gone on for at least another season and would have in fact probably helped the WB had they not cancelled it. I guess it's those kinds of decisions that help explain why the WB no longer exists.
