What was the saddest part of The Body?

First scene when Joyce is pale and lying there, and Buffy whimpers "Mommy..." I teared up...and again when Anya broke down inside Willows apartment. That was definately a gut-wrenching episode. I think I had a lump in my throat through the entire thing.
 
I have to go with Willow's reaction. I know it's been said before and i totally agree, when Alyson Hannigan cries no matter what it's in (Buffy, HIMYM, rip off etc.) i always cry with her. She's like the only actress who makes me cry with her! She's just absolutely amazing!
 
When Buffy says: "Mommy" 🙁 And Anya's part: "But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's, there's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore! It's stupid! It's mortal and stupid! And, and Xander's crying and not talking, and, and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well Joyce will never have any more fruit punch, ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why." That was very sad too
And ofcourse Willow's clothing problem

the saddest part...?
the part that truly made me shed tears is anya's speech. the whole scene anya's this little kid asking questions and willow kind of snaps at her (understandably) but anya just doesn't get it. thinking about anya in this episode makes me cry...i just feel for her. emma did a great job...you see in her eyes that she's lost, that her world has changed...it must be hard for her as well cause she's been responsible for death before, but this was the first time she had to actually feel the effect of death. it's very touching. anya became my favorite character after this...as i feel that her actions in this episode really showed her true character beyond the comic relief and snide remarks. like...there is a reason she is this way.
ha, now that i think of it anya's kind of like stewie from family guy.

the whole scene in the dorm room was beautiful. i think one of the most understated moments is xander and willow's interaction. i love these two, always have, and seeing them so close was really special. tara's reaction to xander embracing willow was also very touching. the whole dorm scene was awesome...i had my hand on my heart while willow was searching frantically for her shirt and upset about her clothing style. classic willow. and xander wanting to blame someone and find out whose responsible was also classic xander.

i felt that tara was very motherly in this episode. like when she's sititng with buffy...smg has such a small figure and amber is more of a full woman....she just seems more motherly throughout the entire episode but during that moment i really connected her to a mom. in this episode, she's taking care of everyone and also the more experienced.

buffy's scenes were really special.
i wasn't to into dawn during this episode. she was still very annoying to me.
but smg did a beautiful job throughout. she's a master.

the silence in the episode made everything seem bigger (also the camera angles) like everyone just felt so small throughout this entire episode. i felt that the empty space around "the body" that the kids were drawing was very appropriate and added another dimension to the show. the empty space. the silence. (and also resembles amber benson's motherly figure)

of course, i love this episode. in the top 10 for sure.
 
all of it. I cried hysterically through the whole episode. I mean, you nkow how you cry a few tears when you see a sad movie and then you sob when something sad happens to you personally? well. During this ep, I sobbed
 
This is probably the first episode (chronilogically) I didn't stop crying in.

The death.
The silence.
The innocence of Buffy.
The reaction of Dawn.

Everything.
 
I think it's sad when Anya breaks down over the whole humanity thing in the apartment and when Xander puts his fist in the wall.
 
When Buffy says "mommy". It tore me apart. And of course Anya's speach.
Also, after Buffy finds her, the whole Chirstmas scene...and then bam. It's Joyce again. I found that to be brilliant but awfully sad.
 
Always the Body is more of a shock to me. But the bit where Buffy notes that they aren't to touch the body really gets me going. If it's anything though I feel Forever to be sadder.

Agreed - Anya breaking up was the saddest. Because she is always so disconnected from human emotions up to that point in the series, and then she just is overwhelmed. Very heartbreaking. 🙂
 
I didn't find Anya's speech sad at all. Well it was sad, but it wasnt exactly as bad as the part where Willow cries.
 
For me the entire episode was sad. But there where sertain parts that were just....bad as in sad. Here are those parts.

-The part where Buffy says "Mommy?"

-Buffy: She's cold.
911 Operator: The body's cold?
Buffy: No, my mom! Sh-should I make her warm?


-Buffy:We're not supposed to move the body!


-the tara comforting willow scene

-anyas speech in willows and taras dorm

-for some reason Anya saying that she wished Joyce hadnt died to buffy and gives her reason why always gets to me

-Dawn asking where her mom went when buffy tells her its only their mothers body.
 
I am watching The Body right now...and as soon as Buffy said to Giles "We're not supposed to move the body!" and then realizes what she had just said...admitting to it....
I just burst into tears. I mean, crying like a little baby.
The shot of Joyce lying on the floor....it's so horribly sad.
I hope I never find my mother's body. It would destroy me.

They first part I actually start feeling sad is when Buffy tells Dawn and Dawn breaks down about it. However, the tears start flowing when Willow is in a fit about how "Joyce liked the blue one". And then comes Anya's speech and it becomes waterworks with me. It really gets me how she doesn't understand but that's just the thing - when it comes to death, no one's really sure. Anya pointing out certain things just makes it that much sadder.
 
I just watched The Body for the first time last night. Wow. Most depressing Buffy episode so far, and probably one of the most depressing television show episodes, period.

I started tearing up when Buffy said "They said we can't touch the body!" and ran at Giles. Then when Buffy told Dawn at school. Then again when Willow was freaking about the blue sweater, and finally Anya's "speech."
 
I thought the scene with dawn in school braking down in tears was really heart-breaking in the sense of making the watcher also want to brake down and cry. There are multiple aspects of this scene i found were realy effective. One of these things about it was the fact that your seeing it from a different perspective your watching it through the glass in the classroom and there is this dead silence that only the death of a loved one can bring,and even with no sound of dawns tears and shouts you still got the exact feeling you feel when you hear those sort of crys of despair, and to me that makes them ten times louder and more dramatic.

Another thing that i thought was really sad was the lead up of events in dawns life before her moms death. She was so upset about a petty argument with a girl in her class and this sort of argument brings alot of things into perspective for me, even if it was just for the few seconds that this scene was on for

There are loads of other scenes in the body that have a similar effect but just the fact that this scene stuck with me for so long i think that in its self has some form of value
 
Whole episode was sad 🙁

But I think the saddest part was when Anya start crying, and maybe when Buffy comes to Dawn's school.
 
The scene that Buffy thought they had scooby dinner ant Summers's and then she drops the dish and *poof*---> Joyce's dead face. It was terribly shocked and sad.
