What was the saddest part of The Body?

More like what wasn't the saddest scene?

I'd say:

Buffy's daydream/Not touch the body.

Anya's speech.

Dawn being told at school.
 
There are many sad momments in the episode, but there is one moment where I could literaly feel Buffy's pain. Buffy walks into the living room and it quickly zooms into Joyce, and then into Buffy. It was almost as if Buffy had forgotten she was there, and seeing her lying there gives her the same shcok that she had the first time.
 
Wow . . . so . . . I'm reading this thread and I totally almost burst into tears a couple of times. Sitting here at my desk at work. I was about to be like *sobs* . . . Those darn hormones.

The worst for me was Willow trying to pick out her sweater and obsessing about not finding the right one, because that's something I would do. My mom cried from the "Mommy?" on. For the whole rest of the episode. Never stopped.

You know, I read somewhere or heard in the commentary or something that Aly is allergic to plaster dust. So when Xander punched that wall she had an allergic reaction. So some of the shots are done in different lighting to hide the fact that she was swelling from it. I <i>think</i> it was in the commentary.

At any rate. I'm sad now. 🙁 It's ok, I'll go find a nice fanfic! 🙂
 
Anya's speech, definitely. I cry like a blubbering baby every time.

And when Buffy goes "Mommy?", when Willow is freaking out about her clothes, when Buffy tells Dawn.

Such a sad but brilliantly acted episode.
 
deffinetely one of the saddest episodes ever.
its so sad, she just stares at her mums body, like she's left reality.

its so sad when she tells dawn ;(

All of it. Buffy finding Joyce. Buffy calling 911. Buffy trying to do CPR on her dead mother and cracking her ribs. It's gut wrenching. I cried my little heart out. All I could think about during this episode is what would I do if that was my mother? I would be going out of my mind just like Buffy was. She was so distraught that she couldn't even grieve. It was physically impossible for her to show any emotion. She thought that once they removed the tumor from her mothers head that she was going to be fine. Thats what she was told by the doctors. Come to find out she had a blood clot due to the surgery.

I think this is one of the saddest Buffy episodes ever done. We all came to know and love Joyce Summers as if she was our own mother and then she was taken from us just like she was taken from Buffy and Dawn.

Anya's Speech

Definitely Anya's speech, because it was the culmination of the previously "sad moments" and verbalized what many of the other characters were feeling. It pretty much summarized the saddest part about death, especially that of a younger person, including all of the "Why?" moments. This was an excellent episode of Buffy, and one of the best. The acting was terrific, the writing was top-notch and the lack of music was a brilliant idea on Joss's part. The characters are at their most vulnerable here, and it's not surprising. Joyce's death was one death they couldn't prevent, because it wasn't caused by magic or monsters. Therefore, it's all the more terrifying and all the more sad.
 
Anya's speech. So powerful and so true. I love the speech and yet it makes me cry everytime. Emma just does it so well. Also one of my favorite speeches of the entire series. Willow trying to figure out what sweater to wear is a close second, but Anya's speech wins cause it is just so real to me.

Everyone says Anya's speech, and while I find that really sad and innocent, what I find to be truly heart wrenching is when Buffy tells Dawn. The silence, and seeing Dawn fall the the ground sobbing from a spectator's perspective...that scene is very underrated.
 
What I love and find so moving about Anya's speech is that she finally starts get it here. When Anya first started to be more human she was always messing things up. Whether it was describing somthing that she did to one of the men got vengence upon to Xander(so funny), or not getting how to talk to customers in the magic box, she just didn't quite get what it was to be human until this moment.

In one little speech she describes what a lot of people feel like when they lose someone they love. It is so beautiful and made me remember why I love Anya. Without even realizing it, she understood what the rest of the gang was going through and was going through it with them. This was the first time that her humanity really showed and that was just so beautiful. Makes me cry everytime.

just finished watching The Body...


Anya's speech was heartbreaking, as was this entire episode.

The entire cast was T0P NOTCH, not one weak link in the group.

There are so many amazing and sad moments....where to start? It is a completely mystifying, compelling, realistic time of despair. The power of having no sound was amazing.The moments when they showed each character with complete silence were really powerful. I've never seen anything like it.

It was so hypnotizing, like it brought you into Buffy's bubble, when she opens the door and hears the sounds outside, the chimes, the dog barking, kids playing. How are you supposed to act when you find out your mothers dead? I could say it might be like Buffy's.

The time I cried the most was when she told Dawn at school. It was heartbreaking. The way she was happy right before, the beautiful picture she drew. No one deserves to be told there mother is dead.

Tara was beautiful. She knew how it all felt.... and she was the strongest. It was great that she was the one that really comforted Buffy... because they finally had something in common.

Anya finally really felt what it was like to be human. She made me like the character of Anya more. Good acting job too.

Overall, a damn fine piece of television. Right up there on the top of the list.
 
Anya's speech of course. That really goes without saying.

Also, when it's like "oh la la la everything is fine" and then, BAM, shot of the body. =/ Really sad bit.

I think Anya's speech is beyond heart wrenching and Emma did a fabulous job. She had me bawling! I think SMG did a wonderful job in this episode as well. Conveying, sadness, a state of shock, and hopelessness! She is a great actress, although a lot of people pummel her on IMDB.com! I totally disagree with them!

For me one of the MOST gut wrenching parts is the following exchange!

DAWN: Is she cold?
BUFFY: It's not her ... it's not her ... she's gone.
DAWN: Where'd she go?

While many people believe in the after life and some may claim they have seen it. None of us truly know what is beyond the door until we get there. And I have found myself asking the same question Dawn did. I believe in the after world, but I don't begin to know what it will be like!
 
One of the parts that gets to me the most that isn't typically mentioned too often is when Giles comes over and rushes to Joyce and Buffy yells after him, "We're not supposed to move the body!" and instantly brings her hand to cover her mouth from the shock of hearing herself say those words out loud, and then Giles goes to her and embraces her. I lose it, I couldn't imagine myself in that position, but she makes me feel everything she's feeling.

For me the saddest part of this episode was when everyone was in Willow and Tara's dorm room and Willow was looking for her top and she had the whole break down of her not having any grown up clothes and wanting teh top joyce liked. I think it was just seeing her in tears etc just really made me cry.
